How many teams from the AL East make it into the playoffs you think?
Anthony Franco
4:49
Three
Southside Sox
4:49
I think the White Sox still need to add a SP.  Who do you think is the most realistic option either via trade or free agency?
Anthony Franco
4:50
I could see them as one of like 10-12 teams that could toss a few million dollars at Cueto
He and Brett Anderson are pretty much it as far as remaining free agent starters though
Playoffs
4:51
If the top teams get a bye, can both byes come from same division?
Anthony Franco
4:51
No, top two division winners in each league get the bye

Does Torkelson make the Tigers and play everyday?
Anthony Franco
4:52
I kind of lean yes on the Tigers guys breaking camp. Maybe I'm being naive, but I believe Avila when he said they wouldn't hold Greene and Tork back for service reasons
4:53
And with Torkelson in particular, I don't know how you argue the Tigers are a better team with Schoop at first and Harold Castro at second base or whatever
Zak

What's the story on Cueto? I think he was suppose to sign with the Twins, but haven't heard anything official yet
Anthony Franco
4:53
That report seems like it was premature. I'm guessing Archer rules the Twins out on Cueto

Who had the more frustrating offseason of the two: Guardians or Reds?
Anthony Franco
4:54
Those two and the A's would probably be the three teams I'd point to as having the toughest offseason. I guess I'd say the Guardians was a little worse than Cincinnati's since they at least pivoted back and did some stuff at the end
4:55
But yeah, I thought they were both rough and don't see either as a playoff team this year

What does a judge extension look like? 5/180?
Anthony Franco
4:56
I'd go over on years and total but under on average annual value. Something in the 7/200 range seems more likely to me

An extension for Bogie  and devers coming ? thoughts
Anthony Franco
4:56
I doubt they extend both players. Devers kinda feels likelier to me at this point. I'd lean Bogaerts just opting out and leaving, with Story kicking back over to shortstop in 2023

Are we getting 28 man rosters?  If so, do you think that some teams might choose to not got with a full 28?
Anthony Franco
4:57
We're getting 28 for about three weeks. Every team will carry 28

Should the season be reduced 10-12 games? It could result in longer playoffs.
Anthony Franco
4:58
If you wanted to go 154 games for the regular season, make the Division Series best of 7 and the World Series a best of 9, I'd be cool with it

If, and I repeat IF, the Nats cannot extend Soto wouldn't it make sense to deal him now? He would be at max value trade wise to the Nats with him having 3 more years of control, and the Nats are without question one of the 8 worst teams this year. That means for 1/3 of the time left with the Nats he is meaningless in terms of winning/competing. And unless they do a lot in free agency next offseason, the 2023 season looks bleak as well. That would make 67% of his time remaining with the Nats worthless in terms of competing for playoffs. I know he's unbelievable, a fan favorite, and one of the best there is, but in terms of the outlook of the Nats I think it makes the most sense. Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:59
Man, I get what you're saying, but I think it's a little premature. Even if you started shopping him next winter or at the 2023 deadline, he'd have so much trade value
5:00
I'd rather just load up and try to be good again by 2023. I was really surprised by how little the Nats did on the pitching side this offseason

Is Cruz a mid season trade candidate?
Anthony Franco
5:00
Yeah I think he's getting moved if he's hitting
Which he probably will be because he's incredible

What are your thoughts on Pete Alonso’s “slow start” to spring training.
Anthony Franco
5:01
Didn't even know he was having a slow start. Don't pay attention to anyone's Spring Training stats, they're virtually meaningless
5:02
Health matters in the spring, nothing else does IMO

Will Oniel Cruz be the every day SS once the he is back in the show?
Anthony Franco
5:03
Yeah I think so. I honestly think they should move Ke'Bryan Hayes to shortstop this year and see what happens, but I don't expect them to
The next best thing is just to let Cruz play there and see if he can handle it
5:04
If he's bad there, who cares? The Pirates are going to be terrible either way. It's far more important to see if Cruz can be your shortstop of the future for when you're trying to get better in 2023-24

IIRC, Swanson and Freeman have the same agent. Could that affect how aggressively the Braves try to resign Dansby, or does it make little difference?
Anthony Franco
5:05
Excel Sports Management represents dozens of players. It's among the biggest agencies in MLB. I don't think the Freeman stuff affects Swanson at all

Will the rule changes that are due to be implemented next season have a major impact on the way that teams are evaluating players?
Anthony Franco
5:06
I think restrictions on the shift will eventually bring back a few more power-hitting lefty bats. I'm more curious about the effect the automatic strike zone -- whenever it happens, might not be 2023 -- will have on roster construction
