Anthony Franco

The primary point of the draft is to control costs for players entering the pro ranks below their open market value
squinky
4:24
Is Correa really worth $300 million plus? Elite defender yes, but his offensive numbers are not eye popping
Anthony Franco
4:24
I think so. I'd rather have Correa than Seager and the latter just got $325M
BrewCrew36
4:25
Do the brewers have the cash to add a bat (1B or DH) via free agency or do you see them pulling a trade off (Olsen or Voit)?
Anthony Franco
4:25
I doubt it. Roster Resource already has them at a projected $121M after ending last season at $97M
4:26
Maybe they free up some money and then reinvest it. Trading Josh Hader knocks a projected $10MM off that, for instance. But I'd be surprised if they push to the $130MM+ range

4:26
Could you see the Phils both sign Schwarber and trade for Chapman? Would that be enough (besides bullpen additions), to fill out the lineup?
Anthony Franco
4:27
Sure, it's plausible, although it probably requires going over wherever they set the CBT thresholds. I think that makes the Phils a playoff team, yes
Sad dbacks fan
4:27
What should I look forward to being a dbacks fan
Anthony Franco
4:28
Marte's awesome and I think the young position player group (Rojas, Varsho, Kelly) is going to be good
The pitching's going to be rough, but I think it'll be an OK lineup
SteveB23
4:29
Kimbrel for Gallo...who says no first?
Anthony Franco
4:29
Don't see the Yankees doing this, even with Gallo's second half struggles
Smalls
4:29
Hypothetically, if the Rockies decided to spend money this offseason and make a splash, who would be the best grabs for them? Assuming Story is not among those grabs.
Anthony Franco
4:30
Seems like they want an outfielder. Since I don't think they're plausible 2022 contenders, I'd probably say Suzuki's the best fit based on his age and slightly higher variability
I don't think that's all that likely though. Conforto could work
Tree219
4:30
Who should the Tigers add for the bullpen? Kelly? Jansen?
Anthony Franco
4:31
Sure, those guys make sense. Ryan Tepera's good now, could trade for Chris Stratton or Cole Sulser too
DaveWadena
4:31
Who will be the biggest star to get traded once the lockout is over?
Anthony Franco
4:31
Probably Matt Olson
Metrics
4:31
Did the Rays extend Wander too soon?
Anthony Franco
4:32
No, I'd be stoked to have him under contract for the next decade if I were a Rays' fan. He's incredible
This Guy
4:32
How would you rank the starting rotations in the AL West?
Anthony Franco
4:33
Right now: Astros, A's, Mariners, Angels, Rangers
But the A's are probably going to trade enough guys to drop below Seattle and Los Angeles but the start of the season
Jonathan J
4:34
Do you see the Astros trading Odorizzi and what teams could be interested?
Anthony Franco
4:35
Yeah I think he'll go. A return to Minnesota makes a ton of sense, Mets, White Sox, Giants all seem possible too
Brian
4:35
Hi Anthony, thanks for doing these chats. If there won’t be a significant penalty for going over the cbt, do the Yankees pursue Correa/Story or stand pat/go for stopgap option?
Anthony Franco
4:36
I think they should. There have been enough reports by the N.Y. beat casting doubt on that I now think it's unlikely but not impossible
Robles Return
4:36
What would it cost Boston to re-sign Hansel Robles? He had some nice games for them last year and seems like a buy-low candidate.
Anthony Franco
4:36
Probably just one year at a few million bucks. Makes sense, I agree
Keith K
4:37
What do the Royals end up doing with their log jams at many positions now with all the talent in the minors?
Anthony Franco
4:37
Trade M.J. Melendez for bullpen help?
Ron D.
4:37
Lots of discussions about free agents at SS, but no mention if there is a possibility that the Braves would consider trading Dansby Swanson to free-up $$ for other roster needs, including a veteran pitcher. Perhaps a reunion with Simmons as a one-year stop-gap plan?  Swanson might bring back some value. Your thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:38
I see the logic but I think it's just simpler to try to extend Swanson. Correa feels too costly for their tastes and I'm not sure Story's all that big an upgrade over Dansby
Honey of Catch
4:39
The A's picked up Brent Honeywell for a bag of peanuts, seems like he might be the exact type of reclamation project that keeps the A's afloat. He spent this past season logging innings in AAA, is it enough to make him a potential starter option in 2022?
Anthony Franco
4:40
I'm sure he'll get looks if healthy. Maybe a Kaprielian type role if everything goes according to plan
Perry Minasian
4:40
I need an infielder.  Any suggestions?
Anthony Franco
4:40
Jeff McNeil
This is for the Angels by the way, Minasian's their GM
