This division is very tough, however, and I would believe almost any order.  That said, I'd be stunned if Chicago finished last.

I wondered if the D'Backs might target Swihart this winter due to the Mike Hazen/Boston ties, though Arizona got Carson Kelly instead.

Anyway, comparing Swihart to Goldschmidt in any way is laughable.  Swihart has done next to nothing at the MLB level.

If he signed an extension with Boston now, it'd cover his last arb year (2020) and then his free agent years from his age-28 season onward.  I'd guess Betts would receive more than Arenado, possibly over $300MM

Small sample size, but Chen was incredibly good pitching in home games last season (and, to be fair, awful on the road).  There may yet be some hope that he can get things back on track, at least to the point that Miami can get some half-ok prospects back in a trade, or another team will eat at least a modest chunk of his salary

This will be one of the main points of debate within the next round of CBA negotiations.  The league doesn't have any reason to do anything about it now, but I'd guess it gets corrected in some way in the next deal.

This is one of those issues that both sides can agree on as a win-win in talks.  Front offices (and owners) are surely annoyed that they have to hamper their 25-man rosters by not calling up a player that will obviously make them better

At what point is signing Kimbrel worth more than losing the 39th overall pick for the Rays? 2 years $10 million per as opposed to 2 years, $15 million per while losing the 2nd round pick? I just feel like, if they were going to lose their 2nd round pick instead, they would be a bit more aggressive in signing him. Thoughts?

I noted this in my Rays offseason in review piece from the other day (cheap plug!) --- don't forget the Rays actually picked up an extra draft pick as part of their contribution to the Jurickson Profar trade.  So if they wanted to give up a pick to add Kimbrel, they could do so without the net loss of any draft capital

The Tigers, Royals, and White Sox are all going to lose at least 90 games.  Minnesota has been very inconsistent in recent years.  Cleveland's roster has its issues, but they have more than enough in a weak division

At some point a decision will have to be made, and honestly, it probably could've/should've happened already.  I wonder if Pujols and the front office will chat about a potential exit strategy....Pujols is a proud man, I'm sure he doesn't want to be unceremoniously released
