A sleeper team in each league to make a deep playoff run?
Tim Dierkes

Guardians and Marlins.  Baseball gods, please give me that World Series

If the Rays were willing to go up to a reported 6 years, 140m for Freeman, could you see them using that somewhere else?
Tim Dierkes
9:49
I'm still wrapping my head around the Rays being willing to do something like that.  The Rays signing Freeman would have far outstripped my surprise at Rockies-KB.  I don't really see a good fit for them on the remaining top free agents.  They could go trade for Montas though.

Will the White Sox trade Kimbrel as has long been rumored?
Tim Dierkes
9:50
It seems like the White Sox may have overestimated the interest in a $16MM Kimbrel on the trade market.  I still think there's a fair chance they get something done though.

Where do you see Correa landing?
Tim Dierkes
9:50
A return to the Astros is the most obvious and easy fit.  For my own entertainment, I'd prefer him to choose a one-year deal and let bidding get out of hand from all kinds of crazy corners.

What is wrong with the Cubs??.....the big market team with small market mentality....."spending $ intelligently"?? I don't buy it.....Would it take another century to see the Cubs win World Series?? I won't be around....ragerage
Tim Dierkes
9:52
I guess, what were you expecting this winter?  The Cubs have already exceeded that by committing $170MM to two guys.

What's the Dodgers' weakness?

BTW, we should have our own MLB team.  Time to correct an injustice.
Tim Dierkes
9:54
I'm all for another team in NY.  Dodgers are susceptible to injury with Turner, Muncy, Pollock, and Daniel Hudson.  Bellinger could suck again.  Gonsolin and Heaney are their fourth and fifth starters.  Kershaw is not going to reach 180 innings.  Buehler and Urias were worked harder than ever last year.  Bullpens are erratic.  Additional players they add come with a 90% tax.

There is Smoke now with Jose Ramirez, if this doesn't happen could Toronto shift to Kettle Marte?
Tim Dierkes
9:55
I still don't think Ramirez is going anywhere, and I also think the Chapman pickup decreases the Jays' interest.
Yankees

If DJ plays a lot of 2b, when was the last time the Yankees had a defensive infield this good (definitely before Jeter), and why are people ignoring that that is a rare benefit to a team? Also their offense was fine after the trade deadline. Clearly they will also trade Voit and they need a catcher and pitcher. But I cannot deal with fellow Yankee fans sometimes.
Tim Dierkes
9:56
I think the Yankees were pretty clear about wanting to improve the infield defense, and they went out and did exactly that.  So yeah, I think it's a fine marginal improvement overall.  I think fans are mad because there were a bunch of star shortstops out there and the Yankees shrugged at them and got IKF.

Hi Tim. To me, the White Sox have 3 things left to do. 1) Get an actual 2B. 2) Move Kimbrel. 3) Insurance in the backend of the rotation. How do you see these scenarios playing out? Thank You.
Tim Dierkes
9:58
I think after Josh Harrison, they're probably done at 2B.  Who's even available?  Kimbrel, they can still pull off.  The backend rotation insurance might just be Reynaldo Lopez and Vince Velasquez, although the Giants are piling up veteran rotation depth and might be on to something.

Are the Mets done with big moves? What about a Dom Smith or JD Davis trade at this point?
Tim Dierkes
9:58
Yes, I think they're done with big moves.  I can see Davis still being traded though.

Would the union not allow voided contracts based on injuries such as Tatis? Previously Kent and others. Tatis is young, should heal and prove his worth on that lifetime deal, however things would be different if it was career ending.
Tim Dierkes
9:59
The union would fight it, it would probably go to a grievance hearing.  If this was Jason Heyward or something the team might be trying stuff.  The case against is that this was made worse by the lockout and that was MLB's idea.

With Bryan Reynolds rejecting 2 Long Term Offers before last season, do the Pirates up their offer to keep him, or will he be bound for brighter pastures?
Tim Dierkes
10:00
He's got four years of control left.  So I think they can spend another year trying to match up on an extension before trade scenarios become serious.

What's the latest on Jorge Soler? Where's he going?
Tim Dierkes
10:02
Pretty much crickets on Soler.  Rangers, Braves, Reds, and Padres make some sense to me.  He needs to mostly DH.

Kris Bryant 50 homers in Coors Field now that he is with Colorado?
Tim Dierkes
10:03
I don't think it doubles a guy's HR production.  I guess I could see like 35.

Voit for Contreras? Any sweetners needed from either side? Possible anyway?
Tim Dierkes
10:03
I think Contreras as a catcher is much more desirable.

looking at the current deals, Rendon’s 7/245 looks like a massive overpay seeing as no one was bidding for his services
Tim Dierkes
10:06
The Rangers reportedly offered 6/192, obviously far short of what he got.  Nightengale said four teams made seven-year offers though.  Nats tried to retain him, Dodgers and Phillies had some interest.
But to answer your question, yes it seems like Boras scored an overpay there, as is often the case.
Did any other team come within $30MM on Kris Bryant's deal?

Danny Duffy signs where?
Tim Dierkes
10:07
Is there a limit to the number of guys like this the Giants can sign?  Angels could use the depth.
Revenue Sharing
10:07
What do you make of MLBs signings to stream games? Does it hurt their MLBTV, does significantly change league revenue, will it help MLB reach a new/young/target audience?
Tim Dierkes
10:08
Yes, each team gets a big payment (not sure how much off the top of my head).  This came at the expense of the fan experience.  Putting MLB games exclusively on Apple TV and Peacock just makes them harder to find and decreases the audience for them compared to MLB.tv.  I was just lamenting with my brother than the Cubs being on WGN is a huge part of why we're baseball fans today.  If that had not been the case I don't know where I'd be today on that.

Red Sox infield remains a long-term puzzle. Does the rest of baseball believe Bogaerts needs to move off SS soon?
