I never really know who isn't getting "talked about," but my guess is somebody like Houston or St. Louis who's just good every year

Aaron Ashby is tough for me to figure out...one game he's a Sandy Koufax clone and the next a batting practice pitcher. Everything I read suggests he will be special but even his minor league stats don't reflect the stud some predict. So are evaluators using more of an eye test on the young man over statistics?
Anthony Franco
5:59
I think he's mostly been as advertised. The stuff is incredible, but he doesn't have great control and it's going to lead to inconsistency
6:01
There aren't many pitchers who get Ashby's combination of swing-and-miss and ground balls, which is where the ability to be elite flashes. But he also works himself into trouble with walks and probably won't be efficient enough from a pitch count perspective to work too deep into most games
Still would love to have him on my team, to be clear
Dayton Moore

Dayton Moore here, are we going to moved Bennie, Whit and Keller???

Benintendi's going. Don't think there'll be enough appeal with Keller they get an offer that motivates them, can't see them trading Merrifield at this point
6:03
After holding Whit throughout the entire rebuild, it'd be really weird to just dump him when he's having the worst season of his career and his value's at its lowest ebb
Pad Squad

What bat should SD add? Happ? Bell? Benintendi?
Anthony Franco
6:03
Happ would be a great fit from a roster perspective but I don't know they have the financial room
6:04
They're right up against the base CBT marker and don't seem to want to go over. Could try to get the Cubs to eat all the money for a better prospect return, but that's usually easier said than done
6:05
Cubs did it for the Yankees with Rizzo last year for whatever that's worth

Tale as old as time. Manfred said that Tampa and Oakland need to figure out their stadium situations. We are going to be hearing the same thing five years from now, aren't we?
Anthony Franco
6:06
They'll be resolved by then

Is it just me or does it feel like there are very few big names to be had at the deadline this year?
Anthony Franco
6:07
Yeah it feels pretty light this year, particularly on the position player side
6:08
We'll see though. If Bryan Reynolds and Sean Murphy end up moving or something, it'd be pretty exciting. I think it's mostly a function of the top impending FA's (aside from Contreras) being on contenders

I’m Trevor Rogers, do I figure it out for a solid second half, or do I end up in the minors ?
Anthony Franco
6:10
I did a full breakdown on Rogers for Front Office subscribers three weeks ago. Haven't checked back since but the TLDR version at the time was that he seemed like he changed his position on the mound and dropped the release point on his secondary stuff
6:11
Not sure the reason, but I think he's just a little out of whack mechanically right now. Disappointing start but it's likelier he gets back to last year's form than is so bad he gets demoted

What does the AZ OF look like with Kelly back.  Who does Varsho take time from?  Is someone sent down? A trade?
Anthony Franco
6:12
Pavin Smith's not hitting and still has options, feels like the odd man out there
Franco Anthony

Why do you think that a trade of Murphy would be "excitong"? Guess I don't get the love for this guy. Solid glove but can't hit. Lots of strong defensive catchers put there...
Anthony Franco
6:13
I get your point but the state of catching is so bad right now that Murphy's still an offensive upgrade for a bunch of teams
6:14
Alright we're pushing an hour and a half here so I have to get going
Franco Anthony
6:14
Hey, that was the question you missed on Twitter last week so thank you!
Anthony Franco
6:15
Ha glad to hear it
As I always mention, you can throw stuff at me on Twitter @affranco10 and I'll (typically) get back to you
6:16
Apologies on all the stuff I couldn't get to today, appreciate all the questions
I also run a chat exclusive to Front Office subscribers weekly and get to basically everything in there since the queues are much smaller
Our membership also offers weekly analysis from myself and Steve, as well as fantasy-specific posts/chats with Brad
There's a link to our sign-up page if anyone's interested
We'll do this again next week, have a good one!
