If the Phillies stumble, Aaron Nola goes up for sale, correct?  Based on underlying numbers, what type of return should they expect?
Anthony Franco
5:43
I can't see them trading Nola, at least not until next offseason. They don't strike me as a "tear down at the deadline" type of team even if they have a horrible first half
5:44
MLB and the union are meeting tomorrow, by the way
Andy
5:44
Why are the Rays opening Meadows up? He is a top 25 MLB player. The Rays need that help. I understand they are the Rays but still.
Anthony Franco
5:44
I think the Rays would disagree (as would I) with your characterization of Meadows as a top 25 player leaguewide
Mike E.
5:45
Will I bring Correa to Baltimore?
Anthony Franco
5:45
Steve's banging the drum for this one and I also think it makes some sense, but I'd be completely stunned if it actually happened
Alex A.
5:46
If the Braves don't sign Freeman, who would they replace him with?
Anthony Franco
5:46
An Olson or Voit trade or signing Anthony Rizzo all make some amount of sense
5:47
The first base market basically hasn't moved yet (presumably because teams were waiting on Freeman). It's probably the post-lockout thing I'm most excited to watch unfold
Jc in Orlando
5:47
Do you think Cano can be a productive DH? Or has that ship passed and it's time to just cut bait and move on.
Anthony Franco
5:47
I'm skeptical given his age and the fact that he hasn't a played in a year. But I'd also give him a look if I were the Mets
5:48
They're not going to get anything for him anyways. Releasing him frees a roster spot but they're still on the hook for the money. Give him a month and see what happens. If he's terrible, then cut him loose. If he can still hit, then great
Miguel
5:48
Mets make another move or stay with what they have?
Anthony Franco
5:49
I think they're trading one of Davis/McNeil. They're definitely going to bring in another arm at the back of the rotation, and I wouldn't be shocked if they look for an upgrade over McCann at catcher
Jim Davenport
5:49
Do you watch much of the MLB TV Network? Is it a money-maker for MLB?
Anthony Franco
5:50
I'll watch some of the live games they host. Don't watch a ton of the analysis stuff or the eight million times they play The Natural on repeat though
5:51
The analysis stuff isn't personal, to be clear. I like some of their personnel quite a bit. I just spend a bunch of my time for work reading MLB analysis and don't typically want to devote a ton of free time to that as well

5:52
The Giants have at maximum 4 starting pitchers I think they need two more decent ones minimum.  Only one good FA.  Will they sign 4 projects or trade?
Anthony Franco
5:52
I think they'll bring in two more guys, and I'd be surprised if they didn't land someone like Manaea, Gray, Means, etc. via trade
Angels
5:52
Does a trade for McNeil to play 2B make sense and then move Fletch to SS?
Anthony Franco
5:53
Yeah I'd like that for them. They need to find someone to play alongside Fletcher in the middle infield
Can't go into the season relying on Tyler Wade and Luis Rengifo as a fringe contender
Play Ball!
5:53
Do you have the ability to mute posters who spam questions or use flagrant language and, if so, how often do you use said ability?
Anthony Franco
5:54
I believe I do but never use it. I just skip through stuff like this:
Typical MLBTR Writer
5:54
Owners baaaaaaaaaaaaaad waaaah
Rick Porcello
5:54
Is Rick Porcello retired?
Anthony Franco
5:54
I don't think he's officially announced anything but I imagine that if he were looking to continue playing, his agents would've put the word out
Intentional Walk Off
5:55
After just reading about the competitive tax proposal, I feel very pessimistic about a deal getting done anytime soon.  Do you think minor league attendance will set new records because of the lockout?
Anthony Franco
5:56
I don't know how much overlap there is really. I feel like the majority of people go to minor league games for the "family night at the ballpark" kind of thing as opposed to a diehard love of baseball
Could be wrong, and hopefully we never find out because MLB games get started on time
5:57
I'm hopeful that some people use the lockout as a chance to give college baseball a shot though. Those games are really exciting, particularly in the major conferences
Curious George
5:57
Who says no? White Sox send Vaughn, Steiver and another minor leaguer to Pittsburgh for Bryan Reynolds.
Anthony Franco
5:58
Much as I love Vaughn, I don't think it's enough for Reynolds, whom the Pirates seem loath to move
Baseball guy
5:58
Do you envision a delayed start to the season where x amount of games lost, MLB dropping the lockout without an agreement and starting the season and MLPA waiting until the conclusion of the playoffs before striking, thus dragging this into 2023?
Anthony Franco
5:58
I don't think there's any way MLB drops the lockout without a new CBA in place
5:59
Returning to play the regular season without a deal and having the players strike just before the playoffs start would put the league at a real disadvantage in bargaining
Ron
6:00
Assuming no giant changes to the current arbitration system in the new CBA - what's a pre-MLB debut extension look like for Julio Rodriguez?
Anthony Franco
6:00
Hmm, I'd guess it's probably a bit above the Eloy Jiménez deal to get conversations going
6:01
Obviously have no idea if Rodríguez is amenable to that. Guys' willingness to bet on themselves as opposed to sacrificing future earning potential is really variable
