Any more news about who is moving up and down in classifications for football and basketball? I know Montour will be back to 5A in basketball.

No. Have to wait until PIAA releases classes and enrollments for all schools. Probably will be mid to late December or January.

Mike where do you see Aliquippa playing next football season? Single A where their enrollment dictates? 3A where they started playing when we hit 6 classes? 4A where they are now? 5A? The PAC or PSAC??

I'm not going to get into all of the competitive formula points. Would take too long. But this is fact: Under that formula, Aliquippa will still be in 4A next year because they have already accumulated enough success points that they have to stay in 4A. They will not move to 5A because, according to coach, they do not have the minimum three transfers the past two years, which would've possibly made them move up.

Have you heard anything from regular fans about the NFHS Network taking over playoff broadcasts from the WPIAL. I know your media counterpart at the Trib used to handle that before, but it seems like many playoff games aren't even offered through that service. I guess the WPIAL doesn't care as long as they got the most money out of the situation.

The Trib deal was up with the WPIAL and the WPIAL decided to go with NFHS. WPIAL said it was better for them. NFHS will not stream anywhere near the same amount of games as Trib. And NFHS owns the streaming rights. So, you won't be able to stream as many games - and you have to pay a subscription fee to watch NFHS games. I think it's 9.99 a month?

You have previously mentioned that Moon was the team to watch in 5A. With the Johnson transfer, is there anyone who you see able to compete with them?

For sure, yes. Moon would've been good, with or without Johnson. But certainly not unbeatable.

Any chance the WPIAL will evaluate the decision to go to a paid streaming service for playoff games? I paid for the service and the production is pretty decent but that much better from the streaming options we had last year...

They won't evaluate until deal is up. And that's at least a few years. I know people don't like that they can't watch all these games for free. But hey, you don't get free things forever.

If you had to suggest one game to go to Friday night, just to watch a couple of elite athletes what game would you suggest? I haven't seen Sieg in person, but it sounds like he is worth going to play.

Alston is a great DB too. Please how many wrs have like 240 yds receiving with 5 yds. It’s athlete of the week not of the year or a couple weeks. Alston stats blow Kubans away and Alston did it against the almighty fighting Cherpaks

Saw your comment about 4A Basketball...never count a Mike Mastroianni coached team out. QV isn't elite like they were a few years ago, but they will compete in every game.

I've seen several questions asking about which freshman will have an impact this season. You always seem hesitant to answer. Why is it so rare for freshman boys to excel at the varsity level when it seems much for common for freshman girls?

Disagree somewhat. Numerous freshman boys have made impacts over the years. It's just that none come to my mind right away. And unless the kid is the next LaVar Arrington, I'd rather wait until a freshman actually does something before we rave and give him or her pub.

Mike, the story from West Mifflin is one of the strangest/wild stories I can ever remember seeing in high school athletics. That school board member should be immediately removed from his post. Your thoughts on what is sure to be a story that is not over?

I watched a Single A game on NFHS Network this Friday (what a terrible service by the way. They stink. Never again.) Anyway, I can't get over what football coaches are allowed to get away with in dealing with officials as opposed to basketball coaches. One of the coaches in the game I watched was out to midfield most of the game asking for explanations. If a basketball coach did that, theyd be tossed! Double standard!
