Not many. But you have to realize that St. Joes' has had multiple really good teams. This wasn't the first. The one with Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrison ... how good do you think they were? What I'm saying is that this is nothing new.

I saw your tweet about Johnson leaving Moon.  Do you know where he transferred to?  I can't imagine the WPIAL or PIAA would grant him eligibility if he tried to transfer to a private school in the area.  Thoughts?
Mike White
11:32
Couple Moon players told me they think he went back to Pinncale High in Arizona. He's not going to anywhere in WPIAL.

Hi Mike.  It seems that the only hope (albeit a small hope) for creating a separate league for private schools would be to change the head of the PIAA as well as some/all of the board members.  How is that membership determined?  In other words, who has the power to make those changes?  Thanks.
Mike White
11:33
People run for director and board of directors hire. Board of directors would have to remove directors - and that ain't happening.
Junko is junk
11:33
So mt Lebanon football team wins state title two years ago.  Perennial loser peters makes it to state final, a team that never beat usc once until junko showed up.  This is not right usc football owned these schools forever, why does junko get so much respect?  Even that punter at Pitt stinks but he keeps his job

Sound the alarm. The USC hater is back!!!!!!

What are your thoughts on the up Mt. Lebanon boys hoops this year?
Mike White
11:34
Off to a good start. Just looking at scores and stats they sent in, they seem to really be shooting ball well. Lots of 3's. Especially from Girod and Sheely.

Be honest do you think southern Columbia bends the rules in anyway?  7 titles in a row and being at least a state finalist regularly since the tourney began 30 some years ago seems a bit sus
Mike White
11:38
I have no idea. You know, teams must submit rosters to PIAA every year. Teams that get enough success points, the PIAA compares rosters to see who is new. Southern Columbia says they haven't had enough transfers. Remember this rule has been in effect for maybe 6 years? So before then, who knows. I do think there is no doubt that people move there for football. But I think they do it before 9th grade. And let's be serious for a second. It's not like they are producing a ton of Power Five guys every year. They use an old-fashioned wing-T offense. And they just do everything well. I mean, there are teams that are successful every year around the state. Nobody questions them much. Plus, it's easier to do what Southern does at a smaller class than bigger class.

Impressive win for Penn Township last night. Possible sleeper team to keep a eye on. That section looks tough
Mike White
11:39
Peters Township boys hoops obviously. I wouldn't call them a sleeper team. C'mon. They were in WPIAL championship last year and I think we have them ranked No. 2 in Class 5A this year. Hardly a sleeper.

Watched most of the 5A and 6A state title games. Those Philly teams are stacked, tough for PT and NA to keep pace (let alone any team in the state). Maybe a more competitive game would be PT vs NA...who you think would win that match up?
Mike White
11:39
Good game, but I'd take NA.

What quips team is better this years or last year?  I think Dallas was a bit of a bad team for finalist don’t you?
Mike White
11:41
Dallas beating Bishop McDevitt was one of biggest shockers of season. I couldn't believe that. No way this Dallas team was as good as last year's McDevitt team. It would be hard to pick which Aliquippa team was better.

Why do people talk about st joes having kids everywhere when NA has kids frm
Mike White
11:42
Yes, kids certainly move into NA. But Boyd kid came in 8th grade. Alualu has been in NA for a while. No doubt NA has kids move into that district. But also a lot of NA kids grow up playing in NA.

Mike did you ever watch Scoop Smith in basketball ? he might be better in basketball. Was very impressive last night in the loss to PT
Mike White
11:42
Never seen him in basketball.

How are transfers tracked? Is it up to the schools to be honest, or do the districts monitor it? It’s easy for high profile transfers, but others would be difficult to track.
Mike White
11:44
Any student-athlete transfer and the school must fill out paper work that is sent to WPIAL. Hundreds of transfers are ruled on every year. What people don't realize is that very few are ruled ineligible. Or very few are brought in for a hearing. It's up to the WPIAL if they want to have a hearing, based on paperwork and maybe some information.

Why don't Allderdice and Central Catholic play each other in basketball anymore?  It was always a great cross town rivalry!
Mike White
11:44
No idea. But with Devin Crummie being at Allderdice and what happend with the way Central got rid of his Dad after all those years, do you really blame the two schools for not wanting to play? At least from Allderdice end.

11:45
Mike who wins tonight game Mars or knock Go Planets 🏀🏀🪐🪐
Mike White
11:46
One of the best games of the night. Very interesting. Knoch an up and coming team. Group of good sophomores. Heck, Knoch has a 7-foot sophomore. I really don't know who I'd pick in game. But I think Mars' Ryan Ceh is one of the more underrated kids in WPIAL.
Coach Choni
11:46
Do you see Allderdice being able to compete with Roman Catholic/Archbishop Wood?
Mike White
11:47
I see Allderdice being able to compete with Joker and the Nuggets this season. Or at least compete against T.J. McConnell and the Pacers. Allderdice is really that good. Probably five future NBA players will start for Allderdice.

I have not seen Terek Crosby of Yough play. Impressive stats. Would you slot him as D2 player most likely in college?
Mike White
11:48
He will be our athlete of the week this week. Great start to year. Honestly, I haven't seen him live. I don't know what level will be good for him.
Jake from state farm
11:48
PIAA could make one small rule that 99% of the schools would approve. That would be you have to Live in PA to play for a PA school or compete for a PIAA championship. sounds simple ?
Mike White
11:50
Nope. Because some of the private/Catholic schools can use an address of an uncle, aunt, grandma. Heck, I know public school kids that do it now. That won't change anything. All you have to do is say someone is going to be your guardian at another address that might be a family member, and go get it notarized and show that you are living there. It's not hard to get something like that notarized.

I was a stud in the 92 season.  You didn’t do a fab 22 that year because of a strike.  Will you ever do a fab 22 that year and give me the recognition I and others deserve?
Mike White

Shut up.

Mike I follow Karlo whatever (WPIAL outsider guy) and he is always crying & complaining about the public vs. private schools. When will people just move on? It’s a law on the books and ZERO private schools have won wpials last two years in football.
Mike White
11:51
Karlo Zovko has a right to his opinion, just like everyone else. I have mine, too. I have voiced my opinion before on Catholic/private/charter school issue. Bottom line is this. It ain't going to change unless there are a bunch of new directors on the PIAA board and they have to come up with a plan.

Not a high school sport but how about Pitt women’s volleyball with that comeback on Saturday.  Pretty intense!
Mike White
11:53
Loved it. Best team in Pittsburgh right now at any level, except maybe Aliquippa football. Ha ha. I love watching those Pitt women play. Truth be told, I have always enjoyed  watching top level football. Those women are great athletes.

Do you know if So Columbia HS has considered playing up? AT what point do they look and say "what else can we accomplish at 2A?"
