It sort of seems that way, but even then, you're just bringing back the same kind of offense people bemoaned from like 2015-21
5:24
Only being able to score on homers is preferable to never scoring at all, but the fundamental issue is that pitching has, by and large, gotten too good for hitters to consistently make contact
5:25
Juicing the ball isn't going to fix that, and I don't know that there are any easy solutions

5:25
How much longer until Harris or waters gets a look in CF?  Duvall is not hitting the ball well at all.
Anthony Franco
5:26
I don't know that either of those guys you mentioned would be any better. Waters struck out a ton in Triple-A last year; Harris has 28 games above A-ball. I think Duvall's still the better player right now

Does Ahmed Rosario have any value in the trade market? If Zimmer pulled a usable relief pitcher, could Ahmed bring a good reliever?
Anthony Franco
5:28
I think he'd also pull a Castro-type middle reliever. Offensive output has always been streaky because the approach is so bad, defensive metrics have never liked him at short, and he's off to a rough start
Someone would take a shot on the physical upside, but on a $5MM arb salary with only one more season of control, I don't think there's a ton of trade value there

Dinelson Lamet for Dom Smith, who says no?
Anthony Franco

Padres

Frankie Montas to the Cards for Gorman and Juan Yepez…who says no?

Cardinals
A's 2022 Re-build
5:29
Painful now, but 2023-26 has potential?
Anthony Franco
5:30
Yeah I don't even really consider it a rebuild. They wanted to save money, so they moved all their expensive players with any value. But they brought back a bunch of high minors guys and kept their cheaper productive big leaguers like Murphy and Laureano
5:31
I don't actually think they'll be that bad in 2023, and a return to legitimate contention by '24 feels very doable

5:31
Technically, shouldn't all foul-tips be an out regardless of count?
Anthony Franco
5:32
Nah, I think a foul tip is just a whiff
Brian Cashman
5:32
If Judge stays consistent in his performance moving forward, what’s his contract look like in FA?
Anthony Franco
5:33
Rendon money (7/245) feels like a reasonable target if he hits the market on the heels of a typical Judge year
Ben
5:33
Do you put any stock into the theory that MLB juices the balls for nationally broadcast games?
Anthony Franco
5:34
No I don't think they have that fine of control over the ball even if they wanted to
Eaton Cox
5:34
Which Cubbies do you think will be on the block this trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
5:35
Contreras, Happ, Miley and basically any of the guys they signed to one-year deals last winter who are performing vaguely well
5:36
I think we'll hear some rumors about Hendricks too but I'm not sure the demand will meet what they need to part with a player they've had for a while whom they can keep around in 2023
Dave
5:36
Is Yadiel Hernandez the Nats’ DH of the future? He’s hitting like they probably expected Cruz to.
Anthony Franco
5:37
I buy him as a decent hitter but he's also almost 35 years old. Don't think he's a long-term piece of the retool
Zo
5:38
When would you realistically expect Triston Casas to get the call? He’s been hitting well in AAA recently after a mini slump in late April, but only has 40 games in AAA. Is before the ASB a pipe dream?
Anthony Franco
5:38
I don't think that's crazy, I'm honestly a little surprised they haven't done this already. How long can you let Dalbec play like the worst first baseman in the league before you shake it up?
Bob Dylan
5:39
Assuming the Yankees keep it going, what do they need at the trade deadline ?
Anthony Franco
5:40
I think they'll be in the market for a better offensive catcher. I'm sure they'd like some additional starting pitcher depth to guard against durability concerns for Taillon/Severino and potential regression from Nestor
5:41
But that's pretty much luxury buys around the margins. It's a really strong team as is

5:41
Any hope left for Kelenic? Dude looks lost at the plate
Anthony Franco
5:42
The hope is in his minor league production and the fact that he's still 22. The MLB performance has been awful and I expected better by this point, but it's too early to bury him entirely

5:42
Should Bluejays fans be concerned with the start of their season
Anthony Franco
5:43
I'd be a little concerned that the Yankees look awesome and now have a six-game cushion in the division, but other than that, no
5:45
Bo should come around. Losing Teoscar for a few weeks and having to play Tapia everyday hurt, but Hernández is back now. It's weird that José Berríos has been bad but it's still early enough I'm not really sweating it
C Bloom
5:45
Good afternoon Anthony, With the way my team has started. Should I be worried about my job? What should I do to try and fix this mess?
Anthony Franco
5:45
I've gotten a few questions about whether the Red Sox would fire Chaim Bloom, their chief baseball officer. I can't see that happening this quickly after they were in the ALCS
5:47
I know they replaced Cherington pretty quickly after he led them to a World Series, but that always felt more about getting a chance to bring in Dave Dombrowski than John Henry just having a really quick trigger finger
Kim Ng
5:47
I’m bad at my job, when should I expect to be relieved of duties?
