Designated pinch-hitting, probably. It was trending away from that anyways, and pitcher-hitting feels like the final nail in the coffin
5:41
But you'll still get platoon situations, and the frequency of pitching changes now means there'll be tons of opportunities for pinch hitting for players at the same position but with different skillsets
Billy Beane
5:41
Realistically, what type of return should we expect for Manaea? Montas?
Anthony Franco
5:42
I think Manaea brings back two prospects who are in like the 8-15 range in a typical farm system, nobody from the Top 100. I could see Montas pulling like the 75th-best prospect in baseball as a headliner
Trout Sho
5:42
Who plays shortstop for the Angels?
Anthony Franco
5:43
Tyler Wade I guess? I'm really surprised they did nothing to address that
5:44
They signed Matt Duffy and could use him at second while bumping Fletcher to short. That's still probably a bottom five middle infield
kellyshero45@yahoo.com
5:44
Repeat if not the Met's (Conforto) could he end up in Tampa Bay or Toronto
Anthony Franco
5:44
I don't think either of those teams have the need in the outfield of some others
Cris E
5:45
Given the money spent and moves made so far, are the Yankees really set at SS and C?
Anthony Franco
5:45
Shortstop definitely. Seems like they've zeroed in on IKF for months
Catcher, eh, I think they could still trade for Contreras
Payroll Balance
5:46
Do you find it depressing, disgusting, or amusing that the Dodgers are spending something like $250 more than the Orioles to field a baseball team? Which is to say, is a salary floor something that needs to be implemented?
Anthony Franco
5:46
I mostly don't care really. The Dodgers are trying this year, the Orioles aren't. I don't think a salary floor achieves much
CardsFanatic
5:46
I’ve heard rumors of a Harrison Bader. I don’t think this is likely, but what are your thoughts and what could be the potential return?
Anthony Franco
5:47
I think he'd bring back a lot but I have no reason to believe the Cardinals would move him
Reds fan
5:47
Reds' outfield? An add is a must...Pham? Beatty? Anyone else?
Anthony Franco
5:48
They're another team that feels like they could use a center fielder but there really isn't anyone out there. I guess you could sign Pham and kick Fraley to center, but Pham-Fraley-Naquin has the potential to be pretty rough defensively
Brady
5:48
How much of an impact will the likely bad defense have in Philly?
Anthony Franco
5:49
Enough that I wouldn't have them as a top-six team in the NL, even if I understand why they're doing what they're doing
larry
5:49
if the reds trade Castillo or Mahle, it seems, based on their recent transactions, that they will unload a large contract in order to reduce payroll.{someone like Moose}.  Is this the right move, or should they try to maximize their return by not attaching a large contract to their offer?
Anthony Franco
5:50
They're not trading either of those guys in the next couple weeks, but it's a weird line to draw in my view
5:51
As currently constructed, they're not a playoff team. They don't feel they have enough payroll flexibility to get significantly better. Not entertaining offers on Castillo and Mahle doesn't make much sense, since you're probably just burning half a year of control in a season where you're not going to compete anyhow
Crazy Ms Loyal
5:52
Is Ms starting rotation really that of a contender without a trade for a 2/3 piece?
Anthony Franco
5:52
It's a little risky to rely so heavily on the younger guys, but I think both Brash and Kirby will be good from Day One so I'm fine with it
Cubsman
5:53
Could you point to a resource to better understand the latest trends with the player and team approach to arbitration? Twitter was aflame yesterday over Contreras/Cubs going to an arb hearing. But many players and teams are going over much smaller differences (more than I recall in the past.) Is there a new strategy from one or both sides? Is it really a sign of a problem between a team and player? How distracting and time consuming is it for a player?
Anthony Franco
5:53
I'm sure it varies by player and some guys really do get ticked off by going to hearings and listening to team reps bad-mouth them
5:54
But I think generally, that kind of outcry over arb is overstated. They're haggling over a small amount of money, and I think players mostly understand that
Matt
5:54
Any chance the Dodgers could be in on Frankie Montas? I would assume that with how many teams have shown interest the price may be higher than we think. Do you think Michael Busch for Montas gets it done? Or maybe Busch and Beeter?
Anthony Franco
5:55
I think Busch and Beeter is close, probably needs a third piece. Wouldn't peg the Dodgers as the favorite but certainly can't rule them out on any good player
Jeff
5:55
What kind of deal do you think Trea Turner will get this off-season?
Anthony Franco
5:56
Eight or nine years at a Seager AAV, assuming he has another MVP-caliber season
Astros
5:56
What position is weakest on Astros roster atm that you think will require a summer deal to fill void?
Anthony Franco
5:57
Shortstop is really the only question mark, in my view. They think Pena could seize that, and maybe he can
5:58
But if he doesn't, I expect they'll try to upgrade over Goodrum/Díaz midseason. Otherwise, might just add a bullpen arm or two
Ricky Vaughn
5:58
Is there a date for Conforto when the compensatory pick goes away during the season?
Anthony Franco
5:58
After the draft
Tim Larson
5:59
What team is Aaron Judge playing for in 2023…
Anthony Franco
5:59
I think he'll sign an extension
Cohen
5:59
With all the rumors of the Mets moving one of Smith, Davis, or McNeil, nothing happened. Do they start the season on the Mets?
