What's the chance of NFL-like (hard cap) even playing field with revenue sharing amongst all teams etc?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Zero, MLBPA wants nothing to do with a hard cap
Mike Hazen
4:05
Do you think Kim Ng would see this as a good starting point? Ketel Marte to Miami for Max Meyer and JJ Bleday?
Anthony Franco
4:06
I'd do that if I were Miami, wouldn't on Arizona's end though. Bleday hasn't been very good in the minors
Rob Manfred
4:06
I’m not ending the lockout until I get expanded playoffs. The new arbitration proposal was a negotiating tactic. It’s going to be a slow winter.
Anthony Franco
4:07
They'll get expanded playoffs, seems like the players have already put it on the table
Andy
4:07
What minor league free agents might fit the pirates? Getting Allen so far was a good addition
Anthony Franco
4:08
Allen was a waiver claim, but yeah, it's a fine move for them. They could really look everywhere for depth but I'd look around the infield in particular
Go take a shot on Shed Long or something

Hello from the east coast! What caliber Free agent starting pitcher do you think the jays will be most in on? Rodon and Greinke types or Zach Davies Pineda type
Anthony Franco
4:09
Greinke's more Pineda/Davies than he is Rodón at this point of his career, honestly
4:10
Given the Jays' infield needs, it seems likelier to me they spend there (whether via FA or taking on a player like Chapman with a fairly large arbitration salary) and look to cheaper depth in the rotation
Berríos, Gausman, Ryu, Manoah, Perason, Stripling is already one of the better groups in the American League

Do you think the Astros might chase Jake Diekman? They could use another lefty in the bullpen and though he was so-son in 2021, he was nails in 2021.
Anthony Franco
4:11
Sure, he makes perfect sense. They need lefty bullpen help. I think I pegged them on Tony Watson in my Outlook there but Diekman fits too
Suzuki Should Stay
4:12
Suzuki was the 10th highest paid player in the NPB last year at $2.7M USD per year. Tanaka was the highest paid player at $9M. If we are talking $11M+ per year for Suzuki, doesn’t it make sense for him to see the lockout through? This is life changing money for him.
Anthony Franco
4:13
Perhaps, but he could head back for one more year and try again next offseason thinking the same kind of deal would be on the table given his youth
Reds Fan
4:13
If your the Reds do you continue to try playing Senzel in CF or since you are dumping salary try to trade Moose and Saurez and play Senzel at his natural 3b? Senzel 3b, India 2b, Votto 1b and Barrerro SS?
Anthony Franco
4:14
I wouldn't pencil Senzel in anywhere in the starting lineup really. If he takes the next step, it's an awesome bonus but I don't think you can count on him going into the year
He's obviously had the injury woes throughout his career, and he's a .246/.308/.396 hitter in around a full season's worth of playing time
Jocko Conlan
4:15
Do you feel the MLB players would prefer an automated strike zone?  But don’t make comments about it, because they’d be afraid of retribution?
Anthony Franco
4:15
It's variable, as it is with fans
4:16
I'm sure some guys would love it and have said so openly, but there are others who like the old-school nature of the player-ump relationship
Believe Caleb Joseph got asked this question last week and was against robo umps because he considered forging a relationship with the umpire an important aspect of a catcher's job
Paul
4:17
Do you suspect that the luxury tax threshold will be higher, or lower after negotiations are done?  How will that affect certain hold out high-priced free agents?
Anthony Franco
4:17
Up slightly, as it's been in most past CBA's
4:18
The MLBPA's ask for $245M after this year's was at $210M seems really optimistic. I think it'll end up around the $215-220M mark the league countered with

This really grinds my gears...when MLB and the MLBPA know that their CBA will expire on a certain date, why do they wait until after that date to negotiate a new CBA? Why can't they start to do so before the old one expires?
Anthony Franco
4:18
They talked a few times before the CBA ran out but got nowhere
4:19
Acrimony has been building for a while, and it seems like both sides are at the point where they need to push right up against the deadline before games are in jeopardy to move off their big asks
4:20
Doesn't matter how many times you sit down in September if neither side is willing to change their tune until February anyways
John Smith
4:20
Is the new CBA likely to contain any rules to curtail the ridiculous shifts that are ruining the game?
Anthony Franco
4:20
Seems like they're more concerned with the bigger-picture economics stuff than on-field rules changes
4:21
I think banning the shift will actually make the three-true outcomes style of hitting more prevalent. It'd be a mistake, in my view

Rizzo a good short term sign for M's? I am assuming Evan white is not currently in their plans
Anthony Franco
4:22
I'd rather just let France have first base and keep the DH spot open to rotate the outfielders through
Josh Jung
4:22
Will I be starting at 3B in 2022?
Anthony Franco
4:22
At some point, yeah, but I doubt it's on Opening Day

How much did this anger the 29 other MLB Owners?

Eh, everyone knew this was already the case. He said the quiet-ish part out loud and maybe it's a little bit of bulletin board material for the players but it's not like this was a huge secret
