Nimmo back or signs elsewhere
Anthony Franco

I'll take the field. Ton of teams need center field help, Mets have a bunch of free agents to try to keep and could kick Marte back to center if Nimmo walks

Do the Phillies hand out another nine-figure contract this offseason? Thinking specifically of Trea Turner.
Anthony Franco
8:25
I don't think they'll want to make another commitment like that but they've got a decent amount coming off the books next year that could allow them to make a splash
8:26
I lean more towards that being a high-AAV, shorter-term commitment to a starting pitcher (Verlander or deGrom type), considering the amount of money they have invested long-term in a number of position players

What right fielder would you rather have.  Jude or sho time
Anthony Franco

If Ohtani's only playing right field in this situation, I'd take Judge. If we're talking overall players, Ohtani
Preller’s Padre
8:28
Did the Soto trade shorten SD’s window of contention? Or will Preller restock the farm fast?
Anthony Franco
8:29
They'll have a harder time competing in 2025-26 than they would've if they still had Gore, Hassell, Wood, etc. But the window should be firmly wide open at least through 2024 while Soto's around, and if ownership's cool hovering around the luxury tax annually, they can find ways to work around the diminished farm system
8:30
I do think Preller and his group are above-average at scouting and procuring amateur talent as well, which should help backfill the farm to some extent

Biggest surprise team both good and bad. Good for me Mariners bad White Sox.

Does Swanson resign with the Braves?
Anthony Franco
8:32
They'd be my pick

Are Bud Black and the Rockies going to part ways this offseason?
KC City

Why did we underachieve so much this season?
Anthony Franco
8:34
Starting pitching (aside from Singer) hasn't developed the way it should've

Who starts CF next year for the brewers?   Taylor, Mitchell, Ruiz or Sal Frelick
Anthony Franco
8:36
Guessing it'll be Mitchell to start. Frelick doesn't have to go on the 40-man yet so they won't put him on there over the offseason, probably send him back to Nashville for the first month or so
If Frelick keeps tearing up Triple-A and Mitchell gets off to a slow start, could see them swapping places by mid-May

Who’s the best player on the Red Sox

Devers for me

Alright that's all I have time for today
Thanks for all the questions, apologies as always for the stuff I couldn't address
I'll do a chat exclusive for Front Office subscribers on Friday, as I do each week. You're much more likely to get a response with more detail in those since there are far fewer questions to sort through
8:39
That also gets you weekly analysis posts from Steve and myself on various topics. On Monday, I ran through a few arbitration-eligible hitters on contenders I think could get traded this offseason
