It's negative trade value. If he a free agent this offseason, he wouldn't have come close to $55MM over two years, which is why he opted into the deal in the first place

They'd have to pay down a decent chunk of the money, and at that point, it feels like the Sox are better off just holding him and hoping he stays healthy. It's not like they're overflowing with rotation depth

There's appeal for Escobar at one year and $10MM. Think they could land a mid-level prospect and shed the entire contract if they wanted to do that, but I also don't know why the Mets would bother

Yeah I could see this. He's maybe a little redundant with Rengifo but there's enough injury risk with the entire infield they could try to bring in somebody else
