What happened to Randall Grichuck, he started off great, has fallen off, what do you think the rest of the year holds for him?
Anthony Franco
3:46
Just regressing towards his recent track record. The Jays soured on him because his approach is pretty rough
Same ol Mets
3:47
Any injury updates on Alonso or Marte?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Not yet. Khalil Lee's joining the team in San Diego so I'm guessing Marte will end up on the IL, but they haven't finalized anything there
Could just stash Lee on the taxi squad for a couple days to monitor Marte's progress

B. Woodruff is currently on the shelf, but scuffled before the high ankle sprain. Should we expect to see his ace-like performance of yore upon his return?
Anthony Franco
3:48
Yeah I should probably take a deeper look into Woodruff's numbers and see if I can find any reason he wasn't himself, but everything seems broadly fine
3:49
Velocity's still there, swinging strikes are intact, walks are fine. Giving up a few more fly balls and homers but I'm not really concerned
Dave
3:49
Josh Bell for Keston Hiura. Who says no?
Anthony Franco
3:50
Interesting concept but I doubt the Nats do it with how much Hiura's still striking out
3:51
I do generally like the idea of Washington targeting nearer-term players in their deadline deals, though. You've got Soto under control for two additional seasons, the 2023 roster has to be so much better than the one they're trotting out right now
Roddy
3:51
Should the Pirates actually make an effort to be competitive this year given the weakness of their division?
Anthony Franco
3:52
Nah, it's not happening this year
Morel's been awesome but you have to give him more than 21 games before you declare him a core piece
3:53
Whoops, forgot to post the question haha
Cubs fan
3:53
Can we trade away lame duck Madrigal so Morel can play 2B?
Anthony Franco
3:53
Apologies
Bye bye Al Avila?
3:53
Al Avila has got to be on the hot seat, right? Bad at trades, poor drafting, even with high round picks, and he's shown no creativity with filling the roster. 5 years is enough. This team is hardly improved in his time
Anthony Franco
3:54
I think they'll give him one more year. Unquestionably disappointing this season, but it's easy to point to all the rotation injuries as a partial justification (although the lineup has just been brutal)
If the team is still bad next season, he's probably in trouble
Theo's remains
3:55
I would say you haven't watched Morel. His hard hit rate, strikeout percentage, swinging strike percentage, and on base all indicate he is for real.
Anthony Franco
3:55
A player can have "earned" great results for a few weeks while still not being able to sustain them over the long term

Is player development something that can get fixed mid season? Phillies org has a lot of talented players but can't seem to churn out enough good players to make a consistent winner. Might need the young bucks this year or the next...
Anthony Franco
3:57
I don't think you're going to overhaul your player development processes (particularly at the MLB level) midseason, so much as it's just hoping that guys like Stott get more conformable with increased reps
Some Guy
3:58
Do the Guardians really have much trade bait now that they've locked up Ramirez long-term? Other than maybe a bullpen guy or something.
Anthony Franco
3:59
The starting pitchers would draw interest -- Bieber especially -- but they're basically all controllable
So yeah, if they fall out of the race this season, they'll probably just have a quiet deadline and try to make another run in '23
Billy Beane
3:59
What is a realistic return we can expect for Montas?
Anthony Franco
4:00
Twins got two Top 100 type prospects (although Austin Martin was a little divisive) for a year and a half of José Berríos last year. That feels reasonable for Montas
Chaim Bloom
4:00
Do you see the Red Sox making big moves, trades at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
4:01
Now that they're back in it, I think they'll at least look to add a couple relievers. Could try to upgrade at catcher too
4:02
First base and right field are problem areas, but they have Casas and Duran as respective internal options and Bradley's been a little bit better lately

How soon is to soon to offer a long term contract to Syndergard.  Also, what will it take, 3 year 100M?
Anthony Franco
4:03
Can't see him anywhere near that level while he's striking out 15% of opponents. Velocity down a couple ticks relative to where it was pre-surgery
4:04
I think he's probably more in the Stroman bucket (3/71 with an opt out)
Angels GM
4:04
Not sure if we need to go for a higher end 2nd/SS player or wait for David Fletcher.  I would rather spend the money on pitching.  Your thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:04
Middle infield has felt the bigger issue to me for a while
Roddy
4:05
What will it take for the Padres to hold onto Joe Musgrove?  5 years/100M?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Over
4:06
Should top Ray/Gausman money and there's a good chance he gets six years (not assuming any kind of hometown discount)
