Do you think Sto-Rox can win 2A States this year? I know they lost to steel valley in the beginning of the year but recently I feel like theyre the team to beat. Thoughts?

No, no chance. They should stop playing now and forfeit this week. C'mon, man. Of course they have a chance. Sto-Rox is good. They've proven it. But there are other good teams in 2A, too. Good news is that Southern Columbia isn't a lock.

Looked beatable? Bethel WAS almost beaten. I saw the first meeting between USC and Bethel. Bethel was just more physical and owned line of scrimmage. USC has to be more physical.

Mike, the reality at North Hills is Pat Carey has not won a playoff game in almost 10 years as a head coach.  Even Tomlin has more wins in that span

There are a lot of coaches in WPIAL who haven't won a playoff game in 10 years. I agree, you'd think maybe they would've won one just one year. But it's not like they stink every year. They just tied for a conference title a year ago.

Hi Mike. Do you know the methodology used to determine neutral sites?  In between the two schools?  Closer to the higher seed?  Parking and capacity?  Etc.  Sometimes they are logical and sometimes they make no sense. Thanks!!!

No, I can't give you a rhyme or reason. As you said, sometimes they make perfect sense. Other times, you scratch your head. There are factors they have to consider. Sometimes, school stadiums aren't available for whatever reason. Some schools don't want to host games. My thing is. You're in the playoffs. Live with it, no matter where it is.

USC made a change at QB a few weeks ago. Made Ethan Hellmann the starter. That kid needs to hold the mayo (woooo hooooo). He was the starter against Gateway. They brought Julian Dahlem in for the winning drive. Expect to see them both this week against Bethel Park

Why does WPIAL select certain neutral sites over others ? Why do some facilities never host games ? USC has a nice fancy upgraded facility with a nice looking press box and field that they poured a ton of money into yet its not being used. What gives ?

I can't tell you about every school. I don't know the situations. But remember, USC is playing Friday. You think maybe USC doesn't want to host a game when they're playing?

Penn Hills definitely No. 1 in 5A. Others who might be ranked, but don't know what order: Gateway, Mars, North Hills, Shaler, Fox Chapel (even though they lost a lot). In 4A, I'd say Lincoln Park No. 1. Or maybe Laurel Highlands, although one of their big three (Brandon Davis) left for a prep school. Then there's Highlands, Hampton, North Catholic. Also will be interesting to see Avonworth and South Allegheny, who move up from 3A.

First, about coaching positions. I don't know any large schools yet, except Norwin. And that place has been down for a while. Will Terry Totten come back at Central? That's a big question.

Mike what gives? Pine Richland a #2 seed vs #6 Woodland Hills and the game is at Gateway? Why does the Wpial give the lower seed a game closer to home then the higher seed?

I can't really give you a good reason. What's in between? Not really anything that could be used. Fox Chapel, maybe? North Hills? Yes, Gateway does seem a little strange. But again, you don't know what's available.

Nope. Never been there, but I have heard it's really nice. I liked the charm of Hershey, just because it was Hershey. But honestly, the stadium is a dump now. You should see the locker rooms. Well they're not even locker rooms. They're a couple tiny rooms with benches. Horrible. I think monsters live there in the offseason. Stands are old. Press box isn't all that big. I wish there was a college stadium in the middle part of the state that held maybe 10,000, although you rarely need more than 5,000 for a state final these days.

All four hearings are today. Look for story later today. I really don't know what they'll rule. Bishop Canevin was the only one who challenged a transfer. They challenged R.J. Sledge. But all the transfers have caused a lot of smoke around this program. Counting the four this year, that makes seven that I know of in two years. The three last year were had pretty big roles on team. At least a few this year also will if they are eligible. WPIAL might have a lot of questions to answer, depending on rulings. Problem is, it's hard for WPIAL to get proof that kids transferred for athletics or that they were recruited.

Well Jayden Davis is back for boys basketball. Averaged a ton of points for a freshman. A few others back. Girls hoops lost all of their starters, I think.
