Hey, why not get started a little early. Four WPIAL football championships Friday. NA and Pine play in PIAA quarters Friday, and Westinghouse plays Saturday. And hoops starts next Friday!!!! What a great time.

Hi Mike, last time around, Pine whipped Erie Prep. And now Pine has been rolling through the wips and Erie has been off for 3 weeks. You see the same thing coming. ? I think they are gonna repeat.

That was COVID year of 2020. That was not a great Erie Prep team. I think this one is pretty good. I think it's a good game.

Simply ketchup. And preferrably grilled - and not those big gigantic ones. Although I try to stay away from hot dogs. Only couple times a year. I see enough hot dogs covering sports.

Stop big plays from Quinton Martin and others. Play mistake free and play some ball control. Avonworth is pretty good. Belle Vernon definite favorite, but don't sleep on Avonworth.

I was a little surprised at that. I didn't see him as a Power 5 prospect. I don't know if more will come or not.

And Mike, how can you fix the time off that the kids from Erie had. ? Seems crazy to go 3 weeks without a game and no matter how good those coaches are, it’s such an advantage for the Pine kids.

You can't fix it. District 6 Hollidaysburg and I believe City League Brashear could have been in sub-regional, but decided against it. You have to give those districts a chance if they want to play. With six classes, I don't see this changing. And I don't blame those teams. Hollidaysburg was 2-8. Brashear was 0-8. Do you really want to practice for another week or so, just to get pummeled?

Best of all six championships, just because of their history, what they've done against each other in recent years and the talent on both sides. One of most anticipated championships in few years.

Class 5A has proven to be not too great. Missed playoffs two of three years. But they'll still have players. They can certainly be competitive again.

Beaver falls dominated sto and steel struggled but pulled away I know you said steel early in playoffs does this change your opinion now. Especially because steel and sto had a close game. Let me know your opinion

I still like Steel Valley, but I don't think anyone expected Beaver Falls to win like they did. Beaver Falls is good. So is Steel Valley. Could be a good one.

All but 1 semifinal game this past weekend was decided by double digits...and most games were blowouts. I don't remember this being a trend in previous years. Why do you think this was so prevalent happened this year?

It's been said for years that 6A watered things down. This is an example. But it's not like this all the time. Look at last year. Some semifinal scorers were 28-17, 14-9, 27-21 in 2 OT, 21-7, 7-0, 21-8 and 13-12. That's not bad.

I think you'd have to say NA, just because of State College's lack of success most years against WPIAL teams in state playoffs. But this State College team might be better than others. Undefeated. NA better be careful.

Bishop Canevin is really good. Somehow have to try and stop big plays. That will be tough. Canevin has so many playmakers. Union will need some luck, too. Kim Niedbala has done wonderful job in his first year at Union, getting team to finals for first time since 1973. Would be a pretty big upset if they beat Canevin.

I think I'll take Canevin, Steel Valley, Belle Vernon and I can't decide on Quips and CV. CV can win, but tough to bet against Quips.

Six classes is here to stay. I hate it in football. Five teams in 6A is awful. Yes, it has watered things down considerably. But I keep saying this. The positive is that it has given some teams a chance to be more competitive. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so.

There are so many tentacles to state football. Yes, I'd like to see changes. I wish there was a true east and west bracket. But there's not. There are so many different things that different people want. For example, district championships are so important to some, like the WPIAL. But not so important to others. Unequal number of teams on each side of state in some classes. All makes for some difficult things. For some states, district championships really don't even exist or mean much.

Hard to say off top of my head. In no order, I'd probably go Central Catholic, Penn Hills, Lincoln Park, Imani Christian and someone else.
