I'll take the field. Mets beat has kind of downplayed that possibility, Astros seem to love Maldonado. Guardians and Rays are strong fits but have enough payroll concerns I'd pick elsewhere

Is Laureano to the Rays for Vidal Brujan too much?
Anthony Franco
4:43
Yeah I don't think the Rays would do it

I see fans calling for the Twins to trade Correa since they have zero chance of keeping him past this year, baring a massive injury.  That seems so silly to me.  Even if they are massive underdogs in the playoffs you take your shot with the best possible players.  Get the rotation healthy, trade for a few bullpen arms, and slot Arraez/Buxton/Correa 1-3... that is not a bad team to take into the playoffs.  Get hot any anything can happen
Anthony Franco
4:43
Yeah they're not trading Correa

Is Groshans a possibility as part of a package for Benintendi and Barlow
Anthony Franco
4:44
Yeah that feels workable

After reading Adams article, will it help both clubs if Snell and Hasell are swapped for Verdugo and either seabold or winckowski?
Anthony Franco
4:46
That'd save them the money but the Padres aren't going to give up Hassell with the way Verdugo has played this year

If MLB continues using baseballs that don’t carry as far past this season do you think we’ll see more guys attempt to hit line drives or will they stick to the home run approach?
Anthony Franco
4:48
There'll be a little more emphasis on contact but the bigger issue than hitter swing planes is the explosion of pitcher velocity and movement over the past few years. I don't know how you reverse that

Any chance you see the White Sox become sellers after their horrible play so far?  Maybe look for a Giolito trade as he has turned down their offers for a long term contract.
Anthony Franco
4:49
They'll buy barring an absolutely awful July, and I can't see them trading controllable players like Giolito either way. Even if they fall out of it this year, they
They'll probably chalk it up to injuries and go for it again in 2023

Advanced metrics have given insight to hitting (launch angle, exit velocity), pitching (spin rate), and defense (shifts).  What's the next area for analytics?  Player health/performance?  That seems harder to quantify but you see something like the Twins resting Buxton regularly and he's producing and staying healthy.  Can you quantify Nelson Cruz's napping routine? lol
Anthony Franco
4:52
Yeah I think injury stuff will be a huge concern. If you could (somewhat) accurately predict which pitchers are best equipped to throw 200+ innings per season, etc., that's a pretty big advantage
4:53
I also think there's more room for matchup-specific deployment of players in games. Rather than relying on strict left-right platoons, matching up hitters with certain swing paths against specific pitchers, etc.
4:54
Teams are already doing that stuff to some extent, but some are probably better than others at quantifying and actualizing it
Alright everyone, wish I could stick around for a while longer but I have to run to get some stuff on the site
4:55
Thanks for chatting, apologies for all the stuff I couldn't get to
I also run a Front Office chat each week in which I answer most or all of the questions asked
4:56
That's part of the perks of our Front Office memberships, which you read more about here
You can also throw stuff at me on Twitter @affranco10 throughout the week
Have a good one!
