I don't think they would. Agreed, if they thought the option was negative value, then they'd have just declined it
5:32
Maybe they misread the market and should've declined it, but I think it's likelier they're content to keep Kimbrel unless they can get back something of value
Even if that's a similarly high-priced player at a position of greater need (a la Kiemaier or Segura)
Johnny Bravo
5:32
Will the Orioles trade Cedric Mullins?
Anthony Franco
5:33
Heyman reported a couple months ago they were at least open to offers, but I'd be surprised if they actually made a move
Feels like one of those 'set a huge asking price and be content if no one meets it' situations. At some point, you have to come out of the rebuild with stars
Mullins looks like he's going to be that kind of guy

Heliot Ramos and Patrick Bailey to the Guardians for Zack Plesac.. who says no?
Anthony Franco
5:35
Hmm, this one's interesting. Giants might be a little concerned about Plesac's meh strikeout rate, but I think there's a good case for both teams to consider this

How do the Red Sox expect to compete in’22 with a rotation of Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta, Hill & Wacha?
Anthony Franco
5:36
The offense is good, and that rotation should be alright if they all stay healthy
5:37
I'd be concerned about the depth though. One of the higher-variance rotations around the league
Astros
5:38
Would you say Correa is 100% gone?
Anthony Franco
5:38
95%?
Todd
5:38
Does Dom Smith & Mauricio get you Montas?
Anthony Franco
5:38
Nah, don't think Mauricio has that kind of headlining value after putting up a .290 OBP in High-A
5:39
He was somewhere around 90th on Baseball America's top 100 that dropped this morning. For two years of Montas, I think the A's could expect a headliner more in the 30-60 range

What do you think Conforto will sign for? I think the Sox could sign him when they deal Kimbrel.
Anthony Franco
5:40
Believe we had him at one year a bit above the qualifying offer entering the winter but didn't feel great about it
5:41
Wouldn't shock me if he ends up getting two or three years with an opt-out after one valued around $20M
J
5:41
Who signs first? Story or Correa
Anthony Franco
5:42
I'd guess Story
Adam
5:42
Is this really a "lockout" or do you think the players would have gone on strike given how the past CBA favored the owners?
Anthony Franco
5:43
I doubt the players would have gone into the season without a CBA in place, but I don't think they'd have gone on strike during the offseason
Neither did MLB, which is why Manfred used that language about "controlling the timing of a work stoppage" with the lockout
Troy C
5:44
Who is your breakout player in each league?
Anthony Franco
5:44
Haven't given this a ton of thought yet, so answer's subject to change
5:45
But it wouldn't surprise me if Alex Verdugo or Luis Urías take the next step to All-Star caliber players next year
J
5:45
What are the biggest moves the Dbacks have to make to be contenders again? Do they need to bite the bullet and start a rebuild?
Anthony Franco
5:46
I don't think they need to rebuild yet, but the first half feels really important to determining their direction
If they're the worst team in the National League again in mid-July, it's probably time to blow it up
5:47
For now, I'd give the young position players some run, see if any take the steps forward you're hoping to see, and hope that better health in the rotation makes them more competitive than they were last year
Don't believe there's a realistic path to actual contention in 2022 though. The bullpen, in particular, is terrible even after adding Melancon
Brett
5:48
What is the outlook of the mariners from your point of view?  Adding Robbie Ray is a huge boost to the SP rotation along with improvements from Logan Gilbert.  But their isn't a lot of pop on the offense.  Going to miss a lot of power production from Kyle Seager but hopefully Ty France and Jared Kelenic can continue to improve.
Anthony Franco
5:49
I think they're going to be a bit above-average. Might come up a bit shy of 90 wins, since last year's team needed an elite bullpen and a probably unsustainable run in close games to get there
But that should be offset by the Ray pickup and development from guys like Kelenic and Gilbert, hopefully better health from Lewis
I expect them to at least hang around the Wild Card mix
Farhan Zaidi
5:50
Am I really content with a staff of desclafani (terrible second half), wood (injury prone), Cobb (really?) and Webb (elite for 6months) with $100million of cash burning a hole in my pocket?
Anthony Franco
5:50
Zaidi is Giants' president of baseball ops
No, I don't believe they're done. Rodón makes sense there, and I think they'd swing a trade for another starter if they don't sign him
