Joe Maddon
3:21
Why wasn't I given more leeway?  I'm a WS winning manager.
Anthony Franco
3:22
Yeah, sometimes you just need to change things up for its own sake. Can't speak to what was going on behind the scenes between the front office and Maddon, but the results obviously haven't been there lately
Mike
3:22
Do you see the White Sox making a trade for a 2b or RF  before the deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:23
Yeah second base is a must. Harrison and Leury felt like a pretty weak combination going in and it hasn't worked at all
3:24
Mariners could move Adam Frazier, maybe someone like Brandon Drury or Kyle Farmer as a stopgap?
Big P
3:25
Franchy Cordero.  Is he for real or is the just a temporary mirage?
Anthony Franco
3:25
I don't buy him as a regular. He's obviously very physically gifted but there's just too much swing-and-miss
Topo Chico
3:25
Brewers need pen help and probably a bat. Who do you see as viable options? Stearns usually keeps it pretty humble as far as trade candidates.
Anthony Franco
3:26
I think they should seriously consider trading for Benintendi and moving him back to center field for two months
3:27
Could just go Jordan Luplow as a righty-hitting corner guy to replace McCutchen if they're leaning more conservative, but then you're left with one of Cain or Taylor playing regularly
Mark
3:27
Will the Rangers be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:28
They'll probably straddle a middle-ground where they move an impending free agent like Pérez while exploring the possibility of adding a big leaguer with more contractual control
3:29
I don't think they're an eschpeially viable playoff threat this season, but they're targeting 2023 as a legitimate contention window
White Sox just claimed Parker Markel off waivers. Give me two minutes to throw a headline up on that
3:31
Alright I'm back
Cody
3:32
What should the Cardinals be looking at adding at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:33
Could look into corner outfield help since neither Dickerson nor Carlson were hitting even before they got hurt. Pitching generally also, particularly at the back of the rotation
weastwood
3:34
Rumors on the radio yesterday was Merrifield to the Padres. Would that help and at what cost?
Anthony Franco
3:34
Kansas City has basically never given real thought to moving Whit, even as they'd been amidst a rebuild for a while
3:35
I can't see them selling low on him now, since they're going to want to contend in 2023
O’s fan
3:35
Any Orioles relievers you see as trade candidates?  Most are controllable.
Anthony Franco
3:36
Jorge López feels like the likeliest. He's already arb-eligible, performing better in the new role, had some prospect pedigree that kept getting him looks
Would they listen on, say Felix Bautista? Probably, but I doubt there'll be enough interest they get an offer they feel compelled to take
BigW
3:37
Better chance?MJ Melendez to Houston for Hunter Brown and PTL or Contreras to Houston for a couple mid level starter types and a Mcormick/Siri
Anthony Franco
3:37
The latter, I guess, but I don't think Houston's going to view catcher as a huge need. They've continued bringing Maldonado back knowing he can't hit because of how much they value his defense and intangibles
3:38
I actually think first base is the more interesting call there. What do they do with Yuli?
Jayjay
3:39
Will Kirk be an all-star catcher in 2022?
Anthony Franco
3:40
He'd be my vote at the moment. Him or Jonah Heim, I guess
Braves fan
3:40
What does Swanson contract look like after the season.
Anthony Franco
3:40
We kicked this around a lot during prep for the Free Agent Power Rankings, since we had Swanson on there initially and eventually talked ourselves down on him
3:41
There's an argument for nine figures. Plus defender, has some power, plays everyday. Just a slam-dunk regular
3:42
But I think he's more in like the 4/80 bucket personally. He's never had an elite offensive season, and he's swinging and missing a fair amount this year
Ruban Amaro
3:43
The phillies firing Girardi the reason they are winning or just dumb luck?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Probably just a coincidence
Ty
3:43
Anyone in the College Baseball playoffs you were impressed by?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Generally? Tennessee, obviously. Specifically at regionals? Probably Arkansas
3:44
I didn't get to watch any of Notre Dame's games, but they ran through a regional I thought would be pretty tough as well
Ruban Amaro
3:44
Odds four teams  make thr playoffs out of the AL east?
Anthony Franco
3:45
Still pretty low. Requires none of the White Sox, Angels or Mariners bouncing back
Or the Twins falling apart, I guess
