AJ Cassavell: "Craig Stammen, clearly on edge about the possibility of being dealt, has set up an impromptu putting green and is putting in the clubhouse. He's handled the Deadline rumors as well as you possibly could."
I only hope all of us are handling this so well.
Sean Gentille
2:14
There are definitely better ways to handle it.

given that it’s 100 percent we’re getting archer, what else do we include to flip him for harper?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:15
Why not keep them both?

Ballpark nachos are usually bad. But Houston has a Torchy's Tacos with the best chips and queso money can buy.
Sean Gentille
2:15
Torchy's is the rare local spot like that to live up to the rep.

Someone on Twitter suggested flipping Jordy Mercer for Bryce Harper. To me, that's a steal. So do that, ask the Rays politely for Archer, and then call it a day.

So which one of the following quotes to do we get this afternoon: A. "We did all we could", B. "We were willing to go crazy, weren't willing to go insane", or C. "We gave what we felt was our best offer, it wasn't enough to push it over the line"?

I think we see Kevin Gausman heading to Pittsburgh for three minor leaguers. Is this a good get, or does it really depend on the package?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:17
Thing is, minor leaguers aren't created equal. It depends entirely on what their names and their skills are.
Sean Gentille
2:17
Every minor leaguer is the same!

Do you think the Pirates will trade for Chris Archer today?

Sean, I think we can all agree that every minor leaguer is a minor leaguer.
Stephen J. Nesbitt

They're not wrong, Sean.

how can you run someone out of town who doesn't want to be here?
Sean Gentille
2:22
If you think the overall fan valuation of Gerrit Cole was correct, we disagree.

Is there a chance that McCutchen comes back to Pittsburgh??? Probably zero, but it would be a hell of a story
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:22
This will not happen.

Who is going to replace Mercer and Harrison next year and will the replacements be an appreciable upgrade?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:23
Ideally, Kevin Newman will replace Mercer. They could pick up Josh Harrison's option or use Adam Frazier, Max Moroff, etc.
2:24
Crasnick: "If the #Orioles trade Kevin Gausman by 4 p.m., it will not be to the #Pirates. They're out on him."

Why would it even make sense to bring cutch back?  As a baseball

if steven is wrong about mccutchen, he can't eat shake shack for a year
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:24
I agree to those terms.
Sean Gentille
2:24
Mercer is a 0.8 WAR player this season. Harrison is 0.4. Going by that standard, replacing them won't be hard.
Now, replacing the 2017 version of Harrison would be tough. But so far, this year, neither has been good.

Please rank in terms of trade value: Mellamo Trevor, Kingham, Kuhl, Brault, and Glasnow. Would any team take one or two of these guys on? What would happen to the IMHO podcast??
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:25
Williams, Kuhl, Kingham, Glasnow, Brault. Teams would take one or two of them, though I'm not sure why the Pirates would trade them.
Sean Gentille
2:25
I dunno if Kevin Newman profiles to be, like, a 1.2-win player as a rookie, but he's not gonna be much worse.
Paul M.
2:25
Not surprised by being out on Gausman.
Texas Steeler
2:26
No gausman....does that increase the urgency for ARcher
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:26
Not really. The Pirates probably knew this a while ago.
Sean Gentille
2:26
Maybe it means they're close!
