Between free agents, non-tenders, maybe a trade or two, etc., the Dodgers will find room for everyone they want to keep
Preller Jr

LF play is dismal for the Padres currently; doubtful Heyward reverts to his younger self anytime soon. Lockridge has shown he’s a fourth OF at best too. Since they don’t think much of Ornelas who can they target in trades?
Mark P
10:05
Because he was mentioned earlier, Mullins would be a pretty ideal fit for San Diego, if the O's did move into sell mode.

Odds we see Josiah Gray back this season?
Mark P
10:06
Gray had both a Tommy John and a brace surgery last July.  I'm no doctor and I don't know exactly if this means his timeline will differ from a pitcher who gets just a normal TJ procedure, but I wouldn't count on seeing Gray until 2026

Can you see the Yankees selling high on Trent Grisham as he is a free agent at the end of the season?
Mark P
10:08
Nope.  Grisham's emergence has been such a help for the Yankees that it makes little to no sense to move him.
Sad Buc
10:09
Do the Pirates enter yet another rebuild, and trade Skeens and Cruz?
Mark P
10:11
I don't see either staying in Pittsburgh over the long term, particularly Skenes.  So trades are ultimately just a matter of time, but obviously the team doesn't hope to be back in rebuild mode when these deals are swung.

Ideally if you're the Bucs, you get on track and start winning, and in a couple of years time, you leverage Cruz and Skenes into separate blockbuster trades that bring in more talent (both prospects and win-now players) to keep the wheel turning.

Mark, we keep winning. Should I just stay in St. Louis?
Mark P
10:14
Arenado's ideal scenario is to stay and keep playing for a winning Cards team.  There's a reason his "waiver the no-trade clause" list was so short.

What would Bohm cost the Mariners?
Mark P
10:16
Better question: why would the Mariners make a move for a player in such a severe slump?
Bobby Cox
10:18
Devers just walked it off. Because our pen is terrible
Mark P
10:19
Rough, rough loss for Atlanta tonight.  Looking at the overall pitcher-by-pitcher numbers, their pen looks pretty decent except for Iglesias, and even his advanced metrics paint him as very unlucky.

But, the Braves are among the league leaders in blown saves, and that's not even counting losing a ninth inning tied game like tonight
10:20
All of this to say, Anthopoulos targets relief pitching in all circumstances, and the pen will surely be a priority at the deadline
Oceans 11
10:21
Love that movie.  Thoughts on a Oceans 14 sequel?
Mark P
10:22
Oceans 11 (the Clooney version) is one of my favourite movies.  The sequels....uh, are not.  I think I'm good with this series being wrapped.

What big bat if any could you see the tigers trading for? Still need more offense
Mark P
10:23
These may not be the big bats you had in mind in terms of new additions, but just getting Meadows and Vierling healthy will deepen the roster nicely.
TEX
10:24
What do you thing of Rushings who the Dodgera just called up. Think he is going to rake?
Mark P
10:24
My default is to just assume a Dodgers prospect is going to be pretty good

10:27
MLB and NFL Draft Lottery like NBA/NHL ones?
Mark P
10:27
MLB already changed their draft process to a lottery system, and we've already seen a few surprise teams emerge with the first overall pick
Canada
10:28
Gord Downie would be a top five frontmen of all time if he had US media attention.
Mark P
10:28
Amen to that.  The Tragically Hip were an amazing band.
Twins Win
10:28
What do the Twins add at the deadline?
Mark P
10:30
With the pitching staff firing on all cylinders, lineup help is the bigger need at the moment.  I'd look into an upgrade on Ty France at first base, for one
PCA 4 MVP
10:30
Pete Crow-Armstrong is off to a phenomenal start.
Mark P
10:31
He is more than living up to the hype.  What a fun all-around player PCA has quickly become!

10:31
Thanks, Mark. I’ve decided to stay.
Mark P
10:32
....wow, who knew I wielded such influence?
Ray
10:34
How long can the Cubs keep overperforming?
Mark P
10:35
The Cubs will need some rotation help, but their offense has been good enough to outslug teams.  They certainly look like real deals to me.
10:36
That's about two hours, so it's time to wrap things up for the evening.  Thanks so much for all the questions, and stay tuned thoughout the week for other chats (both free chats and subscriber-only chats) with the MLBTR team
