Josh Donaldson
2:18
He has been supremely MEH. Do you think the Yankees plan on running him back at 3b next year?
Anthony Franco
2:19
No I think they'll at least explore upgrades. Taking the Donaldson money was kind of the cost of doing business to get IKF, who they seemed to really want. They've got Donaldson as a fallback but I can't see why they'd be committed to him if something better presents itself
Ross Atkins
2:19
Should I DFA Kikuchi?
Anthony Franco
2:20
I'd try him in the bullpen as a left-on-left matchup guy
Jim
2:20
what type of contract do you envision Martin Perez getting this off-season? And do you think this season for him is a fluke or legit
Anthony Franco
2:21
He's better than he was but the 2.79 ERA way overstates it. Still not missing many bats, getting a few more grounders than recent years but nothing he hasn't done before
2:22
He's kind of in the DeSclafani/Matz/Alex Wood bucket from last year. Would guess he re-signs with Texas for like 3/30
John
2:23
Will Correa opt in? Tough call
Anthony Franco
2:23
Don't think so
Jon Daniels
2:24
Am I next? I mean I put this team together and it truly is a mix-matched roster of players who do not compliment each other very well.
Anthony Franco
2:24
(Rangers president of baseball ops)
2:25
I don't think Daniels is in any danger of being fired, although it does feel like he'll continue to cede increasing control over baseball operations to GM Chris Young
2:26
The team's definitely a mixed bag right now. They've gotten some promising showings out of the young position players (Lowe, Heim, Duran to an extent) but the back of the rotation is a disaster
The goal has always been to put a foundation together to build on for 2023, though, and I think that's still in play. If they'd won a few more one-run games, the progress they've made since last season would be a lot more obvious
Lucas
2:27
Thoughts on Trevor Stephan? Most underrated reliever in the game imo
Anthony Franco
2:28
Yeah he's great. The 2020 Rule 5 was a hell of a draft
Contreras
2:28
To St. Louis? Any chance?
Anthony Franco
2:29
Contreras doesn't feel like their kind of target with how much they prioritize defense. He's gotten better behind the plate but is still more of a bat-first guy
Freddie
2:29
are the pirates too far away from contention to trade for a controllable starter from the Pablo Lopez mold?
Anthony Franco
2:30
On Pablo specifically, yeah. He's arb-eligible through 2024, and that's a tough window for Pittsburgh. 2024 contention is viable but not something I'd bank on hard enough I'm giving up top prospects to pry López away
2:31
If we're talking someone like Skubal, who's around through 2026, that makes more sense
Ross Atkins
2:31
Did I make a mistake signing Berrios 7/131 this past offseason?
Anthony Franco
2:32
I didn't think so at the time but it would appear that way. I don't know where all the strikeouts went but he looks rough
Walker in tow
2:33
Is it possible that the Cardinals spend potential Arenado money elsewhere with Walker in the wings?  They've never been afraid to walk away from their best impending FA.
Anthony Franco
2:34
Man, that'd be pretty bold. Feels like they'll find a way to keep Arenado around, particularly since he's talked so much about wanting to be there, and just work Walker in through DH and the corner outfield eventually
A.J. Preller
2:35
Should I resign Josh Bell this offseason? If so, how much do I need to give him?
Anthony Franco
2:36
Feels like starting pitching will be the priority with the potential departures of Manaea and Clevinger and the Gore trade
2:38
Bell feels kind of in the Schwarber territory at like 4/80. Maybe you'd run him up to 5/100 alongside Castellanos. Tim Dierkes is more bullish on Bell than I am though
Here's Johnny
2:38
What kind of contract does Johnny Cueto get?  He's been awesome this year after going unsigned over the offseason.  Will the White Sox re-sign him?
Anthony Franco
2:39
Yeah I was wondering about this today myself. He really has been huge for them, and I haven't given him enough attention since I've kind of assumed he'd eventually tail off
Solid candidate for a two-year deal at this point, maybe in the 15-20MM range
Wilson Contreras
2:40
Will I surpass JT Realmuto in terms of AAV and Total Dollars?
Anthony Franco
2:41
Don't think so. Feels like there's more consensus about Realmuto's ability to stick behind the plate for the duration of the deal than there will be with Willson
Alright everyone I have to run and write about Travis Demeritte
2:42
Thanks for all the questions, apologies as always for the tons of stuff I couldn't address
You can find me on Twitter @affranco10. I'm happy to answer questions there
2:43
I also run a weekly chat exclusive for Front Office subscribers on Friday afternoons. I cover the vast majority of questions there (usually in more detail than I can here) since the queues are so much smaller
I'm off the rest of this week but I believe Steve will fill in on that chat this Friday
2:44
Subscriptions also get you weekly articles from Steve and myself, as well as some extra fantasy-specific content from Brad
