Any chance Dallas comes Home to Houston?
Mark P
4:54
The possibility grows by the day.  I could foresee a one-year contract situation, like Dexter Fowler taking a one-year deal to return to the Cubs a few years back.

Do you think that Manny Machado was overpayed at all?
Mark P
4:56
He's one of, at worst, baseball's top 15 players.  He's only 26, so you're likely getting at least five prime years out of him, quite possibly more.  With revenues being what they are in baseball, Machado seems worth it to me.

Do you think Harper has been reluctant to sign with the Phillies because he wants to be THE star of the team he'll be playing on for the next decade, and won't be that star once Trout signs with the Phils, sometime in the next two years?
Mark P
4:59
I highly doubt it.  Harper isn't basing his decisions on something that MIGHT happen two years down the road.  (And that's a big might, since Trout could stay with LAA, sign elsewhere, get hurt, decline in ability, etc.)  Also, Harper is a competitive guy --- I suspect he'd be overjoyed to have Mike Trout join his team.

Any chance for the Angels to make the playoffs this year?
Mark P
5:00
Absolutely.  They need some good health for a change, but they've certainly got a shot at that second AL wild card spot
Bunny Stuntzl
5:00
Will the Rays have more than 3 starting pitchers this year / do you see more teams rolling with the opener strategy now?
Mark P
5:01
Yes and yes.  Snell/Morton/Glasnow seem like a set top three, and i could see one of the younger guys be brought along in a more regular SP role

Keuchel to Houston on a 1 year, $14 million contract...who says no?
Mark P
5:02
Keuchel.  If he does have to settle for a one-year deal, he'll at least want more than the value of the qualifying offer

Are the Nats Harper's mystery team?
Mark P
5:02
I wouldn't be surprised if Nats ownership has asked Boras/Harper to give them one last chance to top any offer Harper receives.

Would the White Sox be in on Arenado or Rendon after missing Manny this Offseason?
Mark P
5:04
I would expect so, assuming they're comfortable in moving Moncada around to another position again

Is Desmond a regular by years end?  Have to think Tapia takes over at some point.
Mark P
5:06
As I wrote earlier, I like Tapia and think he's a nice young player for the Rockies.  I'd be more apt to give him playing time ahead of Desmond, but then again, I'm not the one that signed Desmond to that huge contract
Marwin G
5:07
Good move by the Twins to add me to the team?
Mark P
5:07
Excellent move.  Marwin is the kind of player that adds to virtually any roster, and he gives Minnesota cover at a lot of question mark positions for them.

Chances any Angels / A’s / Rangers / Mariners pitcher tops 200 innings?
Mark P
5:09
Fun fact: only 13 pitchers in all of baseball hit the 200-inning plateau last season.

So I'd say chances are slim

Why do you think Epplar & Moreno are not making big moves to put talent in the rotation and line up? Handing out 1 year deals. Do you think he's waiting to spend in 2020-2021 to add
Mark P
5:11
After all the injuries of recent years, I can't blame the Angels for wanting to see what they actually have.  The difficulty, of course, is that they can't wait too long since the clock is ticking on Trout.

If the Angels are contending at the deadline, however, I wouldn't be surprised by some aggressive trades
Yanks
5:14
Yanks have CC Gardner, Ellsbury and Happ, all of whom are probably on their last MLB contracts. Could they give all of them league minimum  ext  to lower their AAV and get under or at least  save money paid towards the Luxtax,  cc would go from 8m to 4m, gardy frm 7 to 3.5, Ellsfrom 21 to 18.5, happ from 17 to 12,  thats a 15m luxtax savings.
Mark P
5:14
There are rules in place to prevent those types of luxury tax shenanigans.

Any chance that Bartolo Colon signs with a MLB team this year?
Mark P
5:14
I think I speak for every baseball fan when I say that I really hope so
Just Dreaming
5:15
Is there any chance, any, that the Cubs find a taker for Heyward?  He'll handcuff the team for 5 more years.
Mark P
5:16
Heyward has a 12-team no-trade clause, so that complicates matters even if the Cubs did find a taker.  It would have to be some kind of bad contract swap, or the Cubs would have to tie Heyward to a notable prospect (or two) to get another team interested
5:20
And on that note, let's call it an afternoon.  See everyone next Sunday night at 8pm CT for our regularly-scheduled chat.
