Make a run at one of the star free agent position players (Judge, Turner, etc.). Bring Rodón back and bolster the bullpen

It's a lot but they'll have like $65MM in guaranteed money on next year's books once Rodón opts out and only Disco for $12MM in 2024. There should be plenty of room to add an impact bat while topping the market on Rodón or another starter

Yeah this one I don't think anyone can fix in a year. Especially if Skubal misses a chunk of next year (not guaranteed but seems possible), you're done to like E-Rod, Turnbull and Manning in the rotation and a lineup that has been awful almost top-to-bottom

Probably need a catcher to bridge the gap to Dingler, at least an upgrade over one of Schoop/Candelario (ideally both), Tork/Greene/Baddoo to all play better, Báez to get back on track, rotation depth. It's too much to fix in one winter, I think

Best to just kind of chip away by looking for some infield help (ideally someone with a couple years of control) and giving the younger guys another extended run with an eye towards 2024

Kind of an open book financially there too. Feels like pitching winds up being the priority since most of the college arms they've drafted (Singer excepted) haven't panned out as hoped

I wouldn't go that far. I think that probably gets them to around league average, unless the shortstop is Trea Turner or something. The bullpen needs a lot of work still, in particular
And just generally could use more offensive punch off the bench, although Corbin Carroll eventually pushing Jake McCarthy into a fourth outfield role will help

Tough one, I really don't know. It needs a complete overhaul basically. I think they'll try to bring Wacha back to join PIvetta and Sale, but they still need 2-3 more outside arms

Feels like one of those will be a Ross Stripling type mid-tier buy in free agency. Could look into one of the controllable starters (Plesac, Civale, López, Urquidy) who was floated as a speculative trade candidate at the deadline but didn't move

Obviously depends on the owner but in a vacuum, I think the Angels are more appealing. SoCal market, you get a year of Ohtani plus Trout forever. They've got the Rendon investment on the books but the Nats have the same deal for Strasburg, less MLB talent and a good chunk of deferred money

I doubt they'll pick a defined closer so much as rotate Suárez, García, Hader, Martinez through as the situation dictates

Yeah that's a great question. Always good when healthy, but he's going to be 32 and has a pretty rough injury history. I think you can make a case for him to be in the Chris Taylor 4/60 range but the error bars are pretty wide. I don't know how many impending FA's will be more impacted by how they finish the season

They'll add but I don't expect them to transform into a playoff contender. The current roster is bad, not one I see a way to fix in one winter

Probably going to lose Contreras, should trade Happ. That'd be two of their top position players out the door from a team that's going to lose 90+ games. Aside from Hoerner, most of the position players are either stopgaps or young guys coming off down years

The rotation has Stroman, Hendricks, who's coming off injury, Justin Steele and a bunch of question marks. Keegan Thompson's ok, maybe Alzolay gets healthy and puts things together but there's too many ifs there for me to see a way they end up above .500
