How much more does Judge get on the FA market if it makes it to 62 vs. if he doesn't?
Anthony Franco
8:28
Won't matter at all on his contract. Teams know how good he is
Bucco71
8:29
Astros almost a sure bet to waltz through the AL playoffs?
Anthony Franco
8:29
Nobody's a sure bet to waltz through the playoffs. The baseball postseason is pretty random
8:30
Astros are the AL's best team, but that doesn't matter a whole lot in a five-game series. Things just get fluky in that few amount of games
Dylan Carlson
8:31
So my year has been disappointing. Will I ever be an All Star or is average-ish my lot in baseball?
Anthony Franco
8:32
Feels like a slightly above-average player but not an All-Star. Doesn't hit the ball quite as hard as I'd expected but he's got good strike zone awareness and the ability to play center field
Geno Smith > Russ
8:32
what does a Mitch Haniger contract look like?
Anthony Franco
8:33
I like him at three years, maybe in the $39MM range? Tough player to value with the injury history but generally strong production
8:34
You can make a case he should be near Chris Taylor money, but I think the injury history is significant enough to knock him down a bit. Also depends on whether the M's issue him a qualifying offer, which he could accept
Dodgers
8:35
Heaney, Kershaw, Tyler Anderson all coming off the books. Ryan Pepiot, Michael Grove, Bobby Miller, and Gavin Stone at AAA. Does LA sign any pitchers and if so, how many?
Anthony Franco
8:36
Yeah they're going to continue to add starting pitching, they always do. They'll try to keep Kershaw around if he wants to stay, probably add a couple mid-rotation types while mixing in the younger guys
2nd base
8:36
How do you view someone signing Dansby Swanson to play 2nd base? Is that insane? Or a sneaky move with so few good 2nd basemen available as FA
Anthony Franco
8:37
Definitely not insane, I'm sure he'd be a great second baseman. Dansby has to be open to it obviously (and I think there's still a chance he just signs an extension with the Braves anyways) but if he's amenable, I expect second base needy teams to jump in
8:38
Someone like the Mariners signing Swanson to play second base makes sense
8:39
Braves just announced Huascar Ynoa had Tommy John surgery
Let me get a headline up, two minutes
8:42
Well turns out they announced it an hour ago but it just came across my radar
Anyways, I'm back
David Stearns
8:42
Do I have enough money to keep woodruff  and Burns.  Which one do I trade before I leave for the Mets.
Anthony Franco
8:42
I don't expect the Mets to hire Stearns but that's beside the point
8:44
Hard to see Milwaukee keeping both Woodruff and Burnes. There should be enough room on the books to make a legitimate run at one of them. Burnes is the better pitcher and the one they'll probably prioritize, but extensions take mutual interest
8:45
Do think one of them is getting dealt by the 2023-24 offseason at the latest with each arb-eligible for two more years
Guards
8:45
Would plesac, arias, Allen and another lower level pitcher or 2 get a top center fielder for Cleveland this off-season? I know everyone assumes they will go after Murphy, but I feel center should be upgraded more the catcher
Anthony Franco
8:47
I don't think that's especially close for someone like Reynolds, no. Agree they make sense as a suitor for an impact center fielder, but they'll need to offer more than that to pull it off for an impact player
Connor⚾️
8:47
so excited we called up Jung! How do u think he will be?
Anthony Franco
8:47
Very good, probably immediately
Halifax
8:47
Chances that the Jays release Ryu after the season to clear a 40 man spot, and try to sign him to a minor league contract for his rehab? They're paying the last year of the contract regardless.
Anthony Franco
8:48
Not sure re-signing him to a minor league deal achieves anything if they think he'll be out for all of 2023 anyways
8:49
If they expect him to miss the whole year though, then releasing him makes sense, yeah
As you said, they're on the hook for the money either way. No reason to burn the 40-man spot next winter unless they think he can make it back late in the year
Willson Contreras
8:49
Would it shock you if he either agrees to a QO, or signs an extension with the Cubs?
Anthony Franco
8:49
Both would shock me, yeah
Herm
8:49
Which interim manager gets a chance to stay on as the permanent manager? Which managers won’t come back?
Anthony Franco
8:50
Rob Thomson feels the likeliest of the interim guys to stick around with how well Philly's played since making the change
Neal Huntington's former roommat
8:50
Reds off-season plans should include signing: _________
Anthony Franco
8:51
Next year feels like it's going to be a transitional season, so I think they're kind of biding their time with one-year deal guys and waiting for 2024 to push forward more aggressively
8:52
So pick a buy-low guy you like. Maybe that's Conforto or Gallo on a pillow deal, a potentially solid player who gets non-tendered by somebody else like Jeimer Candelario, etc.
Dave
8:53
Based on his performance in SD, if Juan Soto was a free agent after this season, would he get the $500 million contract he seems to want?
Anthony Franco
8:53
Yeah, I think he would. He still has a .395 OBP as a Padre
