Who would the Marlins get the biggest return from among Lopez, Rodgers, Cabrera, or Luzardo?
Anthony Franco
6:25
This is a great question. I think it's Luzardo but suspect it'd vary pretty significantly depending on the other team's competitive cycle
6:27
A true win-now club that just wants some immediate rotation stability probably values Pablo higher than the rest of the group. Someone like the Cubs or Orioles -- a team that would like to win in 2023 but is just kind of cracking the contention window open -- likely prefers Luzardo or Rogers given the longer period of club control
Braves
6:27
Is AA a genius signing Austin Riley to a $100+ million less than comparable Devers?
Anthony Franco
6:29
They're similar players but you can't really compare the two extensions that way. Devers was a year away from free agency; Riley was three-plus seasons away. That matters a lot
The Riley deal makes sense for Atlanta, but it's not really an apples to apples comparison with Devers

Cole Irvin, Paul Blackburn and James Kaprielian all bring back what in a trade
Anthony Franco
6:30
Don't think anyone in that group has a ton of trade appeal. They're better fits for an Oakland team that kind of collects pitch-to-contact guys because of the ballpark
6:31
Irvin's the most valuable of the three but I don't expect they'll get a compelling enough to deal any of them
Josh K
6:32
What would you put the odds on Bryan Reynolds starting Opening Day for the Pirates in 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:32
Like 60%?
Chad
6:32
The White Sox need a second baseman.  Any ideas?
Anthony Franco
6:33
Going to have a full post on this up shortly after the chat. If Andrus is willing to play second base, bringing him back would probably be my preferred outcome for them
Guardians
6:34
Thank you thank you thank you Jose Ramirez
Anthony Franco
6:35
Haha yeah, Cleveland lucked out with that one. Credit to them for creating the kind of environment he was willing to take such a notable discount to stay, but that's one hell of a bargain
Bucco71
6:35
Higher upside:  Lodolo or Gore?
Anthony Franco
6:36
Gore probably has the higher upside, Lodolo's a little safer

6:36
Since the Rangers have gone so far already do you see them addressing LF by trading from their prospect surplus ?
Anthony Franco
6:37
Yeah I don't think they're going to run it back with just Bubba Thompson, and a Profar return in free agency feels unlikely
6:38
I'd start experimenting with Justin Foscue out there in Round Rock though. He's not going to take second base from Semien but I'm confident enough he'll hit enough to meet the higher offensive demands in the corner outfield
Bray
6:39
Why was the Murphy return for the A’s so weak? They wanted Nootbaar, Donovan, and a top pitching prospect (Gordon Graceffo). Why did the settle on Ruíz (who is legit), Salinas, Muller, Piña, and Tarnock?
Anthony Franco
6:40
Just seems like they love Ruiz. If you buy him as a top 50 caliber prospect -- which they seem to, considering they took him over William Contreras -- then the rest of the package feels fine. The A's love trading for upper level pitching prospects
Justin
6:41
With all the rookies the dodgers have do any of them have a legit chance at Rookie of The Year?
Anthony Franco
6:42
Miguel Vargas would probably be my early pick for that
Harvey Oberst
6:43
What would it take for the Tigers to acquire Joey Wendle?
Anthony Franco
6:44
Not a whole lot but I also don't really see what's in it for Detroit. Wendle's going to be 33 and is headed into his final year of team control. I'd rather just sign Brian Anderson for a similar amount of money without giving up any controllable talent

The AL West is still the Astros’. The Angels and Rangers have made big moves this off-season. Which (if either) do you foresee making a run at a wild card spot?
Anthony Franco
6:47
Agreed Houston's the favorite, Seattle still second. Texas and Angels would both be in the Wild Card mix for me, think I'd go slight lean towards Anaheim right now
They're really close though, and Texas' left field addition could push them past the Halos. 80% of that division should be good
Staying in the NLC
6:48
Are you surprised at the relative silence out of Busch Stadium especially after MO touted "increased payroll" ? It's tough to sell anyone on a playoff contender with two Top 3 MVP candidates ousted in round one.
Anthony Franco
6:48
They signed Contreras so it's not like they've done nothing, but I did think they'd more seriously try to pursue an upper-mid rotation or better starter
Just Curious
6:49
What is the internal vetting process for rumors making it to the MLBTR page like? I know "if it's whispered we hear it" but like with the Devers extension, was it only reported after it was confirmed by multiple sources or would it run as early whispers from Baerga's IG post were seen? Is there a list of "verified" sources or is it just a common sense "hey, don't run something if it's @mlb_scoopz1 on Twitter" you-know-it-when-you-see-it thing. It seems like there's a handful of stuff rumored from accts on the periphery like local radio guys that end up being confirmed a day or two later.
Anthony Franco
6:51
Yeah, we were aware of Baerga's report a few minutes before our post went up. In edge cases like that, we'll just kind of talk through the track record of the person who was first to report it (if they have one) and adjust whether and how we cover what they're saying accordingly
Anthony B
6:52
Are the Yankees done making moves until July? Do you see any path for them to improve LF outside of internal options?
Anthony Franco
6:52
Still a handful of the veteran depth types out there in free agency. I think they'll add someone on a lower-cost MLB deal
Rico
6:53
With the top free agents all gone, should we expect much action over the next six weeks until pitchers and catchers report?  Or have we passed into the time when teams are just signing bullpen depth?  Obviously, we never know when a trade will happen, but are you expecting a lot of trades, or just a lot of noise?
Anthony Franco
6:53
There are going to be some trades obviously -- Miami and Minnesota feel like they still have to do something -- but I'd guess it's pretty slow from here on out. There aren't that many teams this year that don't think they can compete
6:55
And even the handful that'd fall in that bucket -- Oakland, Washington, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Detroit to a lesser extent -- have already shipped out most of the interesting players they wouldn't consider to be long-term core pieces
Yuli Gurriel
6:55
Will the Astros re-sign me, or should I just go ahead and retire? The silence of my market is deafening.
Anthony Franco
6:56
First base market in general was pretty slow beyond the top few guys (Rizzo, Abreu, Bell). Yuli should be able to get a major league deal still, albeit at a pretty low salary and without a guarantee of everyday first base reps
