Hard hit rate's going to have some relationship to power output obviously. Hitting the ball hard consistently is the best way to hit for extra-bases, but there are things that could cause a guy's power production to vary from that a bit
7:53
Speed, as you mentioned, is one. Also not going to really matter how hard you hit the ball if you're striking out 40% of the time or hitting the ball on the ground all the time. They're similar but it won't be a perfect correlation
Mike
7:53
Will mahle be traded?
Anthony Franco
7:54
I'm still a little skeptical the Reds end up pulling the trigger on both Mahle and Castillo. It'd be a pretty firm indication they're punting on 2023
7:55
Maybe they're prepared to go that route, and after you move one, there's not a strong justification to deal the other. But my complete guess is it's likelier we get just Castillo moved this summer
Wes
7:55
Could the Marlins look to move one of their plethora of starting pitchers for an OF, such as a trade centered around Pablo Lopez and O'Neill/Bader?
Anthony Franco
7:56
They don't really seem to want to move López, understandably. They kicked around the starter for offensive help over the winter but only ended up dealing a depth guy (Zach Thompson) as part of the return for Jacob Stallings
7:57
That feels more like the kind of thing they'd try to do this time too. Deal one of the back-end guys -- Braxton Garrett, sell low on Elieser Hernández -- than move one of the mid-rotation arms in a blockbuster

Who is the likeliest starter the Dodgers will obtain? Reliever? Is Merrifield a trade possibility for Lux and Hoese or Pages?
Anthony Franco
7:58
I like the Dodgers to get one of the Castillo/Mahle/Montas trio
7:59
They would not consider giving up Lux for Merrifield, if that's your second question. Whit would be more of a complementary piece acquired for some mid-tier guys from the system

Langeliers looks good, loved the Hoglund pickup in the Chapman trade. Expected better from Kevin Smith and Pache thus far though, I'll admit
8:02
I don't think the returns they got for those guys in the spring (aside from Manaea) was all that bad. It's unfortunate they're doing what they are and the next year and a half will be rough, but the front office has a strong track record with landing solid talent in trades like this
Tom
8:02
Logan O'Hoppe and a piece for Michael A. Taylor and Brad Keller. Who says no?

8:02
Any chances Merrill Kelly gets traded this deadline ? If yes, where do you see him landing ?
Anthony Franco
8:02
D-Backs just extended him in Spring Training, don't see it
Jaxon
8:03
What in the world are the Orioles going to do with all their hitting prospects? Trade for pitching?
Anthony Franco
8:04
At some point probably, but some are going to sift themselves out by not performing up to expectations. System does skew pretty heavy towards position players, particularly infielders, but if there's "too much talent" in 2024, it won't be hard to balance the roster
Mike Clevinger
8:05
Any chance I find myself on a new team before the deadline?
Anthony Franco
8:05
Not impossible but Snell strikes me as the likelier guy to go if they reallocate some salary from the rotation
Djboy2898
8:05
Do you think the Giants should be sellers this year? I mean I'd imagine that Rodon would be won of the better arms on the market and what do you think the return would be?
Anthony Franco
8:06
They're a half game out right now. It'd take a really bad next couple weeks to go that route
Red Sox
8:07
What will it cost to get Bard from col?
Anthony Franco
8:07
Shouldn't be much but it seems like the Rockies are leaning towards holding onto him
Joe
8:07
A report was out that Washington was looking to add Corban into the Soto trade. Adding 50+ million is a lot for any team. Would that hurt their prospect haul that they are gonna receive?
Anthony Franco
8:08
Yeah it'd diminish the return (although there'd obviously still be interest from some bigger-market teams), and I'd be surprised if that's the route they go
8:09
Only way that makes sense is if the Lerners are just motivated to shed as much money off the books to make the franchise sale more appealing next offseason
dancing dan mcgraw
8:09
Where does Josh Bell end up? Red Sox?
Anthony Franco
8:10
Yeah they're a viable fit. Guardians, Astros maybe, Mets all make sense
Jay Bone
8:11
How does the Ms lineup shakeout once haniger is back with haniger, winker, Lewis, jrod and Santana
Anthony Franco
8:12
Upton probably gets cut, Santana's playing time scaled back with Lewis featured more at DH once healthy. Hangier and J-Rod play everyday, Winker mostly plays daily but could get some rest days against LHP
Rick Hahn
8:12
Am I buying or selling
Anthony Franco
8:12
(White Sox)
8:13
They'll buy but I expect it to be pretty modest. Did a thing at length for Front Office subscribers on this last week, but the abridged version is basically that the areas they need help (infield, back of the rotation) are pretty thin this summer
8:14
Toss in a bottom-tier farm system and a franchise-record payroll, and it feels like you're mostly counting on the current roster to just play better. Wouldn't blame Sox fans if they're disappointed coming away with only, say, Donovan Solano, but I could see things playing out that way
Craig
8:15
More likely to be traded...Bell or Soto?
Anthony Franco
8:15
They basically have to trade Bell, who'll be a free agent after this year. That's not the case with Soto
Hoyer
8:15
Should I run a bunch of youngsters out after the trade deadline to see what we have?
