Happy Halloween. I will try to concentrate on chat while bags of candy sit next to me at my house. But it's playoff time. Pairings are set. Don't forget City League championship also is Saturday. I just turned on the "Open" sign. So the store is ready for business. Fire away with any questions.

Will there be any non-playoff Week 10 games this year, or are those deader than disco?
Mike White
10:58
Not that I know of.

I'm impressed with the seeding the WPIAL came up with.  It was really hard to argue with anything they did in my opinion...anything questionable in your mind Mike?  Does anybody have a "beef" with their seeding?
Mike White
11:01
I think they did a very solid job. Just my feelings, but I'm not a big fan of playing a conference team in your first game. There are a few of them again, including two in 4A. I know WPIAL said they seeded teams and let things fall where they may. But it would've been so easy to have New Castle playing TJ, and Trinity playing Montour. And you could've easily put Freeport against Quaker and Derry against Seton. Just my opinion. But overall, good job.

With the pairings set in 2A do you see any easier bracket?
Mike White
11:02
Probably not. Not exactly a plethora of quality teams in this class. Definitely the worst classification as far as depth of good teams.

Impressive game by South Fayette's Noah Place on tv last week.  He was all over the field on offense and defense.  I see he is committed to Delaware - do you think he might get any looks from bigger schools?
Mike White
11:03
No.

11:03
sorry Mike, do you honestly see Trinity pulling an upset over TJ with their only threat being Koroly and a banged up quarterback?
Mike White
11:04
No way. Joe Koroly underrated and has had a terrific season and career. Really good two sport athlete. But I'd be surprised if they stay within three touchdowns of TJ. TJ is my pick to win 4A.

Mike, you were on the NA field after the PR-NA game conducting player and coach interviews. I noticed 22 The Point, Chris Harlan of the Trib and various players and camera crew were still all on the field.  When the NA band rushed on the field. If there was to be a grand Senior night that was allegedly ruined by PR why did you and the others stay on the field? I can answer that for you, (and this is not anything negative toward you or anyone else on the field). There simply was no announcement, no notice of a concert on the field post game. This concocted story being pushed by NA fans and administration is a clear case of sour grapes. If Pine Richland is so disrespectful why did the starters only play the first half of 7 of their games? They could have hung 100 points easily, but the starters wore hats on the sidelines and cheered the next generation of PR Football. Don't let this this case of sour grapes, have historical WPIAL implications. What are your thoughts.
Mike White
11:05
So sour grapes can have  historical implications? Wow. You lost me there.

How are 6A semi-final sites determined? Does it depend on the 4 remaining schools proximity to each other?
Mike White
11:06
No rhyme or reason really. Whatever might be a suitable site to hold enough fans and hopefully somewhere in between.
Wike Mhite
11:06
5A certainly has the deepest field.  Which class do you think is second deepest...1A? 4A?
Mike White
11:08
Agree 5A is the best. Next best might be 1A, but only through the top six teams. What happened on the final weekend with Clairton, Jeannette and Imani made things mighty interesting. This OLSH team intrigues me. They might be pretty good. I think California is legit. I think they might be the most intriguing team of the tournament in any class.

If disciplinary action is taken, yes one of the best WPIAL teams at lease of this generation may be handicapped.
Mike White
11:09
Have no idea about any disciplinary action.

How far do you think Charleroi can advance in 2A?
Mike White
11:12
It wouldn't surprise me if they got to the semifinals. It also wouldn't surprise me if they lost in the quarters to Riverside. Riverside is pretty good. Then again, Charleroi pretty good also. I just wonder about Charleroi a little. The one really good team they played (Washington), they were beaten soundly.

What game do you think will be televised by AT&T?
Mike White
11:12
It is North Allegheny at Mt. Lebanon. And that has been confirmed. And it will be live.
Wike Mhite
11:12
Glad to see Beaver get in this year with the wildcard.  Not to rehash ancient history but still frustrating that they sat at home last year when they potentially could've won states!
Mike White
11:14
Without a doubt. Class 3A system needs fixed. Look at this year, Shady Side is pretty good and they are sitting at home. So is Central Valley. Yet in 2A and 1A you have 3-7 teams going. PIAA realigns every two years. This is the year they realign. In talking with WPIAL czar Tim O'Malley, WPIAL will take a hard look at playoff system for next year. Wanting four games at Heinz Field on one day is part of the problem.

So you see any team making it to the state championship game?  The high classifications have a gauntlet and I can only see 1A having a legit chance at winning a championship.
Mike White
11:16
Definitely. I think 6A champ has excellent chance at getting there. Will be tough for 5A to get there and really, really hard for 4A because of Erie Prep. I think 3A, 2A and 1A have pretty good chances.
Wike Mhite
11:19
Is Clairton jeannette's kryptonite??  I really thought they were the top team in 1A and against anybody else that appears to be the case.  Now a semifinal rematch looms (if they both get that far). I was just shocked at the manner in which they were beaten...
Mike White
11:20
I agree. But I think Clairton has been waiting to get some things together and I think they thought they might near the end of the season. That game changed whole Class A picture.

If you had to pick one upset for Friday’s games, who would it be?
Mike White
11:21
An "upsetting" question. Could Mohawk give East Allegheny problems?
Wike Mhite
11:22
Not that I want to start a private/public debate but...6A, 5A, 4A, 1A all have monster private schools looming that likely will present a huge challenge to the WPIAL champ once we get out of the local bracket.  Let's continue to celebrate D7 championships because it is truly something to be proud of!  Love a local group of boys growing up together and winning a championship!
Mike White
11:24
Sorry, but besides Erie Prep there is no "monster private" school that will play WPIAL champs in weswtern side of bracket. That wouldn't be until the finals. Bishop Guilfoyle is three time defending champ, but they play through the eastern side of the bracket. In 6A, WPIAL wouldn't see St. Joe's Prep until finals.  In 5A, Archbishop Wood is a top team but WPIAL wouldn't see them until finals.

New Castle will be run through Montour and upset South Fayette again should one the first game
Mike White
11:25
Yes a New Castle victory over Montour will not be surprising. But is that really much of an upset? They are seeded 4 and 5.

11:26
funny how they put SF on the other side of the bracket I wanted us to play them prior to the championship game
Mike White
11:26
OK, "Us."

11:26
What's your take on the New Castle now
Mike White
11:27
My take is they are playing very well right now. Moving Marcus Hooker to QB was a good move. Wouldn't surprise me if they beat Montour, but I think it will be close.
Steve
11:27
Thoughts on all classifications taking 8 teams, and also, rotating champ games in and out of Heinz field?  So you would play there for 4 years, then you're at Robert Morris for 2?
