Thoughts on Carlos Martinez? Future closer or will he continue to be a dynamic SP’er?
Mark P
4:22
It's a bit of an eyebrow-raiser for me that the Cardinals haven't ruled out a future as a reliever when they've already got CarMar on a pricey extension.  Maybe they know something we don't, or perhaps they're just being creative and flexible in exploring their pitching options
Mr. Koo
4:25
Who wins best picture?
Mark P
4:25
Roma or Green Book will win.  My personal favorite of the nominees is (no pun intended) The Favourite, but it's a longshot.
Gabe
4:26
Which nl east team do you think have the best chance to win the division
Mark P
4:27
At the moment, my NL East ranking is....
1. Washington
2. Philly
3. Atlanta
4. New York
5. Miami

The top four are very fluid, and could change at a moment's notice (particularly once we see where Harper goes)

Can the tigers be a 500 team this year.can they sign any fad next year to accelerate rebuild
Mark P
4:28
.500 this year seems like a stretch, even in a weak division. I would guess Detroit wouldn't really explore any truly big FAs until the 2020-21 offseason, but you never know

4:28
Could Hanley potentially be a sneaky good pick up by the tribe?
Mark P
4:29
Really a no-lose signing for Cleveland.  See if Hanley has anything in the tank in Spring Training, and if he does, bring up to the 25-man for only $1MM.

4:31
Would a package of Jonathan India, Anthony Descalafini, Amir Garrett and Jesse Winker be enough for the Reds to get Trevor Bauer from Cleveland since there appears to be tension after the arbitration hearing
Mark P
4:32
"Tension" might be a bit overstated.  Arb hearings can often lead to some pretty blunt talk from either side.

I think the Indians accept that offer for Bauer, btw
Dave
4:32
Do you see Anthony Rendon signing an extension this year or waiting for FA?
Mark P
4:33
I normally predict any Boras client for free agency, but in the case of the Nationals, it's a different story given the longtime Boras/Lerner connection.  I'll give this one a 55% chance of an extension, based on nothing more than a gut feeling
Dan
4:33
Is Buster Posey going to mirror Joe Mauer, body failed, move to 1st was too late?
Mark P
4:34
There hasn't yet been any discussion of a full-time move to first base for Posey.  I always did find it odd, however, that the Giants extended Brandon Belt when they knew that Posey would eventually need a larger share of first base time
Scott
4:35
Angels waiting to see what Harper signs for before offering Trout an extension?
Mark P
4:35
I'd imagine the Angels have already had some kind of talks with Trout's camp, but Harper's deal is certainly a factor in a future offer.  Whatever Harper gets, Trout has a strong case for significantly more.

4:37
Could the Dodgers be Harper's mystery team?
Mark P
4:38
Can't rule it out.

4:39
If a team agreed to eat all of Zack Greinke’s deal would they also need to offer more than a token prospect?
Mark P
4:40
The Diamondbacks aren't in pure rebuild mode, however.  They definitely still hope to contend in 2019, so they wouldn't move Greinke solely as a salary dump.

That's what makes that situation so tricky for the D'Backs (not to mention his no-trade clause for half the league).  I'm sure they've explored lots of Greinke trade scenarios but they won't give him away just for the payroll savings.
JJ Evron
4:41
Will Winker have a chance at everyday playing time in Cincy?
Mark P
4:42
They'll give him every opportunity for it.  I like Winker as a bit of a hidden gem for the season, he was hitting really well last year before his injury
Pat
4:42
Could the Cubs be Harper’s mystery team?
Mark P
4:43
The Cubs have said all winter that they don't want to exceed the maximum luxury tax penalty threshold ($246MM).  Unless they swing a trade to unload some other money, I highly doubt they're in on Harper
ChiSox
4:43
So what now?
Mark P
4:44
Fans will hate to hear this, but....maybe nothing.  Maybe they save their powder until midseason, when they can explore taking on a longer-term asset at the trade deadline.  Then, try again in free agency next winter.
Geoff
4:44
If Roy Hobbs was real where does he sign going into 2019? Who needs a power lefty bat?
Mark P
4:45
Age, off-the-field issues, and injury problems are a concern --- I mean, the guy was openly bleeding through his uniform.  (Can't believe the umpire didn't call time for a trainer to check him out.)  Also, teams would have to pay a fortune to repair their lights every other game.
Dan
4:46
Are the Rays hurting or slowing the development of Brendan McKay by having him play both ways?
Mark P
4:47
Both McKay himself and the team seem fully invested and eager in exploring his two-way potential as far as it can go.  Why not take the opportunity for something really unique?

I hope it works, it would be cool to see.  (Plus, "Two-Way McKay" would automatically be the best nickname in years.)
Beltre
4:48
Better year: Profar or Odor?
Mark P
4:49
My vote is Profar, but it's close.  Odor was so bad in 2017 and so hot-and-cold in 2018 that it's hard to at all project what he might do this year.
Von Purple Hayes

Best mascot in baseball?
Mark P
4:49
Can't go wrong with the Phanatic
Chad
4:50
Odds of Paul Goldschmidt signing an extension?
Mark P
4:50
I don't see it happening before the season, unless the Cardinals really overpay.  Goldschmidt surely wants to see what he can get on the open market.
Dave D.
4:51
With so much of my core becoming free agents in a year or two, who do I retain and let go?
Mark P
4:53
A reference to Sox president of baseball ops Dave Dombrowski, btw

My thoughts, based purely on my own guesswork....
Stays: Bogaerts, Thornburg
Goes: Sale, Porcello, Moreland, Nunez
