with 132 schools playing basketball in the WPIAL. why is it that the WPIAL choose only 17 schools to host playoff games? Some schools having as many as 11-17 games at their school. WPIAL share the wealth. some other schools could use the money on concession sales. All the schools chosen but 2 are very well off school districts

Well, I can't answer exactly how the WPIAL picks spots. I will tell you that not everyone wants to host games. And if a school does a good job hosting, why not go back there???

Mike what do you think about the leopards chances versus North Catholic ? You had it right on when you picked Isaiah Smith as a key to victory. It will be a good battle between Smith and DeGregorio. Still hoping for a rematch with Neumann-Goretti. Thanks

Yes, hard to figure. But it's not just diocesan schools. Look at Mike Zmijanac at Aliquippa. You just feel bad for the coaches. But the schools are doing what they think is right, whether you agree with it or not. But how about this. Andy Macurak, Central Catholic assistant principal who was part of meeting Monday to tell Crummie he was fired, used to be a trainer for Crummie's teams.

Not totally sure. NA or WPIAL would never comment. But NA apparently wasn't happy the WPIAL didn't do anything about Pine-Richland football antics after a football game. But they've hugged and made up. It's good that we have playoff games at NA again. Good site. And the pregame and timeout music is one of a kind. Steve Miller Band. Blondie. Bunch of 1970s stuff. You know the kids love it. I haven't heard Johnny Cash yet this year. Dang.

Years ago Steve Burnett I believe went to Colgate. Lincoln Davis graduated I think six or seven years ago. I believe signed with Fairfield. Ended up playing at Lamar. Might be one or two others.

Any coverage for the PIHL hockey playoffs?  We have some good high school hockey talent in the Pittsburgh area.  Do you or anyone cover this for the Post?

We had a little writeup on line and in edition today of playoffs. We will continue to have stuff on playoff games. We will cover the championships and the state championships. We usually have a hockey story every Friday in our Varsity Xtra edition. So yeah, we do cover it.

No it's not. Many football players at many schools could play basketball and choose not to.

Follow the leader system. Many wish they had play-in games. But the WPIAL will not. Said they will consider it again for the 2021 playoffs.

Cornell lost to Nazareth Prep last night. But considering that the two split two games in the regular season and basically had the same record, should it really be surprising?

I agree with your comment last week re: weak teams in the playoffs. I watched Latrobe lose to Canon-Mac and congrats  to CM for shooting lights out but Latrobe as a high seed didn't make sense. The basketball this year hasn't been good even for the 'good' teams. Your thoughts?

Class 6A has a number of "good" teams this year. No "really good" teams. It's that way in the largest class a lot of years.
