Reds City Connect jerseys are 🔥

I'm a fan! But why are these City Connect jerseys getting drip-released over what seems like years? Think we've still only had less than ten teams release them?
GLW
10:39
Simon… will the Braves make a trade at the deadline for a starter. Wright and Fried are pretty much done for 2-3 months
Simon Hampton
10:40
Yeah they've built up a nice cushion in a division which I expected to be a lot more competitive at the top, so that affords them a bit of time to weigh up options, but even a solid mid-rotation arm would help them a bit

At the beginning of the season Paul DeJong wouldn’t draw interest on the trade market. Now that he’s off to a good start, what will the Cards do with him?
Simon Hampton
10:41
The strikeouts are down a touch... but the BABIP is .404 and he's had 52 plate appearances. Give it a bit more time

Turnbull was sent down to AAA a week ago, but he was still in the Tiger dugout?  He's now on the IL.  What's up with that?
Simon Hampton
10:43
So there's been a bit of reporting on that out of Detroit ... sounds like the the injury began before the option, so the option's been rescinded and he's on the big league IL - meaning he still collects service time.

Had he been optioned and injured himself at Triple-A, he would go on the minor league IL and not collect service time

The Nationals are a much better team than people like you seem to think they are.  Solid young core, built up the middle, two high quality young starting pitchers plus a capable third guy, and they're only going to get better with experience.  They're probably not contenders yet, but they're far from the worst team in the league.
Simon Hampton
10:44
Sure solid young core, but you're still taking most of the NL over them. I mean which teams are below them in the NL right now? The Rockies as I said, maybe the Reds? That's it.
Cubs

Is David Ross on the managerial hot seat?  Do you think he should be?
Simon Hampton
10:46
He's nowhere near the hot seat

10:47
Who gets dfa'd when Severino returns...or is someone optioned?
Simon Hampton
10:48
Brito still has options so I'd guess he'd go down. Other option would be Schmidt goes to the bullpen, but he's looked a lot more solid of late (3.00 ERA in his past four starts)

Which OFer is gone for a SP?  O'Neill, Carlson, Burleson, Nootbaar
Simon Hampton
10:51
Don't think they're moving Nootbar, selling low on O'Neill, Carlson and Burleson. Kinda feel like the Cardinals might just let things play out this season and hope one of the latter three finds their groove again before addressing things in the winter.

Looking more and more like they'll be sellers, so a move isn't quite as urgent

10:53
Is Justin Steele on an all-star path or is he due for regression?
Simon Hampton
10:54
I think he's got All Star potential for sure. Don't think he can maintain the sub-2 ERA he's got going but I think the regression still leaves you with a low-3 ERA type starter - as he was last season - which is still hugely valuable

Why does it seem like so many teams (mets, cardinals, phillies among MANY others) are struggling to get any kind of momentum going?
Simon Hampton
10:55
It's a good point - the more balanced schedule plays a part I think, and I think the fact there's not that many bad teams this year. Feels like a real dog fight this season, which makes what the Rays are doing that much more impressive
Stick figure
10:56
What kind of deals do you see the Phillies doing at the deadline buyers or sellers
Simon Hampton
10:58
Think they'll still be buyers for sure. Still a very talented group, but the bullpen is a clear area they need to address and strengthen. Beyond that, the bench is pretty light so could see them adding a bat to deepen them there

Just read the hot seat post.. do you believe there is anyone on the hot seat rn?
Simon Hampton
11:01
Not really, the White Sox just hired Grifol so don't think they dump him. Marmol is the one everyone is naturally talking about but he's obviously quite new there too - maybe the Cards shake it up but don't think it's imminent.

David Bell is the other name I would have considered, partly because he's off contract at the end of the season. But the Reds are doing better than I expected so is that really likely either?

As I mentioned, a lot of teams doing reasonably well this year so there aren't really any obvious ones. And if you're the A's - what's the point in firing the manager?
Jarred Kelenic
11:03
Hey Simon, have I finally arrived? I have cooled down after an amazing start ……. Can Hernandez and Wong turn it around and will we make the playoffs?
Simon Hampton
Kelenic is hitting... .227/.277/.364
11:05
I think he can still be a very productive player going forward - he's still hitting the ball a lot harder than he has previously, so even if he's not some .350 hitter I think he can definitely still be a valuable player
Wayne
11:06
How long do Orioles wait to trade for starting pitching with all the prospects they have?
Simon Hampton
11:06
Two of the worst teams have two of the best rental pitchers (Giolito and Montgomery), once (if) those teams feel like they're out of it this season I think we'll start to see trade chatter heating up
AL East
11:06
How many teams from the AL East will make the playoffs? Poll question maybe?

Go on then

What do you see an Aaron Nola FA deal looking like? Do you think he will come close to a Rodon deal?
Simon Hampton
11:09
Nola beats Rodon for me. Rodon has the better stuff and can be more of an Ace with a capital A for me - but Nola is so durable (and still really good!). Would you rather have Nola or what the Yankees are currently dealing with with Rodon?
11:10
Nola's ERA should stabilize a bit, in which case I can see him pushing $200MM
Would you rather sign?
