I saw CBSSports national rankings for high school teams this season and Imhotep Charter is #5 and Neumann Gorretti  is #14. Yikes. Given these two win their respective championships most years would the proposed PIAA “success” amendment eventually land these two in 6A?
Mike White
11:01
What PIAA is proposing is a new competitive balance rule that takes transfers out of the equation. It would be solely based on success, but over two years. Teams would have to earn 6 success points in two years. If Imhotep and Neumann-Goretti go far in PIAA playoffs the next two years, yes they would be bumped up a class, reagardless if they have transfers or not.

Why is 5A the only classification that plays its semifinals at neutral sites (higher seeds play at home in other classifications, with a few notable exceptions like Mapletown in 1A)? USC at Bethel Park would have been epic -- and much easier for fans of both teams.
Mike White
11:04
You are not quite correct. Yes, 5A is playing the semifinals at neutral sites. That was set before the season. 6A is playing semifinals at home sites. That was also set before the season because there are only 5 teams and 4 make the playoffs. WPIAL has give semifinal teams home games past few years in 6A. Remember, they don't have quarterfinals. The other four classes this week are in quarterfinals. WPIAL had said higher-seeded team would be at home in quarterfinals. But WPIAL moved three 1A games to neutral sites because they play on grass and WPIAL wanted games on turf. I wrote a story on this Sunday. Coaches not happy. But maybe it's not bad idea after all. Supposed to get lots of rain Friday.

Hello Mr. White.  Looking forward to  the PCC at Lebo matchup.  PCC after some coaching shuffling looks to be playing good ball as of late.  Lebo finally has some key players back from injuries, who started on last year’s history making team.  Palko and Co seem to be peaking heading into the tourney.  Should be a good one.  How do you see it playing out?
Mike White
11:05
I think they are both peaking. Mt. Lebanon is finally scoring points. Central has been better lately also. I think the game is a tossup. I don't think either team necessarily is very strong, but I don't think 6A has a real powerhouse this year. I think I like Central.

Mike, I assume everyone on Rochester Road is shaking hands and saying what a wonderful season North Hills had by making the playoffs having a "moral victory" in their first round game.  Reality is 3-wins is the lowest total in many years, but is somehow distorted with a playoff appearance.  Will reality ever sit in at North Hills?
Mike White
11:05
And what the heck is reality?

Game of the week for each class 6-1
Mike White
11:07
Some games are equal in some of the classes.
11:09
But I'd say, 6A - Central at Lebo. 5A - USC and Bethel. 4A - McKeesport at Armstrong and LHighlands at Central Valley. 3A - Freeport at West Mifflin. 2A - Neshannock and Washington. 1A - South SIde and Mapletown and Clairton and Bishop Canevin.

Can you give a summarized version of what happened with Butler and their district 10 situation?
Mike White
11:12
Butler withdrew from WPIAL few years ago for football only, played an independent schedule and joined District 10 for football. Played in District 10 playoffs. WPIAL didn't think it was right for a team to withdraw from league in only sport and play in playoffs in another district, with a chance to qualify for state playoffs. WPIAL barred Butler from District 10 playoffs. Butler took the case to court and won two court cases the past two weeks, which allowed Butler to play McDowell for District 10 championship. As expected, Butler got crushed, 62-7.

Gcc takes a luge loss to Rochester should Rochester been that low of a seed ??
Mike White
11:13
No, they are better than a 14 seed. But the way things shook out, you could see how WPIAL put them there. They were the fourth place team from their conference.

Pine Richland girls volleyball and boys soccer champs.  Football a chance.  Has that happened before for another school?  Not that I know of.  Great accomplishment of it happens.
Mike White
11:14
Have no idea if it's ever happened. Have to check. And they had a cross country runner win a state title. Not a bad weekend.

Ray, just a comment and not a question. The Steelers defense has been terrible.  Brian Flores should be not be commenting or concerned about what other teams are doing in their management and more concerned why the Steelers are struggling.

Who you calling Ray? I think you're chat confused.

How do you see the rest of the 2A bracket shaping out ? Is there anyone you feel has a strong chance to stop Steel Valley from winning it all?
