Good morning. Forget the chit chat. Why don't we go right to the questions.
Travis Scott
10:57
I see that Ronnie Stevenson caught a touchdown, with him in the line up that could be dangerous with Montour other weapons they have could be a good stretch for Montour
Mike White
10:59
They're 4-1 and have been ranked in top five in 4A all season.  They've always been one of the top teams, with or without Stevenson. Honestly, I don't know much time he has missed.

Will you concede this week that in 6A its PR a wide gap then the rest of the field. That win over Central wasn't even close, they didn't need trick plays or a precision passing game. They just gave them an old fashioned but kicking in the trenches and on the ground.  Props to Jordan Crawford, he alone put up 42 points on #2 Central, most Teams can't do that. What do you think of that break out performance?
Mike White
11:01
I've never said Pine-Richland isn't way above everyone else. I've said that at some point this season, they will get challenged. Doesn't mean I think they're going to lose. Just means I think they will get challenged. They were challenged a little by Penn Hills. I mean, it was 14-6 in the third quarter. But I don't need to "concede" they are above everyone. Never said that.

Who is your pick to win Single A this year? Are they still playing the Championship Game at Robert Morris?
Mike White
11:03
Yes games are at Robert Morris. 1A and 2A. Looking like Jeannette might be the best team right now. I still think Clairton will be reckoned with, although they might not be close to Aliquippa this week. Imani showed something beating Clairton, without five players. I've said Clairton is good this year, not great. California is the intriguing one. Tri-County South has been much maligned. Often a lot of tomato cans in that conference, at least when it comes to playoffs. But Cal beat Imani. They need to be watched.

P-R dismantled PCC. Granted, PCC is down a little this year, but that game wasn't close after the first 2 plays. I think maybe NA will test them a little, but I think they could mercy rule every team until at least the State Semi's. But here's the question - best HS offense you have ever seen?
Mike White
11:07
That's hard to say. You have to take every team on their own level because people will get into this stuff saying no way a Double-A offense could be as good as 6-A. But taking it on their own level, I might have to say Jeannette team with Terrelle Pryor and Jordan Hall in 2007. I mean, they did set a state record for points, averaging 53 points a game. That's a little hard to do, no matter the level. And now Pryor is an NFL receiver. TD catch last night.

During last week's chat, there was some discussion of New Castle (and I may have contended they would lost many games down the stretch).  I gotta admit I was wrong; impressive win for them last week against Mars.  Big game for this week hosting South Fayette.
Mike White
11:07
Good of you to admit your mistakes, Wike Mhite

On to Penn Hills - they are 5-1 but haven't beat anyone, but are getting some love at the state level. I asked this last week,  but they still have NA and PCC. Question is do you think they have the organization and discipline to hang with the big boys? I see more of a chance versus PCC than NA.
Mike White
11:09
What do you mean organization and discipline. Why do you use those labels.? I'm not getting into that. As far as them as a team, they have some talent. They're decent. They will play with NA and Central. Might even beat one of them.

Very surprised at the Imani win over Claritin - especially with all the suspended players.  I know the "Imani transfers" issue has been discussed a lot but ignoring any feelings about that they still have a lot of new players coming together each year.  If they peak at the right time heading into the playoffs they could really make some noise!
Mike White
11:10
Yes.

Finally, NA - seems like they are rounding into form a little with a nice win over Lebo. After seeing PCC, NA's loss to them and win over Lebo doesn't really make sense. What is improving? Defense? Offense? Everything? Or did Lebo have a bad game?
Mike White
11:11
I wasn't there against Lebo so I don't know. Offense seems to be clicking, though. QB seems to be doing better. And even Joey Porter Jr. got in on the scoring act last week.

The offense for PR is awesome, however what makes this team a state title contender is the defense.  The defense is so much better than in the past several years.  The starting defense has given up only a few TDs.  None to Penn Hills, 1 to Bethel, none to PCC
Mike White
11:13
Yes, defense is underrated. Must have a genius coaching the defense this year.

