Where would this position player go?  The Padres have C (Mejia), 1B (Hosmer), 2B (Urias), SS (Tatis), 3B (Machado), LF (Myers), CF (Margot) all spoken for in the forseeable future.  And they have enough interesting outfielders that RF doesn't seem like a huge need.
10:12
I guess they could explore packaging a younger guy for a more proven star, but I'd guess that Machado and Hosmer represent the Padres' biggest investments on the position player side for the future

10:12
Lynch, Flair or Rousey tomorrow?
Mark P
10:12
Becky Lynch all the way
Oso
10:13
Mark, Angel injures aren’t the problem.  Outside of Trout Angels have the single worst lineup in the major leagues.
Mark P
10:14
They're missing Upton and Ohtani, and if those guys were playing, the lineup would be notably better.
Joe Maddon
10:14
Can i be fired midseason if the bad start becomes a bad first half?
Mark P
10:15
I'm of the mindset that Maddon won't be back managing the Cubs in 2020.  But that said, I'm somehow hesitant to think that he would actually be fired barring anything beyond a total collapse
Chris
10:15
What do u think is wrong with the redsox starting pitching is it the that they miss Sandy Leon
Mark P
10:16
Leon's absence might be a factor, or it could simply just be a rough week.  Sometimes a rotation is just cold en masse
Jessica Spano
10:16
Does Rendon top 100M next off season?
Mark P
10:16
Easily.  If he has another big season in 2019, his next contract will be much closer to $200MM than $100MM
Time served
10:19
Most devastating injury thus far?
Mark P
10:20
Hard to pick one that singularly stands out.  Losing Upton for so long might have ruined any chance the Angels had, though their pitching injuries don't help.

Might end up being Lindor.  Cleveland needs him back badly.
Mets
10:20
Are they for real?  They are playing well down to Dominic smith who seems reinvigorated at 23.
Mark P
10:21
I expect the Mets to be NL East contenders all season.

As for Smith..."reinvigorated at 23" is kind of an odd way of putting it.  Most players aren't even in the big leagues by 23, and yet the guy was already being written off as a bust after less than 350 PA
Rob
10:22
Trading Pillar made perfect sense for the Jays.  Why though get guys like brito and Hanson vs giving some playing time to guys who may actually have a future with the team
Mark P
10:24
The Jays are just roster-churning to find any hidden gems, so I wouldn't count on Brito or Hanson sticking around for too long unless they play better.  It is curious why Anthony Alford hasn't been added to the roster yet --- he was actually with the team and seemed to be on the verge of the 25-man even before the Pillar trade, but no dice
Giants
10:24
Do we sign a guy like Gattis considering hes still a FA this late in the season? And which teams do you think would be in the market for our relievers come trade deadline?
Mark P
10:25
Where would Gattis play on a team without a DH spot?

As for the Watson/Smith market, it's an easy answer, but probably every contender in baseball will be giving the Giants a call
Derry NH
10:25
Chris Davis' tank appears to be completely empty.  Can O's send him to minors?
Mark P
10:26
Not without his permission.  Davis' total deterioration is hard to watch.  His contract seemed like an overpay at the time, but I don't think anyone could've expected this drastic a fall
Axe Capital
10:27
Mike Trout is underrated. It’s kinda crazy, but it’s true. Right? If dude played on the East Coast, fuhgettaboutit. He would be a marketing dream.
Mark P
10:28
This is true.  Everyone realizes Trout is the best player in baseball but it hadn't seemed to generally sink in that he might actually be the best player of all time.
Thairo Estrada
10:28
Is it fair to bring a guy up and send him back down without even using him?
Mark P
10:31
Baseball's a business, so "fair" often doesn't have much to do with it.  Plans can change overnight based on injuries, other moves, etc.

I do feel sorry for those guys without any MLB experience who are called up but never get into a game, so they're still not "officially" Major Leaguers.  If a guy is up for a week or so and still hasn't played, as a manager I'd get him at least a defensive sub appearance so he can get a new Baseball Reference page.

10:31
Can you see the Braves making a play for Rendon this offseason?
Mark P
10:31
From how they approached their winter spending this offseason, I'd be doubtful
100+ chats no answer
10:33
At what point do we consider that the O's might actually be at least a 70-win team?
Mark P
10:33
70 wins would count as a tremendous success for the organization.  Still too early to gauge, however

10:33
At the end of last season, it seemed like would-be Rockies ace Jon Gray badly needed a change of scenery and that the team had lost confidence in him.  I was shocked that he didn't get traded, and so far this year he hasn't done anything to restore confidence.  Do the Rockies look for a change-of-scenery trade as soon as Senzatella comes off the Injured List, or do they hope to find a taker in July?
Mark P
10:34
I'd say no, since it's still too early to give up on Gray.  Especially if you're the Rockies and need all the pitching you can get
It's time to wrap things up for tonight's chat.  Nice questions, gang!  See you all next weekend
