Don't count on it. Westinghouse would have to beat Farrell and then another game next week to play the WPIAL champ. But no way I see them beating Farrell. Allderdice would have to beat McDowell to play WPIAL 6A champ. No way I see that happening, either.

Lots of talk about the Steelers' tie this week.  Personally, I feel like if a regular season HS football game ends in a tie, that should be it....no Overtimes, nobody gets a win, nobody gets a loss.  I understand the need for an overtime process in the playoffs, but would actually like to see ties come back during the regular season.  Agree or disagree here?

Surprised? Yes. Shocked? No. I've said all along this wasn't one of Clairton's best teams. But I must admit, I didn't know if OLSH had enough to beat them. Speaking of Clairton, did anyone watch American Rust on Showtime? Great series. And Clairton's stadium was in the show several times for the football shots.

Seems like a lot of people are predicting a blowout in the TJ BVA rematch of what might have been the game of the year.  What are the odds that the Jags can keep it close? Hard to bet against Cherpak.

Ahhhh, Brashear didn't beat McDowell. McDowell beat Brashear by 38-14. CAN Allderdice beat McDowell? Of course, they CAN. Will they? I seriously doubt it.

Mike, any thoughts on Elizabeth Forward pulling off biggest upset in state on Friday night? Central Valley didn’t look too hot last Friday night vs East Allegheny until adjustments were made at half. EF isn’t EA, is going to look to avenge last years lost and is returning numerous starters. Never say never! What are your thoughts?

Just wondering ? Since an enrollment question was asked earlier. Does West Mifflin and East Allegheny have to count their Duquesne students in their PIAA enrollment numbers or are they not counted since this may have been a court ordered merger.

They have to count whatever students go to their school, no matter where they're from. And this was not a merger. Duquesne closed.

Strongly disagree. Those programs may have died if they stayed in WPIAL. WPIAL has enough teams. Losing a few doesn't matter.

What’s stopping schools from reporting smaller enrollment numbers in order to drop a class in football or basketball?

Hopefully honesty and integrity. But sometimes people forget about those two things. I mean, really, what should you think about a superintendent or principal who intentionally lies about enrollment figures? But does it happen? Probably. I just wish the PIAA had a way to cross check schools info. Maybe there is.

i believe Westinghouse has a better chance than most believe they do. They have the better quaterback and their athletes can match Farrells. Ive watched the majority of their games and they will be ready. They defeated a very good Windber team in comeback fashion. Windber diddnt give it away Westinghouse took it ( Windber zero turnovers. Westinghouse 2) My question about Farrell is have they played any good teams? I know folks get caught up in Westinghouse plays in the city league so they are marginal at best but as long as they arent commiting penalties they have a legitimite chance to win.

It would not surprise me to see Westinghouse keep it close. But I think Farrell still wins.

I have already written a few stories using numbers I was able to track down. All of the classifications for all schools will come out in a few weeks. We will have it.

we all know that the PIAA will be the last to adopt a shot clock. Old school thinking permeates PA in a lot of things.  Rant over.

I hope you're wrong, but you may be right. Seems like the PIAA brass doesn't want shot clock. One of the reasons they say is cost to the schools. I understand that somewhat. But it's a one-time cost and you can get a decent system for 2,000 to 3,000 dollars. Of course, someone has to run it every game. But c'mon. Other states already do it. Why can't we?

It was not a meeting called by me. They put it together and I was invited to attend. They were some current coaches and two retired coaches. Story will be out in a day or two.

Seems like hoops season is short.  Games start mid-Dec, end mid -Feb.  Any chance PIAA or WPIAL allows teams to play more games?  These kids are on the AAU circuit and can play more games in two weekends then in an entire WPIAL season!
