Would the Twins have any interest in acquiring Bumgarner, the one team absent from his no-trade list (though he only probably only had 8 teams to choose)?
Mark P
8:08
I'd guess Minnesota will definitely make some calls.  A rental player like Bumgarner fits the Twins' formula of not making any long-term commitments, though it will depend on how big of a farm system hit the Twins are willing to take to acquire a guy for two-plus months

Do you like MLB Network's coverage of Drsft
Mark P
8:09
Yes, I think they do a good job
Hunter

Do the rays pick up kimbrel or Keuchel if they keep getting injuries
Mark P
8:10
Signing one would be an out-of-character splurge for the Rays, as much as they've been tied to Kimbrel's market.  Signing both is simply not happening.

Would you like to see GM's at Draft talking Trades like if a Red Sox want to move up in first round might willing to give up Chavis and so on to do it or give up picks to get like Madbum and ESPN televise to and be outside like NFL one is or like how NHL one is done?
Mark P
8:12
I'd long felt that MLB should allow all draft picks to be traded.  It wouldn't make baseball's draft as high-profile as the NFL/NHL/NBA drafts just due to the nature of the sport (baseball top prospects won't immediately help a team in the next season), but trading picks would add a fascinating new dimension to the hot stove

How surprised have you been by the yankees hot start? Pretty incredible what they’ve done without their core players
Mark P
8:13
For the sheer number of major injuries they've faced, the Yankees' record is pretty incredible.  This team will be scary when everyone gets back.
Jd Martinez
8:14
How much am I wanting the national league to apply the DH?  What teams are looking at me heavy besides the Braves?
Mark P
8:15
If the NL adopted the designated hitter, there would be a lot more teams than just Atlanta going after JDM
Mr. SENZEL
8:15
The Reds offense has begun to take off since Senzel arrived... think the frobt office regrets not keeping him on the opening day roster? What is your opunion of the stupid service rules preventing putting the best players on the field?
Mark P
8:17
Senzel himself isn't exactly ripping up the league, so I wouldn't give him full credit.

But in general, you're right, the service-time loophole is something that needs to be addressed in the next CBA.  Fans hate it, players hate it, and I'll bet front offices would love to publicly admit that they hate it.

How long until the Isotopes are a major league club?
Mark P
8:18
MLB doesn't want more bad publicity from the Isotopes, like when Whitey Ford was buried under that avalanche of pretzels
Joshua
8:18
Rendon to the (blank) at the trade deadline?
Mark P
8:19
This will be a fascinating situation to watch if the Nats continue to struggle.  Remember, Nats ownership balked at a Harper trade last summer, so it remains to be seen if the club will again keep a superstar in the hopes of re-signing him, or maybe the Nats have learned from their Harper mistake
Dave

Is this version of Gio Urshela for real?
Mark P
8:21
I think I can safely say he won't have a 900+ OPS all season, but he's definitely earned himself a job
Or at least a share of a full-time job
Steven
8:22
Davey Martinez make it to the end of the month as the Nats Manager?
Mark P
8:22
Yes

Once the comp drops Keuchel who parties in LA, gotta be a real target for the Halos right?
Mark P
8:24
I had Keuchel going to the Angels way back in November, so the fact that there wasn't even much talk between the two could indicate a lack of interest on Anaheim's part.

But on paper, it's certainly a match.
Mark
8:24
Can Belllnger come close to hitting .400 all year.
Mark P
8:25
Realistically, no, just because the .400 mark has only been seriously approached a couple of times since Ted Williams.

But man, wouldn't that be awesome to see if Bellinger is still around .400 by, say, August?
John
8:26
Does Michael Chavis start fairly regularly when all the guys come back from the DL?
Ice horse
8:26
The ice horse had 5 rbi’s For the Sox....to early to name him ROY and start bronzing his name in Cooperstown?
Mark P
8:28
"Ice Horse" might already earn him a slot in the nickname Hall Of Fame

If I'm the Red Sox, I see no reason to take Chavis out of the lineup while he's still producing.  There's also the fact that Pedroia may simply not ever be the same again, so counting on him to be the Pedroia of old seems foolish

If washington doesn't rebound, could any of their 3 top SP become available ? Assuming they approved, could Schwezer for Stanton as the main components bepossible ?
Mark P
8:30
If the Nats do become deadline sellers, they won't do a full teardown.  They'll look to move guys who are free agents after this season, not longer-term pieces like Scherzer, Stras, Corbin

8:31
Why do “experts” talk about Trout as potentially being greatest of all time? I don’t see it.
Mark P
8:32
He has been hands-down incredible in each of his full MLB seasons.  He doesn't turn 28 until August, so it's safe to guess that we have at least five more seasons of "peak Trout" remaining.
8:34
In my mind, he's on the shortlist of the GOAT discussion, albeit the #5 guy on my list obviously because his career is still so young and he still has a long way to go

My list, btw: Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, Josh Gibson, Trout

Is there any scenario where the Giants can trade Shark and get that remaining money off the books?
Mark P
8:37
Samardzija has been good this year, which at least gets his trade value back on track.  But he is owed $18MM in 2020, plus whatever remains of his $18MM salary for this season, and he can block trades to all but eight teams.....it'll be tough for San Francisco to move him
Justin
8:37
What’s the Marlins deadline plans? Been a fan since I can remember but man it’s been so bad lately, wish there was some kind of light , can’t keep trading pieces away forever
Mark P
8:38
I feel for Marlins fans, it has to be tough.  It seems like a Twilight Zone twist --- "you'll win two World Series titles, but..."
8:39
The easy answer is that the Marlins are open for business on pretty much anyone with more than a year or two of service time.  Obviously veterans like Granderson, Castro, Walker, Prado, Romo, etc.
