Is Wong back at 2nd for the crew? Does Turang get a shot?
Anthony Franco
7:58
Given their pretty hefty arbitration class, I think they'll buy Wong out. Turang goes on the 40-man this offseason and could compete for the job in Spring Training, sure. Guessing they'll add a lower-cost veteran to the mix as well
Chris

What do the mariners do with Mitch haniger? He's out right? Are they going to give the job to kelenic or sign someone?
Anthony Franco
7:59
Yeah I think Haniger probably walks. M's have enough  young outfield talent I doubt they'll be the most motivated team for him

how Does gerrit cole end with a lower bwar than Kevin gausman despite more ip and better ra9 ?
Anthony Franco
8:01
Haven't looked at this super closely but I'm guessing it's their defensive adjustment. BRef credits pitchers who play on inferior defensive teams. Yankees lead the majors in Defensive Runs Saved
Angels Fan
8:01
Thoughts on Nevin's one year contract.  Uncertainty with him, or with the sale of the Angels?
Anthony Franco
8:02
Just feels like kicking the can down the road by a year. Gives them a chance to evaluate Nevin for a bit more time and allows new ownership an opportunity to determine whether they want to keep the leadership intact (both manager and front office) or overhaul things next winter
A's Fan
8:03
Would Robert Suarez and Mike Clevinger make sense for Oakland?
Anthony Franco
8:04
They're upgrades and the A's have to sign some players, so sure. Not going to make a whole lot of difference in the standings though, and obviously both players would have to be willing to go to a team that won't compete next year
Cardinals
8:05
Do I get a shortstop in the offseason or stick with DeJong?
Anthony Franco
8:06
Definitely not going to be DeJong. Could keep Edman at short and run it back with Donovan/Gorman at second base
I do think they'll at least poke around the market for shortstops this offseason. Wouldn't pick them to actually sign any of the big four free agents though, and the José Igelsias types just aren't going to be meaningful enough upgrades
Royals Fan
8:07
If you were JJ piccolo how aggressive would you be in overhauling the starting rotation? Say Greinke comes back and our rotation goes singer, greinke,___________?
Anthony Franco
8:08
I'd give Lynch another shot but have to add two guys from outside the organization. Bubic, Heasley and Carlos Hernández just aren't cutting it
I kind of like Max Castillo but more as a sixth or seventh starter than someone who should be in an Opening Day rotation
Bryce
8:09
Judge will be with what team next year?
Anthony Franco
8:09
Don't see him leaving the Yankees
Zac
8:09
Diamondbacks going after a big time SS? Or too much Madbum money holding them back?
Anthony Franco
8:11
Can't see it. Not necessarily the Bumgarner money, since they will have some flexibility to address the bullpen and maybe add a mid-rotation starter. But dropping $150-$200MM on any of the top free agent shortstops is too far out character for the organization
8:12
Could see them looking into an Amed Rosario type via trade though. Wouldn't be ideal to just run it back with Ahmed/Perdomo
Neale
8:12
Chances the Red Sox compete next year? I don’t see it, but I’d love to be proven wrong. Thanks, Anthony.
Anthony Franco
8:13
Have to see the offseason first right? They've got a ton of money to play with but could lose their shortstop and have to overhaul a huge chunk of the pitching staff
I don't think it's out of the question or anything but so much depends on what they do this winter
Joe
8:14
Will Judge really get $300Mil?  I just don’t see a team out there willing to push NYY to go higher than 8/275.
Anthony Franco
8:14
Yeah I'd take the over
On 300
Lion-O
8:14
Will the Cubs actually spend money this off-season or is it the same usual rhetoric?
Anthony Franco
8:15
I think they'd argue they spent last offseason. Almost half their roster was brought in via free agency. Most of that was short-term obviously but Suzuki/Stroman were notable expenditures
8:17
I don't expect they'll sign Judge, deGrom or one of the top shortstops. I do think they'll add to their bullpen and probably bring in a first base/DH type to upgrade the overall offense
Nl roy?
8:17
Harris or strider?
Anthony Franco
8:17
Strider for me
Charlie Harper
8:17
Will next year's balanced schedule favor central division teams because of less rigorous travel schedules than teams on each coast?
Anthony Franco
8:19
Maybe over the long run I could see this being a slight advantage but the immediate effect cuts the opposite way. The Central divisions are the two worst in baseball. Fewer division games means a tougher schedule
Ross
8:19
What's Severino's contract situation?  Didn't he just get $40mil for 4 years of relatively little play?  Are there options?  Do they get picked up?
Anthony Franco
8:20
He has a $15MM team option I expect the Yankees to exercise
Would you rather..
8:20
Be a closer in Game 7 of the WS or a batter in the sa.e spot. 3-2 count bases loaded?
Anthony Franco
8:21
Are we assuming the defensive team has a one-run lead? Closer feels like the easier play but the batter would be a more central figure in baseball history if he came through
Chris
8:22
Does Swanson get over / under 125M?
Anthony Franco
8:23
Over, assuming he's not taking a notable discount to stay with the Braves. Comps pretty well to Báez/Story last winter, and both those guys got $140MM with an opt-out
