do you see any big moves happening before the deadline. A Bell or Kuhl trade?
Mike Persak
2:41
If I had to guess, Alan? Nah. They only had one last year, so that's not that crazy to say, either.
Jason Mackey
2:42
LD: I don't see either of those happening. For me, it makes more sense to wait until the offseason, when his stock is higher. I also don't think they've punted on signing him to an extension, although there also hasn't really been substantive progress, either. Can't imagine the return on Kuhl would outweigh the risk you run if he goes all Tyler Glasnow somewhere else.

Gentlemen:  Do you see the Pirates making a multiplayer/multi team deal to get a decent major leaguer?
Mike Persak
2:46
I mean, anything's possible. The Pirates have gone after some major league type guys in the waiver market, but I don't think so. I think trades are meant to get prospects, and the Pirates could use a few more of those. Think that'd probably be their goal.

I see Marte is on the block, what's the latest on the prospects we got for him last year
Adam Bittner
2:46
Liover Peguero has been at the alternate site in Altoona since July. Brennan Malone has not. The reason stated by Ben Cherington was that it's easier to give pitchers work to do remotely, whereas they preferred to have position players like Peguero closer to home. But obviously without minor leagues this season, there's no a whole lot more we can observe from the outside.

Can we trade our third base coach?
Mike Persak
2:49
No!
Halvybuckets
2:51
I know analytics trump the eyeball test, and I agree, but Frazier doesn't seem like he would have a lot of value.
Mike Persak
2:52
I think any value lies in what he's done in the past. He's been a good hitter for the last four seasons in Pittsburgh. That's worth something. These 31 games have been tough, for sure, but they aren't the whole picture.

Hey guys, thanks for doing this, love reading your articles. What's your feeling on how many moves GMBC makes? Frazier go? Rrod?
Nick K
2:53
Is it fair to say if the Bucs make any trades it will be close to the 5PM deadline?  I assume most teams are treating the Pirates players as back up options in case other deals fall through.
Mike Persak
2:53
At this point, we're running down to the wire, eh? 1 or 2 at the most, I think. Would be pretty crazy if they ripped off more than that in the last hour and change here. Frazier got a bit of buzz today. Haven't heard much on Rich Rod.
Chuck
2:54
They have such small pieces to trade.  Doubt there would be a return to get excited about. But maybe the luck out and get a lottery ticket out of a deal.
Do you think they can get a 10-15 prospect for Musgrove or Williams?
Jason Mackey
2:54
Hey Nick. Just to make sure you're not confused, deadline is 4 p.m. EST. Maybe you're somewhere else. If so, cool. I've been traveling on a beat since 2014, and I still get confused by time zones and all that stuff. Probably because I'm not very smart. Anyway, yeah, I think the Pirates' moves, if they come at all, will come close to the deadline.
Mike Persak
2:55
I think Musgrove and Williams are the guys who would get the biggest return, Chuck. Young, controllable, have proven themselves on some level at the majors. Personally think top 15 is a fair assumption, if not higher.
Drew
2:56
Is it true the Padres may make a trade with every major league team except the Pirates?  San Diego sure has been busy!
Mike Persak
2:57
I love it. And they just nailed their rebuild, too. Got a ton of exciting prospects, brought 'em up, now that they're good they're really going for it. Excited to watch them down the stretch.
Also shoutout Fernando Tatis Jr. That guy rules.

With his injuries and interesting personality quirks, what value does Kela have?
Jason Mackey
3:00
I don't worry about the personality stuff. I worry about the arm stuff. This isn't the first problem he's had with his right arm. The value, honestly, is not very high. But I don't think it has much to do with his personality. Which, by the way, is often misrepresented. He's actually a solid guy, but he was also pretty damn unhappy here last year and probably showed it a little too easily.

If Frazier is dealt, are we looking at Newman at 2b everyday and a mix of Egon and Tucker at short?
Mike Persak
3:03
That's how I see it, though I wonder if they'd keep Tucker in the outfield a bit, too. Can use him in both places when Gonzalez needs a rest.

If the PG sports department had a 3 p.m. trade deadline and could acquire one sports writer, living or dead, who would it be, and who would you give up to get him or her? I think I go for Frank Deford in his prime, and I give up Batko, Starkey, a PTBNL, plus undisclosed cash.
Jason Mackey
3:06
I'd trade myself for Gary Smith.
Mike Persak
3:07
I would also trade Jason Mackey for Gary Smith
Josh
3:08
Why don’t the pirates just go all in with stallings as a catcher.  He is only 30...cheap...team control.  What am I missing here.
Adam Bittner
3:08
I think you answered your own question, Josh. The fact that he's 30 and cost controlled until 2025 (according to Baseball Reference) allows the Pirates to keep their options open at that position. If he thrives, great. If not, then he's not a Polanco-like albatross on your payroll anyway.
Jason Mackey
3:09
Actually, wait. That trade is way lopsided. I'd trade myself, a PTBNL, cash consideration and a future first-round pick for Gary Smith. Gotta balance it out. And even now I'm not sure I did that.
Adam Bittner
3:09
Also I have a partial no-trade clause so they can only send me back to Orange County.

Who do you see being moved today at this point?
Halvybuckets

Did this freeze up?
Adam Bittner

Mike Persak
3:10
We're still kickin' it, halvybuckets. Working our way through
Sam Simbeto
3:11
9-21? Jesus Mance, I'm sick about it. Will the Buccos trade a starting pitcher today?
Jason Mackey
3:11
The list I'm watching goes like this: Frazier, Kela, Rodriguez, Stratton, Williams, Musgrove, Kuhl ... maybe Polanco. Again, those are the options. Realistically? Maybe just Frazier and Kela.
Mike Persak
3:12
Hey, Sam, it isn't all bad. The Pirates are actually 10-21! I don't know that they're going to sell a starter today. Seems less likely than some of the other players that have been rumored
Lorddale
3:13
Well , here we go again , another dismal Pirate season & the fear of management dealing someone we could use down the road , hopefully this will be the last year of it ! Start playing some people who can help us down the road instead of Riddle & Osuna
