Yes, coverage will be affected. We lost manpower. Can only do so much with what we have. We plan to have a preview in Sunday paper and some things next week also. As for 5A, I think Penn Hills is definitely No. 1 going into season.

If Aliquippa wins states again, will piaa attempt to move them up in class again ?
Mike White
11:33
It's on two year basis. They would have to win WPIAL, go far in state playoffs this year, and go far again next year.

Mike, did you like the feel of the wpial championship games played at Norwin?  Heinz is great , but the crowd seems more engaged in a hs stadium. We should have them all at Martorelli.  Amazing venue. When you pull the running track, the stadium feel is much better.
Mike White
11:34
It was OK. But it wasn't even packed house for either game. Definitely lose some feel there. I like the games at Heinz. But there are things that prevent having all six games there. So have to deal with what we can. Yes, I like Martorelli better than Norwin, only because of closeness of stands, and it sits in that valley. But Norwin is a good place. I also think NA should be considered.
Fix this

USC Class of 89. Back in my day we actually WON championships. Getting tired of being in the title game and being humiliated. Girls Basketball, Baseball, Football. This is getting old. Changes need to be made across the board. 2nd place is not acceptable. Not in this district. Sorry Coach Junk is a great guy but he will never lead them to a championship like Coach Render did. This season was an absolute failure
Mike White
11:36
You're on here every week, complaining about Junko and USC aren't you? What's with you? Guy takes them to championship and you rip him. You know most schools would love to get to championships in as many sports as USC did. Let me get Amazon truck to get a box of tissues out to your place for all the crying.
Ponder this
11:36
So if your team makes the championship game and loses is that a successful season ? The point of sports is to win championships and if you lose in the title game I don't consider that a good season. Thoughts ?
Mike White
11:40
Totally disagree. Depends who you are. I think Aliquippa or Thomas Jefferson, yes it's championship or bust. You're going to tell me that teams like McKeesport, Bethel Park, Laurel Highlands, Armstrong, Shady Side and even Mapletown didn't have successful seasons, just because they didn't win championship. So you're telling me that of the 117 teams in WPIAL football, 111 won't have a successful season. Wow. Hello, Mr. Negative.
PAPETE

Every week I read how certain schools recruit yet no examples or reports by Trib or PG. Why is this?
Mike White
11:41
It's a charge that many say. But like the WPIAL, do we have any proof? Sure, I think schools recruit, especially one current one. But it's really hard to prove.

Shot clock in PA for 24-25 season. Yes or PIAA leadership is too old and crusty?
Mike White
11:41
Hard to say. I would hope, but I have my doubts. Lot of schools don't want it, either, because they complain about costs and finding people to run it.
Crash and burn
11:42
I supposed now that USC's talent is all graduating they will crash and be bottom feeder ala Moon and Mt Lebanon. So much talent wasted
Mike White
11:42
Great insight. Please, please give me more.

whats more likely NA to beat St Joes or Pine to beat Imhotep
Mike White
11:43
That's a tough one. I think they are both the same. In other words, unlikely. But I'll probably say NA.
Hoops junkie
11:44
Hey mike can you give me your thoughts on 4a hoops? LH vs Lincoln park could determine wpial champion?? And other good teams respectfully??
Mike White
11:46
I would put Lincoln and Laurel Highlands top two heading into season. Losing Brandon Davis to prep school hurt LH. Other top teams would be Highlands, North Catholic and watch for Hampton. Transfer Peter Kramer will be big help. He's good. Avonworth will also be interesting. They were in 3A final last year and move up. Some players back.

I watched a Southern Columbia game early in the season and announcers were commenting they had several key players out with injuries. Last Friday they trounced undefeated Mt Carmel who had beaten them during regular season. Maybe the champ ain’t done yet?
Mike White
11:46
Agree, Southern Columbia is still alive. But I still don't think they are as good as past couple years.

Is the PIAA giving other teams  home games at this juncture of the playoffs because it’s so early or is this unique to the Bulldogs? Not used to seeing this as a WPIAL fan.
Mike White
11:47
It's happened past few years. This didn't just start this year.
SingleA
11:47
Just the typical underdog story in Single A. Lowly Bishop Canevin did not have a program a few years ago, and now they are a power house! How did that happen?!? What a story!!!
Mike White
11:48
If you're hinting at something going on fishy there? Maybe. But again, does anyone have any proof?
Concession Stand Man
11:48
Who has the best concession stand burgers?  What one or two items would you add to a stand that you never see?  Any, you would get rid of?  (And I agree the pickle juice ruins the bun)
Mike White
11:49
Instead of Chic-fil-A sandwiches, Ruth's Chris steaks.

In anticipation of the FAB22 can you shed some light on your formula for your selection criteria : performance/production, all conference selection, college offers, college prospect level (height/weight)
Mike White
11:53
That's all considered. But I will tell you that college offers is not the determining factor. Many times over the years, we haven't selected kids with big offers. Why? Because we check with a lot of coaches and might believe others had better years. Or are just better "players" right now at college level. Much of recruiting is based off "potential," not necessarily how you "play." There are some players with big offers who we did not choose this year. There are players who aren't Division I prospects that we DID choose because they had great years. It's not easy. Have to consider many things. And this year, of the 9 or 10 final players who made it, there are 9 or 10 others who could have just as easily made it.
Why ?
11:53
Have you always been a condescending jerk or did you become one ? By the way Trib Live does a better job than you do
Mike White
11:54
Oh, I'm so hurt. And good, go to the Trib's chats and don't come back here.
Hoops
11:54
When do the hoops previews come out ?
Mike White
11:54
Basketball Sunday.

Are west teams in state championship always the away team?
Mike White
11:54
No.

Who’s most likely to repeat in boys basketball
Mike White
11:56
Some have changed classes. But I'll say OLSH in 2A.
PT WARRIOR

reflecting back on tough season , can you think of any football team that had to play 3 WPIAL champions and 3 more that made semis ? They may have had the hardest schedule. Onto to Basketball ? I here they have some up in coming players in the Junior and sophomore classes
Mike White
11:58
Really tough schedule for Penn-Trafford. I agree. As for basketball, I'm not sure about their junior and sophomore classes.

Is Kenny 'The Horse' Mrazik the fumbler? Is he on strike for more hay or Carrotts? Is that why we haven't seen the fumbler lately?
