We have Suarez getting three right now
Arbitration
6:24
If a player is non-tendered, does another team have to pay them their arbitration number or are they free to negotiate a brand new contract?
Anthony Franco
6:24
New contract, they just become a free agent
Dodgers Fan
6:24
I am boycotting until Friendman and Roberts are fired. We've put up with this long enough.
Anthony Franco
6:25
They've won 106 or more games in each of the last three full seasons. It could be way worse
Ben
6:26
Starting a franchise today would you rather have Bryce Harper or Mike Trout? I'm interested if this has flipped for people.
Anthony Franco
6:27
Hmm, good question. I think I'd still go Trout if we take contracts out of it. Bryce is a year younger but I slightly prefer Trout offensively
Giants fan
6:27
Lately ive been reading that the starting pitching market involves a top tier, senga, and then a "next tier" of anderson, Thor, Heaney... but i dont remember references to Eovaldi. How does he fall in to these tiers? Would he be a good candidate for the pillow contract type additions (Gausman/Disco/Wood/Rodon) that my Giants seem to like? Assuming we fail to retain Rodon
Anthony Franco
6:28
Yeah I like Eovaldi alongside Bassitt. If you set aside Kershaw and Senga, they're the next two for me behind Rodón, deGrom and JV
6:29
Think I'm more bullish on Eovaldi than Steve or Tim, though. They're a little more concerned about the injury history and the dip in velocity later in the season
Cards Fan

Who will be our Opening Day catcher?
Anthony Franco
6:30
I guess if I pegged Murphy to Cleveland earlier, I'll throw STL Christian Vázquez

Would Boras and Soto hold off on signing an extension this off-season and bet on a huge year in 2023 to establish more value?
Anthony Franco
6:30
I don not expect Soto to sign an extension in either of the next two years. Would be very surprised if he doesn't go through arbitration and hit free agency when first eligible
6:31
Do not*

What's next for the Brewers?
Anthony Franco
6:32
Busy offseason, could go in a bunch of different ways. Does feel like they're going to have to clear out some of the arbitration class. Renfroe probably moves, and I'd bet on one of Burnes/Woodruff getting dealt for pre-arbitration guys who could bolster the offense
6:33
Not going to be a rebuild, just the Milwaukee/Cleveland/Tampa Bay way of on-the-fly retooling to remain consistently competitive with a lower than average payroll

Danny Jansen to Diamondbacks for Alek Thomas, yay or nay?
Anthony Franco
6:34
Interesting one. My guess is Arizona would be reluctant to do this for just two years of arb control over Jansen but I don't think it's a crazy ask from Toronto
6:35
Depends on how down the D-Backs are on Thomas' early struggles against big league arms. Doubt they're  quite there yet

6:35
Any chance I sign judge this off-season?
Anthony Franco
6:35
(Phillies)
Cannot see it with Bryce, Castellanos and Schwarber. You're basically committing to playing Judge in CF for the foreseeable future
6:36
Shortstop or the top of the pitching market is much more straightforward for them than Judge

6:36
Between Correa and Swanson, which player is more likely for 8/200 in SF
Anthony Franco
6:36
Well I don't think either gets 8/200, but there's zero chance Correa takes that
6:37
So I guess Swanson, but that's about $40-50MM above where I expect him to end up
Jays
6:37
Is Nate Pearson done as a starter?  Thinking it's better to get something rather than nothing.
Anthony Franco
6:38
Yeah I agree. We're at the time where I'd 'pen him and hope he stays healthy
Evan Petzold reports that Andrew Chafin is declining his player option with Detroit and testing FA
6:39
Going to get that up on the site. Give me two minutes
6:41
Alright, I'm back
Going to hold this chat tight to an hour so I can fill out that post, but I'll hang around until 6:00
Centerfield help
6:41
Why is there no trade interest in A's centerfielder Ramon Laureano? You would think the Cardinals, Padres, Blue Jays, Rockies, Guardians and others would be all over themselves trying to trade for him?
Anthony Franco
6:42
Just doesn't feel like an opportune time for Oakland to move him. He had a bad offensive season coming off a PED suspension, and the A's mostly moved him off center field
6:43
There's still some trade value there, and I think teams will inquire. But it'd be such a sell-low I doubt the A's wouldn't prefer to just hold him and hope for a bounceback before next summer's deadline
Jerry Reinsdorf
6:44
Do you like my hire?
Anthony Franco
6:44
I got a bunch of questions about Pedro Grifol, and it seems fine. I don't know him personally, but he's long been viewed as a manager-in-waiting type
6:45
Whether he's better than Joe Espada or something, I don't know, but it seems a perfectly defensible hire from the outside
