Will we see Ethan Small this year
Anthony Franco
4:59
Yeah, probably in relief or maybe the Ashby-style hybrid role, but he'll be up

Would Conforto take a 5 yr/$70M contract with incentives to boost the total to say $100M this season? I guess $1M upfront while he recovers.
Anthony Franco
5:00
Probably but no one would offer that now
Jindoclese

What do you think of the proliferation of coaches on a team.  5-6 used to be common once upon a time.
Anthony Franco
5:01
I think it's fine. MLB could legislate it, I guess, but I don't see any compelling reason to do so
5:02
From a team's perspective, there's a ton of work to go around. Coaches, scouts, analysts, etc. are making a relative pittance compared to the amount of money clubs are both bringing in and spending on players. No reason not to cast a wide net in hiring those people then
Brewers fan Ronny
5:02
Do you think Brewers make a move this trade deadline
Anthony Franco
5:02
Yeah I think they'll look for a little more offensive help. I wonder if they'd look at Benintendi as a center field option
5:03
He hasn't played there in a couple years and probably wouldn't be very good. But the rest of the center field trade market isn't likely to be good (maybe aside from his teammate Michael Taylor), and the defensive concerns aren't as big an issue for a team with a pitching staff that strikes everybody out
5:04
Plus you'd have Cain as a late-game bench option for defensive purposes
Josh
5:04
Do you see the Twins trading for a frontline starter like Montas or Castillo at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
5:04
I think they'll be in that mix, but there aren't many to go around (maybe just those two plus Mahle) and no shortage of teams to bid against
HTown
5:05
What should the Astros go after at the deadline if they're in contention by then
Anthony Franco
5:05
Yeah they don't need much. Maybe another reliever just to stockpile depth but that's about it
5:06
A better #2 catcher than Castro would probably be ideal but I don't know if that guy's out there and don't think they'd want to replace Maldonado as the #1 guy given how special he is at the game-calling/leadership stuff
Curious
5:07
Where are the Mets and Dodger reviews?
Anthony Franco
5:08
Wrapping that within the next couple days, Mets will probably be up tonight. Series dragged on longer than was ideal obviously, but the lockout forced us to start late and we've been juggling some behind-the-scenes personal stuff
Jindoclese
5:08
Do the Jays need to add a cf and move Springer to a corner?
Anthony Franco
5:09
I don't think they want to do that. It kind of pigeon-holes Teoscar at DH then and doesn't leave a ton of flexibility to get someone like Kirk into the lineup
Twins
5:10
What right handed bats that can play first would be available on the trade market?
Anthony Franco
5:10
Josh Bell's a switch-hitter but he's the big one. Trey Mancini, Christian Walker's having a decent season, Jesús Aguilar if the Marlins fall out of it
Ray Charles
5:11
Home plate umps ability to correctly call balls and strikes is worse than ever, agree?
Anthony Franco
5:11
Nah, go back and watch the Eric Gregg game. The guys today, by and large, are good
Josh
5:11
Can Joe Ryan develop into a No. 1 starter minus a power fastball?
Anthony Franco
5:12
That's too lofty for me. He throws a ton of fastballs at the top of the strike zone, really commands it well and misses bats but I think he's going to be pretty home-run prone
5:13
A deader ball probably helps him more than most, but I still think he's more of a #3 than a top-end starter. Still an excellent pickup for a couple months of Nelson Cruz and a really good player
Paul Blackburn
5:13
Are we buying my renovation as a pitcher?
Anthony Franco
5:14
I admittedly haven't paid enough attention to the Paul Blackburn breakout. He's throwing a little harder right now, missing more bats, so I'm kind of in
5:15
Not in the sense that I buy him as a true talent 2.00 ERA guy obviously. But as a back-end starter? I think so
Gern Blanston
5:15
What's the most likely  position for the Yankees to upgrade?
Anthony Franco
5:16
Rotation depth feels like the big concern to me. It's been great so far, but they've benefitted from perfect health of that top five. Particularly if Gil's now out for the foreseeable future, injuries could take a toll there
5:17
I would still like to see them get a better catcher but maybe they're content with what they've got because the rest of the lineup's mashing. I don't know where else they could reasonably upgrade
Hicks isn't hitting but the center field market is barren, so there's probably nobody better available
Christian
5:18
Do you think the Mets trade Davis and Dom Smith at the deadline or keep them as depth?
Anthony Franco
5:18
I think it's likelier than not one of those guys is dealt for help elsewhere on the roster midseason
Cashmoney
5:19
What's Judge contract look like now? $/Years?
Anthony Franco
5:19
I'd probably have him a bit above Rendon money (7/245) right now. Was under that at the start of the year but he's obviously been fantastic
Could see him at like 7/275 if he maintains MVP caliber performance all year

Is Jordan Lyles pitching well enough to be traded this summer?
