Not sure if you remember but a few years ago one of the athletics best prospects was outfielder Kyler Murray. He left the athletics though to go play football. Do you think he would of played well in baseball or do you think he would of struggled?

Nothing? Could see more out of Springer and Varsho but Bichette, Guerrero, Chapman and Kiermaier are all having really nice seasons. They're on a bit of a lean run at the moment but don't think it's anything to get too concerned over

White Sox still have plenty of time to climb back into it, and they are their way to doing it now, so, at the deadline they will be buyers not sellers, looking to add to the SP staff not trade away from it

Next month will be critical - a lot of divisional games to claw their way back into it and a few tough opponents as well. If they're back into it in late June it would've been a very nice month indeed from them

Any insight into the insistence of Toronto to keep Varsho in the cleanup spot? I'd wager it has negatively affected his mindset, resulting in pressure to hit in the "middle of the order" in front of a larger fanbase than AZ. You can argue it's just a season-opening slump, but perhaps it'd be prudent to drop him down for a week and see how it goes.

I have no insight into Varsho's mindset - but dropping him down the order certainly risks negatively affecting his mindset as well. Having said that, he's not hitting well and I get the desire to have a left hander in the middle of Springer, Bichette, Guerrero and Chapman, but maybe Belt would be a better fit there at the moment

What on earth is the rule? Why do umpires have the discretion to ask some guys to clean their hands and throw other guys out? A fuzzy line/unclear policy/uneven enforcement seems doomed for trouble if not outright scandal.

I think that's been pretty clear for a while now. He had one good year in LA and that was unfortunately the shortened 2020 season - other than that he's been pretty mediocre.

Defensive metrics love him in right field. 3 OAA and 7 DRS in 221 innings out there is very good

You know I don't hate the framework for some kind of deal here. Corbin is owed $35MM next year and the remainder of his $24MM this year. Hicks/Donaldson are about the remainder of ~$30MM in 2023 salary and about $28MM in future payroll.

So if it was a straight up deal the Yanks would decrease their 2023 payroll but increase their 2024 payroll. Maybe they shift it around a little and find a player or two to add in but it's not an awful starting point for a bad contract swap at all.

I see no reason not to do it today. The skeptic in me obviously wonders if the early June Super 2 deadline plays into it, although I don't believe the Orioles are motivated by that.

I barely count the Marlins playoff run in 2020, so if I take out that season they haven't been to the playoffs since winning it all in 2003, and haven't finished above .500 since 2009.

If they're in the mix still in July it'd be a massive slap in the face of the fans not to push the chips in, particularly after the moves they've made this winter.

I don't think they're nearly as good as the Braves, but I do think they can hang around the Wildcard race, and would like to see them add an outfielder to the mix
