I can't see the Scherzer $43MM AAV, but topping Cole's $36MM feel doable
6:10
So maybe two for like 75-80?
Timothy
6:10
Does it upset you watching a player take a base on balls and the commentator says it was a very good at bat?
Anthony Franco
6:11
Because walks are boring or because a walk isn't technically an at-bat? I don't have any issue praising walks, and "at-bat" just sounds a little less clunky than "plate appearance" so I think it's fine
Nick
6:12
German Marquez. Will he turn it around?
Anthony Franco
6:12
Yeah I think so. The velocity's still there, track record's too good for me to bet against him
6:13
It's weird that he's not missing bats in the zone right now but I don't see any glaring changes in his arsenal that would suggest he's actually bad now
That’s it, Fort Pitt
6:14
How’d the Pirates take a series from the Dodgers? I’m a Pirates fan, but I still don’t have a clue how they did it.
Anthony Franco
6:14
Baseball's random
Noah
6:15
Could David Peterson be traded to a pitching needy team at the deadline once DeGrom comes back? He’s pitched great and doesn’t seem to have a spot in the near future for the Mets. Sell high point?
Anthony Franco
6:15
I think there's enough health uncertainty with the guys in front of him on the depth chart they're likelier to just keep him around
Alex A
6:16
Myles Straw to the Braves, so Duvall can go back to LF where he seems to hit better.
Anthony Franco
6:16
Guardians just signed Straw to a five-year extension last month. He's not getting dealt
RAGBRAI
6:16
Stott, Thomas,Yepez, etc. who of the recent call ups has the best year?
Anthony Franco
6:17
I'm most bullish on Alek Thomas out of that trio
Navin R. Johnson

With Hosmer's salary going down to $13M, but the AAV remaining the same, what does that do to Hosmer's trade value? Thanks Anthony.
Anthony Franco
6:18
It's a little more feasible to see this kind of deal come together under the new CBA, which recalculates the luxury tax hit of a traded player to only encompass what remains of his current deal. So Hosmer's CBT bill for a potential acquiring team isn't crazy after this year
6:19
That feels like a next offseason thing though. Trading Hosmer midseason during a win-now year when he's been one of your best hitters would be a real blow to the clubhouse
Tom Terrific
6:20
Which starting pitcher would you choose in a "must win" game?
Anthony Franco
6:20
If deGrom's healthy, then him. If not, probably Scherzer
Jim C
6:21
Has Bieber already passed his peak?
Anthony Franco
6:21
He's probably never going to have a 1.63 ERA over a full season, but I don't think his days as an ace are behind him or anything
6:23
He's coming off a major shoulder injury and his stuff hasn't yet come all the way back. Doesn't seem far-fetched to think that'll build as he gets further removed from the injury

When does Juan Soto get traded?
Anthony Franco
6:24
Can't see this as a realistic possibility until the 2023 trade deadline at the earliest
Still feels like the Nats are going to gear up for another run while Soto's around (as they should)
Guest
6:25
Would Soto have the largest haul as a trade?
Anthony Franco
6:26
I think it'd probably be Wander Franco? He might already be a top ten position player and he's signed for more than a decade
6:27
Soto would be up there obviously. Acuna, José Ramírez, Tatís, Ohtani, Vlad, etc. all would bring back unimaginable hauls
And are obviously not getting traded
Roel
6:27
Do the Astros trade for an offensive catcher?
Anthony Franco
6:29
They probably should, even if just as a complement to Maldonado. Obviously they love him as a staff leader and defensive presence, but it'd be nice to have a better hitter than Castro as an option in late innings if the team is trailing and needs to lean into offense

Do you have a favorite broadcaster?
Anthony Franco
6:29
Joe Davis and Gary Cohen are up there
Concerned White Sox Fan
6:29
How sustainable do you think Dylan Cease's start has been?
Anthony Franco
6:30
I buy like 85% of it. No pitcher can maintain a HR/9 of 0.26, so he's going to give up a few more runs on the longball
6:31
But a strikeout rate in the 35% range and an ERA below 3.00 feels about right to me. I think he broke out as an ace last year and is (almost) just this good now
Gwynning
6:31
Thanks for the long chat, Anthony. Enjoy your week!!
Anthony Franco
6:32
Thanks, you as well!
I do have to wrap up since we're over 90 minutes here and I have a Twins' roster move to cover before their game starts tonight
