MLBTR Cardinals Chat

Yeah none of those would surprise me. Think Joc might have played his way beyond the kind of contract the Cards would do but it's not crazy
Jeff Albert
4:23
Is there any potential of a replacement for me in the coming offseason?
Anthony Franco
4:24
Got a few questions about Albert, so I'll address it. Seems like there's a fair amount of frustration with him among you guys, but it's hard for me to see a change after they finished with the 5th-best team wRC+ in the majors
4:26
Obviously a lot of that is Goldy/Arenado but they had 10 players with 200+ plate appearances and average or better numbers. I can't speak to what Albert does behind the scenes, but the general offensive results are strong

Who is Jeff Albert?
Anthony Franco
4:26
Sorry, should've clarified. Hitting coach
AJ
4:27
Zack Thompson's role next year?
Anthony Franco
4:27
Seems like he's trending towards the multi-inning relief arm role
4:28
More talented than a prototypical mop up guy, someone who can take some high-leverage innings, but not a guy they want trying to turn over a lineup three times as a traditional starter
John
4:28
Mayson Winn ETA??
Anthony Franco
4:29
Probably early 2024. Could play his way onto the roster late next season but they should give him at least a few months in Memphis first
Card of choice
4:29
Any chance the Cards could talk Atlanta out of one of their catchers?
Anthony Franco
4:30
Manny Pina sure, but I don't see the Braves moving d'Arnaud or Contreras
Particularly to one of their top competitors in the NL

Does Hicks get non-tendered?
Anthony Franco
4:31
I'd be surprised. $1.6MM isn't much, and he still throws the hell out of the ball and gets a bunch of grounders. Expect he'll be back in a bullpen role if healthy
Woody
4:33
Do the cards have any shot of trading for woodruff? Would be the ace strikeout pitcher the cardinals need
Pitching
4:33
Pitching, pitching and more pitching. Where’s the next ace coming from?
Anthony Franco
4:33
I don't think it's going to be Woodruff, no. Man that'd be a choice on Milwaukee's part
4:34
If they are going to leverage the system for an upper-tier starter, could see Shane Bieber in that mix. Wouldn't say Pablo López counts as an ace but he's a really good #2, and the Cards have the kind of upper level offensive depth that could appeal to Miami there
4:35
Ok that's all I have time for
Thanks for all the questions, happy to take additional questions on Twitter @affranco10

I'm also doing a chat exclusive to Front Office subscribers tomorrow. Won't be focused on any single team but I get to the vast majority of those questions overall
Here's the link to our membership page if that's of interest
