Will the Cardinals make an upgrade at SS?
Anthony Franco
5:28
Doesn't seem like it. They haven't really been tied to any of the free agent shortstops thus far, and I can't see them trading for one when DeJong and Sosa make for a decent if unspectacular combo

Who plays 2B for us next year?
Anthony Franco
5:29
Jonathan Villar maybe

Now that Wander is locked up for years to come and has a lot of surplus value, do you think the Rays would consider trading him for another young superstar who could have a more immediate impact on winning in 2022 like perhaps Soto?  There are very few trades involving either which make sense at all.  But, this one made me actually think it could make sense for both teams since Washington (which acts cheap too) gets a long-term asset on a sweet contract and TB gets the player more likely to push you towards a championship in 2022 imho.  Also, can you imagine Soto once TB got him to add more loft to his swing?
Anthony Franco

Ha, I appreciate the out-of-the-box thinking, but this isn't happening

When will Mackenzie Gore realistically be called up to the majors?
Anthony Franco
5:30
Kind of depends on his 2022 form, which is unknowable right now
I think the Padres envisioned him being in the majors last year but his mechanics got all out of whack. If he gets back to anything resembling his 2019 self, he's probably in the majors by April

If you were a GM of a bad team (O's, D-backs, Pirates) with one really good player (Mullins, Marte, Reynolds), would you trade them for a solid package, or hope they can be a a part of the next contender? Say the Rays offer Xavier Edwards, Seth Johnson, Vidal Brujan and John Doxakis.
Anthony Franco
5:32
Have to take everything on a case-by-case basis and I'm generally loath to part with controllable star position players, since those are the guys you want to come out of a rebuild with anyhow
5:33
That said, that's a really strong prospect package and I'd think all three of those teams would have to at least give it real consideration

How many opening days have you been to?
Anthony Franco
5:33
Zero unfortunately
Haven't been to all that many games in person, period. Living in Buffalo's not conducive to watching much live MLB

With Jake Meyers out for a few months, could the Astros possibly look for trades involving Grichuk or Kiermaier?
Anthony Franco
5:34
Kiermaier makes some sense. I think Chas McCormick's better than Grichuk already though
27 parks and counting

Who plays 2nd base for the Red Sox next year?
Anthony Franco
5:35
I think it's likely they add another outfielder and give Hernández the bulk of playing time at second
Steve Cohen

Favorite Ballpark?
Anthony Franco
5:36
Caveat that I've only been to like a third of parks -- almost all on the East Coast. But PNC's the best of the ones I've been to
Degrom/Trout
5:37
was 2020’s shortened season especially bad for us? Coupled with our injury-plagued 2021, did this greatly harm our chances for HOF (for Degrom) and GOAT (Trout). Degrom stats just don’t seem to add up using JAWS/WAR7 or traditional stats.
Anthony Franco
5:38
Yeah, I think between the shortened schedule and both guys missing a bunch of 2021 with injury, there'll be a bit of a hit to their legacies
5:39
Trout's still an obvious Hall of Famer. With him it's more a question of "will he be the fourth-greatest player ever or ninth-greatest, etc"
5:40
deGrom HOF will be a really interesting debate. I think the bigger thing with 2020 is that he didn't win the Cy Young as opposed to the shortened schedule
(I think he probably should have btw)
Three CY's gets him in even with a shorter peak

Alright everyone, going to run to get some posts up on the site
5:43
Thanks for all the questions this week!
We had a little under 600 people for most of this, so obviously I couldn't get to everything I'd have liked to
5:44
I run a weekly chat on Fridays with Front Office subscribers that's significantly less packed, and you're typically 10 times as likely to get a question answered in one of those than the general ones
5:45
Here's the link to sign up for a membership, if that's of interest to anyone
You can also reach me on Twitter @affranco10 during the week with questions

Talk to you all next week, have a good one!