Assuming you agree that parents reclassifying their kids is an epidemic - when will the PIAA crack down on the age limit. Some of these kids look like they've been voting for years.
Mike White
11:14
What do you mean PIAA crack down on the age limit??? There is an age limit. You can't be 19 before July 1 of your senior year. So there is a rule. Doesn't mean there aren't people using phony birth certificates. But PIAA can't police that.
Wike Mhite
11:14
Can we petition iPhone to stop autocorrecting Clairton to Claritin? Mike do you have that power??
Mike White
11:15
Sure I just left Tyler Boyd a voice mail.
11:19
Freshmen football is almost non existent any more in WPIAL. And I don't think anyone is real concerned that Central's ninth grade team is 1-3.
Tyler Boyd
11:19
Got your voicemail Mike - I'll get my people working on that!  Hope the family is well, let's hang out soon.
Mike White
11:19
Sorry you're a Bengal, Tyler.
11:23
Ahhh, sorry I really don't think so, unless it's unusual. If someone is a 17-year-old freshman, then yes that is worth noting in a story. But they wouldn't be eligible as a freshman anyway. And you're crazy if you think the PIAA can start checking birth certificates. Please. That's the school's responsibility if there is an age problem. What, do you think every athlete in every sport, from 7th grade on up should send their official birth certificate in the mail to the PIAA. PIAA examines them and mails them all back. Sure.

Any big games in 2A this Friday?
Mike White

Burgettstown at Beth-Center. Both teams undefeated.

North Catholic seems to be a bit of surprise this year.   Not sure anyone expected much with all of the transfers out and a new coach.  Was it maybe addition by subtraction?
Mike White
11:26
Well, they are 4-2. Some players did transfer out, the Steeler exodus, if you will. But I think some decent players remained, obviously. I will say some people out there are not exactly upset that some certain people are no longer there.

Is there anything that can be done to reboot Shaler's football program?  Or does anyone know really what the problem is?  Its really kind of sad at this point.  Do you think the district can offer Jack McCurry some kind of incentive to lay down a solid foundation?
Mike White
11:29
Oh stop it. You're killing me. Why in the world would Jack McCurry want to step into that situation? It is something, though, how down that program is. And it is something how they fell so far, so fast. I mean it wasn't that long ago that they had J.P. Holtz and Co. and they beat James Conner and McDowell. But now? Yikes. Too bad their enrollment doesn't drop enough to put them in 5-A.
11:31
Honestly, probably Quaker Valley. Quakers are legit. I'm not saying they will beat Aliquippa, but maybe they can play some with them. I still think the story of Aliquippa's team might be its lines. Very big for a small school. And good. And I'll tell you one other thing. Aliquippa has a lot of kids back next year and will be good again.. It just never ends. But what will happen when the silver haired fox goes? Mike Zmijanac. I think he stays through next year.

Have you heard anything about 6A teams from the Eastern part of the state?  Is anyone going to challenge St. Joe's Prep on that side?
Mike White
11:33
Just going by scores, St. Joes' awfully impressive. Parkland, from Allentown area, is good again. And this Downingtown East team intrigues me. Someone from District 1 usually is very good. Many times, it's North Penn. But it would be extremely surprising if St. Joe's didn't make to Hershey. And heck, it might be surprising if Pine-Richland doesn't make it, although State College has been impressive.

Have you seen Robert Kennedy play?
Mike White
11:37
Nope.

11:38
Don't you agree that most reclassifications are done purely with athletic intent? A superstar freshman that repeated the 5th and/or 8th grade ain't really your typical freshman. And since you mentioned fake birth certificates, how big of a problem do you think this is? is it fair, in either a public or private setting that these kids are taking spots from kids that are playing it straight?
Mike White
11:39
I don't think birth certificates are a problem. We all know the biggest problem: Transfers.
