Sign Correa. No draft choice to give up. Give 1st 2yrs at $70 then 5yrs at $140. Total $210.

If Correa were willing to sign for seven years and $210MM, he'd have been extended by the Twins before he even got to free agency.

OK I didn’t see this question asked before if so, my apologies. Any Philly interest on Andrew benintendi

I haven't seen it either! I don't think the fit is a great one. They've got a bunch of corner options locked up in multi-year deals already (Schwarber, Castellanos, Harper), and Benny's not going to play CF on a full-time basis.

In your view, among the big 4 shortstops who is the best fit for the Phillies?
Steve Adams

Correa, but you could argue Turner and I wouldn't push back all that much.

Thor meshed really well with the clubhouse. Do you see him returning, and if so, what does that contract look like?

Syndergaard was one of the hardest names -- maybe the hardest name -- for us as we went through the Top 50 this year. His 2022 was completely unremarkable. It was garden-variety fourth starter with nowhere near the overpowering stuff he showed pre-surgery. Fastball velocity was down, slider velocity was WAY down. If you covered up the name "Noah Syndergaard" and showed just that stat line, there's just nothing to be excited about.

That said, he'll pitch almost all of next season at 30, and it'd hard not to feel like his agents will be able to sell an owner or front office on it being "NOAH. F'IN. SYNDERGAARD." and get them to do something unreasonable.

If I'm Thor, I'm looking for the best two- or three-year deal I can find that'll let me opt out after year one.
2:14
Get your multi-year security, bet on yourself to the extent possible with an opt-out.

Problem is, based on his mediocre 2022 season and his complete absence in the two seasons prior, who's giving him that deal? It's a huge leap of faith based largely on name value
Frankly, I think the Phillies should be looking more at guys who are coming off actually good/great seasons rather than pursuing upside plays like Thor and Bellinger. They have the money to do so.

Salary Arbitration agreements are now guaranteed one year contracts. There must be an agreement- no hearing. They were previously not guaranteed.

Agh, I forgot about this wrinkle in the new CBA when answering earlier on Coonrod
Doesn't change my answer though. It's $775K for a guy who averages 97-98 mph on his heater, can be optioned, etc.
At that price, it's more a question of if he's worth a 40-man spot. Phillies think so. I think that's reasonable.

Are Correa/Turner worth that much more than Bogarts/Swanson to pay the higher price? I'd be inclined to pickup the lower salary in Bogarts/Swanson and spend the extra 10MM on pitching. thoughts?

I think they are. Swanson had a nice season but his best offensive showings have been about 15% better than league average, compared to 30-40% better that you can expect from Turner and Correa. Bogaerts had his best defensive year but also his worst in terms of power output, and I don't think one nice year of defensive stats makes every team suddenly feel he's now a slam-dunk, above-average defender at shortstop -- especially over a long term deal.

Plus Correa's the youngest of the bunch and has no qualifying offer.

Again, I think the Phillies can sign one of the shortstops and still more or less have their pick of the starters. Maybe they can't/won't do Correa/Turner AND one of Verlander/deGrom, but I'd take the in-his-prime Correa/Turner and a more affordable No. 3/4 starter than Swanson+Verlander, personally. Perhaps you don't agree, but that's my view of it.
