Ended up getting Ron Francis.
Sean Gentille
1:33
It's clear that the teams have talked. It's clear that other teams want him, too. It's clear that the Pirates never make the big move, and that's what this would be.
1:34
So I dunno, 50/50 seems reasonable. It's lame but it feels right.
Stephen J. Nesbitt

Ken Rosenthal: "Sources: #Brewers, #Braves, #Pirates all strongly in mix for Archer, with #Dodgers and others potentially lurking. If bidding is indeed as furious as it sounds, the #Rays have played this exactly right, taking it to the last day, trying to extract maximum value."
Sean Gentille
1:35
Is Rosenthal implying that the Brewers are the leader? Because that'd sure be funny!
Chris
1:35
Nesbitt save some money for dessert or dinner and call it “meal budget flexibility”
Sean Gentille
1:36
I like not eating lunch in anticipation of beers, then calling it "calorie budget flexibility."

Non-trade related question here.  When do you think we'll actually see Kela suited up in black and gold?  And are Dickerson and Bell both eligible to come back from the DL on Saturday?  They won't need minors stints, will they?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:36
Players get a few days to report after trades. He'll probably be here for Friday's opener vs. St. Louis. There's a chance he's here tomorrow. I doubt Dickerson and Bell will need minor league stints unless their injuries drag on longer than expected.
Tom
1:37
The more I hear about Rays extracting maximum value the more concerned I get that Pirates bow out of the race and don't end up getting anyone today
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:37
Again, bidding wars aren't the Pirates' cup of tea.
DC Yinzer
1:37
No do-overs on Gorkys!
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:37
Hater.
Sean Gentille
1:37
Neither is winning playoff series.
I'M SORRY, I'M TRYING TO REMOVE IT
DC Yinzer

Tribe got Martin from Det. And have Zimmer on the shelf. Bieber isn’t being moved.
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:38
Good points. Meadows' only future with the Indians is in Indianapolis.

Does anything really matter?
Sean Gentille
1:38
No way.
1:39
To live is to suffer. To survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.
Dave
1:39
What about Kirby Yates?
why not a Stammen/Yates deal?  Ross?
wasting time on Archer as a long shot, should be focused on Padres
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:39
Dave.
Ray
1:40
Are the talks with Padres over now that Pirates got Kela?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:41
I have heard nothing about the Padres in recent hours. The Pirates' bullpen is in a pretty good place. They could add one reliever, maybe. Yates and Stammen are options.
Sean Gentille
1:41
Stephen just went to get lunch. Word is he's efforting to acquire a bowl of chili.
Chris
1:42
Indians center field may be the biggest hole on a supposed World Series contender. Tyler naguin is a joke and Martin really sucks.
Sean Gentille
1:42
Hasn't Kipnis been awful, too? Is this just an Indians chat now?
Chris
1:44
I think Nightengale already tweeted he had chili but then had to retract it.  Then Bowden tweeted that chili will not be served until the offseason
Robert A
1:45
what bargain bin player will the pirates announce they got 30 minutes after the deadline?  A catcher?  Will they trade Vasquez now they got another closer and try to get 3-4 prospects?
Sean Gentille
1:45
Have some optimism, Robert. They got the best bullpen piece on the market. It doesn't erase the utter failure of previous years, but it's something.
Also, they won't get a catcher.
Stanimal
1:45
If Frazier stays (kinda) hot, you think they finally cut ties with SRod when Bell/Dickerson return from DL?
Sean Gentille
1:46
You know, you'd think so, but SRod has stuck it out on this roster through a lot more. Honestly, I'd bet on them finding some way to keep him around until rosters expand.
Defensive versatility and the endless affection of a manager are valuable skills.
Dave
1:47
I say give Harrison his request.
Sean Gentille
1:47
Josh Harrison has not had a good season of baseball.
Stephen on the Street

Chili acquired. Will report back to my seat shortly.
