Depends how much Moreno's willing to spend before he sells the team. They're a fit for any of the free agent shortstops on paper, but I'm skeptical they'll want to go to that level given the organizational change
6:03
So that probably means adding someone from the mediocre second base class. Brandon Drury, Kolten Wong if the Brewers buy him out. They're not super exciting, but they'd be better than counting on Rengifo or Velasquez
6:04
Kick Fletcher back to shortstop and if Rengifo plays well enough to be a regular (as he's done this season), there should be room to fit him in eventually
6:05
As for Lorenzen, I'd let him walk. Don't think the rotation has to be a huge priority and he's been just ok anyways
Nola Family
6:05
Austin versus Aaron would be awesome, but will Brew Crew interfere?
Anthony Franco
6:06
Wouldn't get that anyways. It'll likely be SD versus the NL East loser and STL versus one of MIL/PHI
6:07
Philly/Milwaukee's almost a coin flip with how bad the Phils have played lately, but they've got the tiebreaker and Milwaukee's still got some innings restrictions on Peralta and Ashby as they work back from injury, so I'll go Philly still
Marte’s Finger
6:07
Can a player come off the IL earlier than otherwise eligible if the regular season ends and the postseason begins? Or does the end of the regular season have no bearing on that? Thanks.
Anthony Franco
6:07
Still have to serve the minimum number of days
6:08
If this is specifically about Starling Marte, he's already well past 10 days anyways. They're just waiting on him to get healthy
Inquisitor
6:08
How many people do you usually have during these?
Anthony Franco
6:08
Varies depending on time of day and year. Get over 1000 around the deadline. September's pretty slow, usually tops out at like 400-500
Right now it's 198
AL MVP VOTE
6:09
Will Judge be unanimous AL MVP or is it actually going to be closer than what Yankees fans might think?
Anthony Franco
6:09
I think Ohtani gets a few first-place votes but expect Judge to win pretty handily

What type of young controllable starter do you think the Jays could get if they trade from their surplus catching.  How much does Kirk bring back vs. Jensen vs Moreno?
Anthony Franco
6:11
Kirk's the kind of guy who's probably going to have very different value to different teams, since they're going to have differing opinions on whether he's a viable defensive catcher
6:12
Public metrics have loved him with the glove this year, and while I think they miss a lot with regards to the nuances of catching specifically, there's enough evidence there for me that he's fine back there and an obviously excellent hitter
6:13
So he's the most appealing to me but I'm guessing you'd get differing orders from different clubs. They're all quite valuable to one degree or another though and I expect they'll move one of them for a upper mid-rotation type with multiple years of control, as you suggested
Belli truther
6:13
Where does belli end up after he’s non tendered. 1 year 10ish mill prove it deal?
Anthony Franco
6:14
Yeah that's probably about right. Giants, Rockies, Marlins all make sense
The real Pete Davidson
6:14
is this collapse from the Phillies going to influence what they intend to do this offseason?
Anthony Franco
6:15
They'll look for pitching upgrades (both rotation and bullpen) and have to figure out second base either way. I don't think whether they make the playoffs has a ton of bearing on it
6:17
They'd be disappointed, obviously, but they're not about to blow the roster up because of two bad weeks. In some cases, an ownership group might respond by encouraging the baseball ops team to get more aggressive in free agency, but the Phillies have already been doing that
Stearns snd Stein
6:17
Does Milwaukee trade one or both of Burnes and Woodruff? 2 years left on both deals
Anthony Franco
6:17
Yeah I think they'll deal one this winter. Arb prices are escalating throughout the roster and they'd get an absolute haul for either
6:18
Believe Steve's planning to explore this more in-depth for Front Office subscribers this week, by the way

How many managerial openings will there be in the offseason do you think? Angels, Phills, Marlins so far, white sox maybe? Twins?
Anthony Franco
6:19
Twins already announced Baldelli will be back. White Sox could come open, but that seems dependent on La Russa's health so it's hard to speculate. Rangers and Blue Jays already have interim guys, could see the Royals or Reds make a change
6:20
Dusty Baker's also in the last year of his contract in Houston, and while I think retaining him should be a no-brainer, that they only gave him a one-year deal last offseason is eyebrow-raising enough a change there is at least a possibility
Rule 5 Draft
6:20
Since last year’s draft was cancelled, will there be more people selected in this years draft?
Anthony Franco
6:21
Interesting question. I lean towards no since a bunch of the guys who would've been Rule 5 eligible last year will just be minor league free agents this offseason
That's not true of everyone though so I could see this going either way. Hadn't previously considered it

I'm not sure if players are not but, sure if it's the type of training  players are doing but I've been watching baseball since the mid 60's and have never seen as many pulled muscles, hamstrings broken bones or Tommy John surgeries in my life. What is up?
Anthony Franco
6:23
There's a lot that goes into this and I'm not a medical professional obviously, but I think the main thing is that teams are encouraging guys to play a max-effort style, both in games and in the way they prepare. It makes players more effective but also puts a greater amount of stress on their bodies that leads to increased injury susceptibility

The Rangers will end '22 with a pitching rotation of Jon Gray and nothing else proven or, dare I say, likable. It would seem that talk of contention in '23 isn't grounded in reality and that the rebuild is still very much ongoing. How does spending big on 30yo free agents going forward make the franchise better long term?
Anthony Franco
6:25
I don't know about better long-term but signing a couple mid-rotation starters so you don't have to pitch Glenn Otto, Spencer Howard and Cole Ragans fairly frequently should make the 2023 roster notably better
6:26
Are they 2023 contenders as things stand right now? No, I agree with you on that. But if they add a couple starters and find a little more consistency in the outfield alongside Adolis García, I could see them getting into the Wild Card mix

Who do you take? The dodgers are the field.
Anthony Franco

Field over any specific team, at least until the Championship Series. Baseball postseason's much too random
