If you're assuming they put the current version of Yordan out there and he costs them around 15-20 runs on defense, then I think it's like 4-5 wins

any worries about the Mariners so far? Or do people need to chill because it's still so early in the season?
Anthony Franco
12:29
Not concerned

What is Trevor Larnach’s ceiling? He has shown flashes of excellent hitting and good defense when he has been healthy. Not to mention that he was once a top 100 prospect. Solid middle of the order bat perhaps?
Anthony Franco
12:31
Yeah I think that's in there. Good plate discipline, hits the ball really hard. Needs to get the ball off the ground a little more consistently but the offensive pedigree throughout college and the minors was good enough I don't see that as unreasonable

Any thoughts or observations about the impact of rule changes over the first 4-5 games of the season?  My impression is that players seem to have adjusted and there has been less impact than some people worried about, other than the quicker pace of play.
Anthony Franco
12:32
I've been really happy with it so far. The pace of game was the biggest thing for me and that's been a tangible difference already. Baserunning has been a little more active, which is cool
12:33
Batting average on balls in play is also up a bit, which probably has something to do with the shift restriction. That's a nice start but I think we need a few years to gauge the effect of that one because teams are going to construct their rosters differently in response to the shift limitations than they have previously

How early do the Mets make a move with Verlander going to the IL and Carrasco and MeGill having rough outings?
Anthony Franco
12:34
There's nothing to do right now. They signed Dylan Bundy to a minor league deal a couple weeks ago, that's about it. Otherwise they just have to ride it out for a while
12:35
Peterson/Megill seems like fine depth to me and Verlander could be back in a few weeks. If things get to the point where they need to trade for an impactful starter, they'll check in on the market, but that isn't happening in April

12:36
Who are the top relievers likely to be available at the trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
12:37
Scott Barlow should be out there. Alex Lange perhaps. White Sox could move Reynaldo López if they fall out of contention
Charlie O
12:37
With Torkelson struggling again, I know that the Tigers are giving him a long leash, but is it time for them to worry?
Anthony Franco
12:38
Nah, it's been four games

Good late-night from Cambodia! My Bombers look really sharp at this incredibly early stage -- not even statistically, more eye-test kinda sharp. If they're neck-and-neck at the top of the division in July, paint me a realistic TD scenario given that their backs are hard up against the third tier threshold of the CBT?
Anthony Franco
12:38
I would've taken the under on 0.5 people chatting from Phnom Penh
12:40
They're up against the fourth CBT tier, which doesn't have any additional draft or qualifying offer penalties. Going past $293MM increases their taxes on any money they acquire, but that fees like something ownership would be content with if it moves the needle in a tight division race. I have a hard time believing that's the cap for the entire season
12:43
If we assume they're just unwilling to take on any spending though, then there's not a whole lot they can do at the deadline. Could add another pre-arb reliever who's having a breakout season, as they did with Scott Effross last year. I guess there's some chance they pry a pre-arb starter like Matt Manning but it'd require a pretty significant prospect package for a player who might not be a huge upgrade over someone like Jhony Brito
A's rotation
12:43
The rotation has taken a Beating in these first 4 games.  Seller's remorse on trading away LHP Cole Irvin ?  Anytime you Score 11 Runs a team should be able to Win that game.
Anthony Franco
12:43
They wouldn't have traded Irvin if they thought they were going to be competitive this year
12:45
They're fully amidst a rebuild, got a very interesting infield prospect in Darrell Hernaiz, so they pulled the trigger. Oakland's rotation is really bad and they're just in for a rough season altogether. I'm sure it's frustrating to lose 12-11 but they're in for a bunch of tough losses this year
STL
12:45
Cards' lineup is looking incredibly deep early on. Is one of their outfielders traded for a starter by mid-summer?
Anthony Franco
12:45
Yeah consolidating the upper level outfield depth for a starter feels like it'll be a deadline priority
Rocco Rox
12:46
arent there any pitchers out there better than seabold, urena & feltner for the rockies?
Anthony Franco
12:46
Similar situation as Oakland. They could've more aggressively pursued rotation help this winter but they're just not going to be good either way
12:47
Colorado's not truly rebuilding the way the A's are obviously, but they're not one pitcher away from being good and they were up against it from a payroll perspective. Dipping into a meaningful tier in free agency or trading minor league talent for a significant rotation upgrade was never going to be in the cards

Are Vargas and Outman legit? Seems like they are playing as everyday starters and potentially even more?
Anthony Franco
12:50
All in on Vargas, completely buy the bat. I like Outman as a power/defense platoon center fielder. Valuable player, particularly on the strong side of the platoon, but I don't know that he'll hit lefties consistently enough to be a true regular
Orioles
12:50
If we can hover around .500 by the deadline do you expect us to go out and get that frontline guy? 4 games in and its become very obvious the Orioles need that guy
Anthony Franco
12:51
Probably need to be a little above .500 to do that, more clearly within the Wild Card mix. But yeah, if they're occupying or just a game or two outside the playoff picture in late July, it's time to push in for a real rotation upgrade
12:53
I thought they'd do more to address the rotation this offseason. They added Gibson and Irvin, which is fine, but didn't play above that. Those guys weren't really available in trade over the winter and the free agent market for mid-tier starters skyrocketed, so it's understandable. But the deadline should spur a little more aggressiveness on that front if the team earns an upgrade by hanging around

Hi Anthony. In light of Altuve’s injury at the WBC, do you think the three batter rule should be changed? DeRosa should’ve had the option to pull Bard, after the first two batters reached base.
Anthony Franco
12:54
I don't think it's a problem. Unfortunate that Altuve got hurt but that could well happen on the first or second batter if a pitcher can't find his mechanics
Rockstar GM
12:54
Next (not Soto) Padre to sign an extension? I gotta say, it's a lot easier to decide to buy a jersey of a guy that I know is gonna be around for years.
Anthony Franco
12:55
Hader feels like the obvious one. Hasn't been any public chatter on Snell, who's the big other impending free agent
Ha-Seong Kim could work too. No real hurry with him under contract for two more years, and they've already got a ton of infield depth locked up forever. But hey, that's never stopped Preller before

The Blue Jays have a ton of money tied up in their rotation and somehow it's full of question marks right now. Is this an issue of identification, or just random bad luck?
