There have been one or two cases of an 8th grader being ruled ineligible, but it's uncommon.

Have you ever seen a classification change the way 4A boys did? Completely different from the last few years.
Mike White
11:51
Actually Hsfan, there are so many class changes in boys and girls. But you're right. 4A boys changed a lot. Two time defending state champ Lincoln Park to 5A. Uniontown to 5A. Montour to 5A. Deer Lakes moved up from 3A. South Allegheny moved down to 3A. 4A certainly looks different.

Can you do me a favor and make a Scoop Smith mixtape?
Mike White
11:53
If you saw his big-play stats this year, it's ridiculous. TDs averaged almost 50 yards. I'd like a mix tape of his interviews, too. Really like talking to him and interviewing him.
Rules question
11:53
What is the HS football rule on force out. If a player makes a catch and is pushed out of bounds while in the air its out of bounds correct. He has to get a foot down correct ?
Mike White
11:54
They can be forced out. And yes, they only need one foot down inbounds.

C'mon, you are doing Coach Wade's bidding for him.  I was impressed that he didn't cry about holding like he did against Guilfoyle years back.    Then it was the private school excuse. This year he stuck with injuries, which in fairness, were substantial.  Clairton had the better team. Ft. Cherry coached and played the perfect game...limited mistakes and kept it a  one possession game late.    I should note that i was impressed with Clairton given how young they were.  They will be back...and back again. That said, i can't imagine anybody will tough Guilfoyle. They have one close loss to Cambria Heights...whose in the 3A state semis.   We all saw Green's Westinghouse take 2A Southern Columbia to the brink the past 2 years.  Blowing them out speaks volumes.

Yes I had no idea Clairton QB Thompson was hurt as much as he was. Clairton will certainly be back. Lots of players back. Clairton and Fort Cherry have to be top two ranked teams again for next year.

Thoughts on Franklin Regional Basketball?
Mike White
11:56
I think they lost all five starters, didn't they?
Rules question
11:56
So is it a catch if they are are forced out. I know thats a dumb question
Mike White
11:56
No catch.

I was a little frustrated that PR's offense didn't put Peters away Saturday night with getting a 3 score lead.   I thought they were a little sloppy on the offensive side.  I felt they were playing with fire if PT's got the passing game going like they had at times in the first half I guess i need to give Peters their due.  I also thought they'd lose to USC in the semis.     On the flip side, PR defense was that good. They gave up some small ball qb draws, but they took the passing game away in the second half...1) with great coverage albeit a bit "handsy" at times 2) by putting consistent pressure on DiLuccia, the db's didn't have to cover for long.    How do you have with PR vs McDevitt?  I realize McDevitt has Saunders, but that wasn't enough for them last season. I think you could also argue that the secondary is the strength of PR's defense...or even team.

McDevitt game should be really interesting. As for P-R and Peters, I thought DiLucia played pretty well. But man, did he get beat up by Pine-Richland. Pine is so physical on defense. They have those two big 300 pound tackles. Not a ton of size at LB and DB, but those kids swarm and are as tough as a $5 steak. I think I'd pick Pine over McDevitt.

Central Catholic running game is coming alive.  5 false start, tho?  They need to do a lot better than that.    I'm also not seeing a precision passing game, but Gompers on the deep route strikes again.    Return game is also excellent.  How do you think they'll do against Harrisburg?...or should i say, the end of the line cuz it aint likely happening against St. Joe's for either team.  I saw Harrisburg early in the season beat State College 7-6.

Harrisburg is good, but certainly not unbeatable. And hey, Central is a Catholic school, but Harrisburg has the Messiah on its side. Seriously, leading rusher is Messiah Mickens. One of best juniors in state. And offensive lineman Kevin Brown (Penn State recruit) is rated No. 1 junior player in the state by Rivals. I'm going with Central, though. Oh, and you're right. Central running game with Faulkner has really come on. He has so many more yards last half of season compared to first half.

OK, see y'all. I'm off to create something for lunch.
